You Can Learn How To Reverse The Effects Of Your Diabetes Now!

We Believe

We believe every diabetic should have the opportunity to have a say in their treatment, and to try a natural holistic approach to addressing their disease before they are given over to a lifetime of dangerous medications.

What We Offer

We find that all of the students who come to us for the purpose of learning diabetes self-care management and taking personal charge of reversing the effects of their type II diabetes have been able to do so; In fact, all of them have learned how to address their diabetes challenge and have lowered or eliminated their need for diabetic medications.

From their first day with us, they begin experiencing the reversal of the effects of the disease and in as little as two to three day’s many of them experience the joy of seeing their blood sugar beginning to normalize.

It doesn’t’ matter what the cause of our student’s diabetes is, whether it’s due to lack of insulin, its ineffectiveness when the body fails to use the insulin properly, or their body is not producing enough insulin.  So no matter what type of diabetes challenge our students face, they will be able to participate in the reversal process and experience a reduction or elimination of medications, by just following the dietetic changes we teach them.

“Maintaining a diet with more consumption of raw vegetables, five fruits a day, and plenty of water is highly recommended in beating diabetes naturally. Adding fiber to food consumption is good not only because it helps move the food out of the intestinal tract but also because their chromium content helps control the blood sugar level.” Roger Guzman, M.D.

We offer a safe and supportive environment, a place of learning where each student is taught, coached and encouraged, to take charge of their diabetes health challenge.  All of our regular, as well as our diabetic students, benefit from our detoxification/rebuild program which works hand in hand with their eating the most nourishing foods on the planet which are inclusive of Dr. Ann Wigmore’s living foods lifestyle, health, and wellness technologies.

Give Yourself Thirty Days

Students who have participated in the diabetes reversal program have been able to drastically lower or eliminate their diabetic medications within 30 days. Everyone deserves to take control of their health and enjoy the freedom from medications and the side effects associated with having to take any kind of diabetic medication.

With more than 5 million people taking insulin every day, the measure of success for a diabetic should be how little medication they need to control their blood sugar levels.  As the above quote indicates, many doctors because of excessive patient loads and not enough hours in the day, find it impossible not to prescribe potentially harmful medications, not having the time to help their patients implement health strategies and technologies that would lower or in most cases eliminate the need for diabetic medications. Many of our students have come to us and found they missed the warning signs associated with diabetes. There are six signs of uncontrolled blood sugar:

  1. Frequent Urination
  2. Blurry Vision
  3. Extreme Thirst
  4. Increased Hunger
  5. Un-warranted Fatigue
  6. Slow Wound Healing

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should immediately seek medical care. Once you have met with your doctor and have stabilized your blood sugar, this is the time to begin considering alternative health strategies, designed to strengthen your immune system and enable you to control your blood sugar with little or no medication.

Remember, if left unchecked, diabetes can lead to many other health complications, including amputation, cardiovascular disease, stroke, high blood pressure, kidney disease, blindness, nervous system disease, and death.

We hope this health update and management protocol will make a positive difference in your life or the life of someone you know. Please pass this information on to anyone who may benefit from knowing more about diabetes or who may want to attend the institute and work on reversing their diabetes.

Do not forget we are here to help and support you in learning how to take control of your health, no matter whether you are newly diagnosed or just needing to taking preventative measures.  If you would like to get more information about us or like to sign up to attend one of our retreats or participate in one of our programs, just fill out the contact form.

Super Healthy Smoothie Rescipe

SMOOTHIES

Super Health Restorer Smoothie Recipe

Make This Smoothie Work For You As It Cleanses, Detoxes, Rejuvenates And Rebuilds Your Body.

  • 2 cups of probiotic-enzymatic liquid
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 10 strawberries
  • 1 mango
  • 2 apples
  • 1 banana
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 ounce of wheatgrass

Power of Spinach – Spinach nutrition is amazing. The calcium content in spinach and the other dark leafy greens mentioned above strengthens bones.

The A and C vitamins in spinach plus the fiber, folic acid, magnesium and other nutrients help control cancer, especially colon, lung, and breast cancers. Folate also lowers the blood levels of something called homocysteine, a protein that damages arteries. So spinach also helps protect against heart disease. The flavonoids in spinach help protect against age-related memory loss. Spinach’s secret weapon, lutein, makes it one of the best foods in the world to prevent cataracts, as well as age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of preventable blindness in the elderly. Foods rich in lutein are also thought to help prevent cancer.

Power of Strawberries – Strawberries have higher levels of vitamin c, fiber, folate and potassium than most other fruits like bananas, apples and even oranges.

Apart from the obvious health benefits, a recent study by Dr. Gene Spiller, Nutrition, and Health Research Center has shown that eating one serving (about 8-10 strawberries) a day can significantly decrease blood pressure, which may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Other studies showed additional benefits: Strawberries are found to reduce the risk of cancer, enhance memory function and rheumatoid arthritis.

Power of Mangos – Mangos are super fruits! Succulent sweet tropical delights high in Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Potassium, Copper and Vitamin A.  According to a new research study, mango has been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. Several trial studies suggest that polyphenolic anti-oxidant compounds in mango are known to offer protection against breast and colon cancers, as well.

Power of Apples – French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones. Another study shows that children with asthma who drank apple juice on a daily basis suffered from less wheezing than children who did not drink apple juice on a regular basis.onth. Another study at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer’s disease.  When we eat apples we can lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. Studies have shown that people who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent.

Power of Apples & Cancer Prevention

Lung Cancer
According to a study of 10,000 people, those who ate the most apples had a 50 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer. Researchers believe this is due to the high levels of the flavonoids quercetin and naringin in apples.

Breast Cancer
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

Colon Cancer
One study found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 43 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Other research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Liver Cancer Prevention
Research has found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 57 percent lower risk of liver cancer.

Power of Lemons – Fresh lemons have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers. Lemons are also used as a weight loss aid as lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons contain many healthful substances–notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene–that promote immunity and fight infection. The most valuable ingredient of lemon, next to vitamin C, is citric acid, of which it contains 7.2 percent. Lemon contains more potassium than apples or grapes, which makes its juice beneficial to the heart.

Power of wheatgrass

  • Increases and sustains energy naturally
  • Detoxifies and cleanses your body
  • High alkalinity helps balance your body’s pH level
  • Strengthens your immune system
  • Insoluble fiber gently cleanses your digestive tract and promotes regularity
  • Complete food with enzymes and all essential amino acids
  • Natural source of antioxidants to help repair damaged cells
  • Excellent source of beta-carotene, folic acid, and vitamin C

Be sure to add this amazingly healthy smoothie to your weekly repertoire of different smoothie concoctions. Be sure to not have the raw spinach more than 3 days in a row. You can change out other greens on the alternate days.

Wishing you life health and happiness

Guests also use herbs and supplements. to enhance their ability to deal effectively with COPD. Some of the herbs and supplements our guests seem to find helpful are:

Herbs & Supplements
1. Comfrey leaves – help because they stimulate new cell growth and support quick healing. This makes it an excellent natural remedy for the lungs. It inhibits the cough reflex, softens and soothes damaged and inflamed bronchial mucus membranes. It helps to loosen mucus from the bronchial tubes so that it does not accumulate. You can buy comfrey leaf or root in various forms. Check with your Doctor before taking this herb.
2. Black tea – many COPD sufferers turn to tea for relief from tightening in the chest. Black tea contains chemicals related to the stimulant theophylline, which is also the basis of many modern medical remedies. Three or four cups of black tea can open airway passages and ease breathing.
3. Ginkgo – when used regularly the active ingredient has helped some patients to cut down on prescribed medication. Taken three times a day for a week or a month at a time. Ginkgo helps relax the lungs and keeps the breathing passage clear. Check with your Doctor before taking this herb.
4. Vitamin C and magnesium – improves lung function.
5. Pleurisy Root – possesses a specific action on the lungs, assisting expectoration, subduing inflammation and exerting a general mild tonic effect on the system, making it valuable in all chest complaints. It is of great use in pleurisy, mitigating the pain and relieving the difficulty of breathing, and is also recommended in pulmonary catarrh. The infusion may be prepared by taking 1 teaspoonful of the powder in a cupful of boiling water. The decoction is taken in doses of 2 to 3 fluid ounces. The dose of the fluid extract is 1/2 to 1 drachm; of Asclepin, 1 to 4 grains. A much-recommended herbal recipe is: Essence of composition powder, 1 OZ.; fluid extract of Pleurisy Root, 1 OZ. Mix and take a teaspoonful three or four times daily in warm water. Doctor before taking this herb.
6. Yerba Santa Holy Herb – medicines prepared with it or its extracts to treat bronchial and laryngeal problems. In addition, in combination with other herbs such as Grindelia robusta (good for Asthmatic bronchitis) yerba santa is also effective in curing insistent pulmonary infections, hay fever and asthma. There is no proven safe or effective dose for yerba santa in adults. Traditionally, 1-2 milliliters of fluid extract has been taken by mouth with a spoon every 3-4 hours for no more than ten days.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING SOMEONE SHOULD DO IF THEY HAVE CANCER?

SIMPLE – THEY SHOULD EAT A TOTALLY RAW ORGANIC LIVE FOOD DIET!
In my opinion, only raw organic living food has the enzymes, vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals intact.  If you want to get the nourishment you need to survive cancer eating organic raw live foods and only organic raw live foods, while you have cancer will provide your body with the energy it needs to create clean healthy cells, destroy the cancer cells and replace them with new healthy cells.  I believe you can push cancer into remission, ultimately destroy it and live a cancer free life.

Eating only organic raw fruits, vegetables, fermented food, nuts, seed and sprouted grains will give you the best chance of not only surviving the cancer, but will also enable you to strengthen your immune system and put a stop to any other sicknesses or diseases that may have gained ground in your body.

When I say you need to eat a organic raw living food diet it mean just that. That  means you must completely stop doing what you have been doing and to not eat any cooked food – Zero-Zilch-Nada – NOTHING COOKED!

Destroying cancer cells is serious business and if you are going to survive and have a healthy long life, you must be able to stop eating cooked foods and do what other people will not do! Think about it… Chemotherapy, radiation, hospitals, drugs, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, body aches, baldness, absolute exhaustion, immune system torn own, being sick every day, financial ruin, etc. OR choose to simply eat organic living foods that provide your body with everything it needs to heal itself.

All of our guests at Creative Health Institute (CHI) eat only 100% organic, nutrient dense, raw living foods which are properly combined and easily assimilated. Dead food is never served and because we adhere to the living food principal taught by Dr. Ann Wigmore we always make sure that every meal is enriched with sprouted foods.

If you or a loved one is suffering from any disease, or sickness consider going on a 100% raw organic living food diet, until the sickness or disease has be alleviated. I spend time with 100’s of sick people every month and with most I see what many people would consider miracles as these individuals take charge of their own health and bring about their own healings, by simply using raw organic living foods as the basis for their turnarounds.

Since 1973 Creative Health Institute has taught more then 19,000 people how to take charge of their health and to overcome sickness and disease through by living a raw food lifestyle.

Wishing everyone the greatest of health and happiness,

Healing Disease – Creative Health Institute (CHI) Approved Video Interview

Dr. Gary Tunsky, Healing Disease- Part 1

http://youtu.be/rbkz9dPOftM

My Toughts About Cellular Malfunction

Here is something to think about… Could all diseases and sicknesses be based in cellular malfunction? I have listed 10 reasons that I feel lend some credence to this train of thought.

Dr Ann Wigmore taught us that all disease is based in deficiency and toxicity. If this is true then it makes sense the first thing to suffer the effects of deficiency and toxicity would be our cells. What do you think; Could the detox rebuild program that we do here at Creative Health Institute (CHI) that includes wheat grass, living foods, rejuvelac, fermented foods, pure alkaline water, fresh clean air, proper rest at the right time, exercise and a positive-loving mental attitude change how a cell replicates and presents itself in our bodies?

1. There are 243 different types of cells that come in all shapes and sizes.
2. They are the bricks and mortar from which all living tissue and organs and systems are made.
3. Your body (tissue, organs and systems) is made up of more than 75 trillion of these cells.
4. You (spirit-brain) is given sole responsibility for every one of these 75 trillion plus cells health and welfare.
5. You have the greatest of responsibilities, as only you can guarantee the health and safety of every cell.
6. When you take charge of the situation, by providing proper guidance and direction every cell will answer to your commands.
7. Every second 10’s of millions of cells are reborn, creating amino acids, vitamins, hormones, neurotransmitters, enzymes and adenosinetriphosphate (ATP – cellular energy), all await your direction.
8. An almost endless army of cellular workers along with the bricks and mortar you will ever need to self generate a healthy body are under your command.
9. So, a strong healthy body can only originate at the cellular level and must be given the proper information and substance to do so.
10. So, a sick and diseased body can only originate at the cellular level and must be given improper information and harmful substance to do so.

Wishing you and your family the best year ever.

Thirty Days of Juice! Day 13

Cucumber Melon Lift

Makes one large or two small glasses

Ingredients:

  • 2 cucumbers
  • 1/2 honeydew
  • 1 cup alfalfa sprouts

Directions:

  • Wash cucumbers and peel melon. Chop  into chunks.
  • Feed all ingredients through the blender.
  • Serve over ice and garnish with a slice of cucumber.

Health Tip: The silica in cucumber is an essential component of healthy connective tissue, which includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bone. Cucumber juice is often recommended as a source of silica to improve the complexion and health of the skin, plus cucumber’s high water content makes it naturally hydrating—a must for glowing skin. Cucumbers are also used topically for various types of skin problems, including swelling under the eyes and sunburn. Two compounds in cucumbers, ascorbic acid and caffeic acid, prevent water retention, which may explain why cucumbers applied topically are often helpful for swollen eyes, burns and dermatitis.

Best Juice Day Ever!

What Are Normal Blood Sugar Levels

Normal blood sugar level range between 80 and 120. A dangerous blood sugar level can mean it is too high or to low. Creative Health Institute does not treat or diagnosis diabetes. After you have been diagnosed diabetes type 2, we can teach you how to work on reversing it and bringing your blood sugar levels into the normal range, usually within 21 days.  Whether you have diabetes or not you should consult your doctor if you  are experiencing symptoms of abnormal blood sugar, or feel that its  not within the normal range.  So consult with your doctor, then you can make an informed decision as to where to go from there.

Some symptoms of abnormal blood sugar levels

  • The first symptom of diabetes is often excessive thirst (unrelated to exercise, hot weather, or short-term illness)
  • Excessive hunger (you know you’ve eaten “enough” but are still hungry all the time)
  • Frequent urination (often noticed because you must wake up repeatedly during the night)
  • Tiredness and fatigue (possibly severe enough to make you fall asleep unexpectedly after meals), one of the most common symptoms of diabetes.

While many of the signs and symptoms of diabetes can also be related to other causes, testing for diabetes is very easy, and the constant/regular presence of one or more of these symptoms over an extended period of time should be checked by a physician.

If diabetes is suspected, tested for, and diagnosed when those symptoms first start appearing, other more serious symptoms of advanced diabetes can often be prevented or have their onset significantly delayed through diet, exercise and proper blood sugar management.

However, often the ‘minor’ symptoms of diabetes go unrecognized, and physical and neurological problems may arise, resulting in some of the following symptoms:

  • Blurred vision(diabetes can lead to macular degeneration and eventual blindness)
  • Numbness and/or tingling in the hands and feet.  (symptoms of diabetes which causes nerve damage in the extremities)
  • Slow healing of minor scratches and wounds (diabetes often leads to impaired immune system function)
  • Recurrent or hard-to-treat yeast infections in women (another sign of impaired immune function)
  • Dry or itchy skin (peripheral neuropathy also affects circulation and proper sweat gland function)

If you or someone you know are experiencing these symptoms an appointment with a physician should be made as soon as possible.

Latest Study Shows Caffeine Has A Negative Affect On Blood Sugar Levels

Caffeine Raises Blood Sugar Levels In Type 2 Diabetics

It may come as quite a shock to those type 2 diabetics who regularly consume caffeine to hear that studies are now showing that caffeine raises blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetics.

I’m a regular diet coke drinker and I thought that because there is no sugar in diet coke it was safe for me to drink regularly…I was wrong.

The American Diabetes Association announced the findings of a Duke University study which showed that caffeine raised the blood glucose levels of type 2 diabetics throughout the day and especially after meals.

Previous studies on the link between caffeine and diabetes had shown that caffeine consumption lowered the risk of type 2 diabetes. Those who drank the most caffeine were the least likely to develop type 2 diabetes. It was these finding that has led many people to believe that caffeine had no ill effect on diabetics, in-fact it was helpful in lowering blood sugar.

What the Duke University study is now showing is that in people who have type 2 diabetes, caffeine raised their blood sugar levels throughout the day. So even if they drank caffeine in the morning it had an effect on their blood sugar level throughout the entire day making it difficult to keep it under control.

So what is suggested? Well, if you are a type 2 diabetic  and you are finding it difficult to keep your blood glucose levels in the normal range you may want to examine the amount of caffeine you are consuming.

Now that studies have shown caffeine raises blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetics  you may want to monitor the amount of caffeine that you consume, including soft drinks, tea, etc.

Think about how you can replace your caffeine jolt with healthy alternatives. Contact us here at Creative Health Institute and we will be glad to share some ideas which will help you balance your blood sugar levels and balance your life.

Wishing all of our friends the best day ever.

What Is Type 2 Diabetes

With Type 2 diabetes your body might be producing too little insulin, or it might not be reacting to the insulin correctly. Either way, the end result is that glucose builds up in the bloodstream instead of going into the cells. Left untreated, high blood sugar can cause serious long-term health problems.

Type 2 diabetes usually appears later in life, often between the ages of 35-45 years. As it often develops slowly, many people may not recognise the symptoms, and may have diabetes without knowing it.

If you have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you are one of the lucky ones. Many people have diabetes without knowing it, and are at much greater risk of long term medical complications.

Finding out you have diabetes can be upsetting, but it should not prevent you from living a long and happy life. You may need to make a few changes in your lifestyle, but these changes are also good advice for non-diabetics, so probably a good idea anyway.

15 Food Combining Guidelines

Food Combining Guidelines

  1. Avoid eating carbohydrates, starches, sugar or sweet fruits with acid fruits.  Too many times we mix: (strawberries and bananas) (cereal with strawberries) (pineapple upside down cake).
  2. Avoid eating concentrated proteins with concentrated carbohydrates.  (meat and potatoes)
  3. Do not consume two concentrated proteins at the same meal. (meat and cheese*) (nuts and cheese) (shrimp and steak) (avocado and nuts)
  4. Do not consume fats with proteins. (cheese* and meat again)
  5. Use fats sparingly.  Beware of many items in the store that say “no fat” in their sales pitch.  They wouldn’t contain fat anyway. (animal fats, dairy products, palm oil, cottonseed oil and coconut)
  6. Do not eat acid fruits with proteins.  Some lemon juice is fine on proteins.  Avocados combine well with acid fruit, sub-acid fruit and greens. (pineapple and ham) (tomatoes, meat, noodles – goulash, spaghetti)
  7. Do not combine sweet fruits with proteins, starches or acid fruits, a common dessert mistake. (bananas on cereals) (strawberries and bananas) (dried fruit dehydrates the stomach).
  8. Eat only one concentrated starch at a meal (potatoes, corn, pumpkin, etc.).
  9. Acid fruits may be used with sub-acid fruits.  Don’t combine fruits opposite ends; combine at mid-ground.
  10. Sub-acid fruits may be used with sweet fruit.
  11. Combine fruit only with lettuce and celery.  Lettuce and celery may even enhance fruit digestion.
  12. Salads combine very well with proteins, oil and starches.  Greens should make up a majority of our diet.  They leave the stomach quickly unless weighed down by oily dressings.
  13. Sprouts are great.  The best way to eat grains: referring back to #12, salads go well with starches or grains, so sprouts are great with salad.
  14. Do not consume melons with any other foods.  They move through the stomach in 20 minutes.  If melons don’t agree with you, try them alone.
  15. Liquids should not be used at any meal.  Dilutes your digestive juices / Prevents us from chewing / Prevents us from secreting saliva.

A Brief History Of Wheatgrass

“Wheatgrass juice is the nectar of rejuvenation, the plasma of youth, the blood of all life. The elements that are missing in our body’s cells – especially enzymes, vitamins, hormones, and nucleic acids can be obtained through this daily green sunlight transfusion”. Viktoras Kulvinskas, Author of Survival into the Twenty First Century

Throughout the history of wheatgrass, it has been recognized for its beneficial health effects.  Mankind has always known that livestock showed improved health and vigor when they feed on the young grasses of early spring.  Herdsmen have moved their livestock across every continent in search of the best grass for the their animals.

Today, grass is the world’s most widespread form of vegetation. There are over 9,000 species of grass found across the planet, covering more than 25% of all earths land mass. You will find grass wherever there is sun, water and soil. Grass has truly become recognized as the staff of life with four of the world’s top five crops being grains/grasses.

The use of wheatgrass can be traced back more than six thousand years, to ancient early Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations.

Five thousand years ago, Egyptians were using wheatgrass for health purposes. The Priests, Pharaohs and powerful members of ancient Egyptian society used wheatgrass on a regular basis, believing that it improved their health.

Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Babylonian Empire, and builder of the Hanging Gardens reigned  from 605 BC – 562 BC.,  reportedly restricted his diet to grasses and attributed the health benefits of this magnificent chlorophyll rich plant to the improvement of his physical and mental health.

Almost two thousand years ago, during the first century A.D., we find a Jewish sect known as the Essene’s using wheatgrass as a healing food.  From their holy book The Gospel of Peace, translated by Edmund Bordeaux Szekely, we read:

We may eat also of the tender blades of grass that the strength of the Earthly Mother may enter into us. But chew well the blades, for the Son of Man has teeth unlike those of beasts, and only when we chew well the blades of grass can the Angel of Water enter our blood and give us strength. Eat, then, Sons of Light, of this most perfect herb from the table of our Earthly Mother, that your days may be long upon the earth, for such finds favor in the eyes of God.”

Welcome to Wheatgrass Science in The 20th Century

In 1915 Dr. Richard Willstätter’s pioneering work on natural products; especially chlorophyll was honored with the 1915 Nobel Prize in chemistry. His founding of  the healthful link between the chlorophyll in plants and the hemoglobin in our blood, was the start of  scientific research into how close the composition of  chlorophyll and human blood are. He showed that chlorophyll molecules bonded in in a very similar way as  the iron molecule in hemoglobin.

Close to the time of  Dr. Willstätter’s work and discover of the wonder of chlorphyll,  in the laboratory, war had broken out across Europe and in the small county of Lithuania, a young girl named Ann Wigmore watched as her grandmother treated soldiers with it and later used wheatgrass to treat her own colon disease.

In the late 1920’s and early 1930’s scientists including Charles Francis Schnabel were studying grasses and green leafy vegetables and unlocking the nutritional mysteries. They tested all types of vegetable and meat based feeds and found that animals could did not only survive on grass but thrived on it, but, in contrast, their health failed when they were fed other healthy vegetables, including green leafy vegetables.

In 1931 Charles Francis Schnabel an American school teacher and agricultural chemist who is kindly referred to as the “father of wheatgrass” discovered  that wheat and barley grasses reached their nutritional peak at or just prior to the commencement of the jointing stage. Being an agricultural chemist, the focus of his studies were based in developing feeds for livestock which would  help them recover more quickly from sickness, grow faster and increase fertility. His research proved to be the the most indepth study of its time proving the nutritional value of grasses and how the nutritonal values changed through different stages of the plant’s life.

Struck by the power of wheatgrass, Charles Schnabel started promoting his discoveries to feed mills, chemists and the food industry. Two large corporations that are still with us today (Quaker Oats and American Dairies) invested millions of dollars into funding further research.  Joined by others, such as biochemist George Kohler, his passion inspired a body of scientific research and much of his research finding served as the basis of Dr. Ann Wigmores devleopment of wheatgrass therapy.

The “Wheatgrass Juice Factor”

In the mid 1930s, at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. George Kohler and his colleagues were studying the differences in the nutritional value of cow’s milk produced at different seasons of the year. Although they thrived on summer milk, experimental rats and guinea pigs failed to grow and eventually became sick and died when fed winter milk. The higher nutritional value of the summer milk was found to be due to the grasses eaten by the cows in the spring and summer. Thus began research on the “Grass Juice Factor”, a water soluble extract of grass juice which was responsible for this growth effect.

Most of the individual vitamins that we know about today, were identified during the 1930s by scientists working to identify all the nutritional factors necessary for growth and reproduction in humans and domestic animals.

Scientist were amazed to find that when they added green chlorophyll rich foods to the diets of test animals, the growth and health effects of cereal grass and the “Grass Juice Factor” were far our stripping any other type of supplementation. By the late 1930s, dehydrated and dried cereal grasses were available in several forms for use as a human and animal food supplements.

After many years of research and testing, the scientists at the  University of Wisconsin determine the highest levels of  the  “Grass Juice Factor”, was found in cereal grass (wheatgrass), young white clover, peas, and cabbage.

At the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Mott Cannon and his colleagues found that guinea pigs failed rapidly when fed a stock ration plus high levels of all the then-known nutrients. When the researchers added standard food supplements such as liver extracts, wheat germ, and brewer’s yeast to the animals’ diets, the guinea pigs remained sick and often died. Addition of grass or grass juice brought about dramatic recovery and restimulated growth in these animals.

In 1935, Danish researchers discovered vitamin K, the “koagulation vitamin”. Because this nutrient was difficult to isolate in large quantities, cereal grasses were used in lieu of purified vitamin K—both for research and for medical therapy.

In 1938 Folic acid was identified, being named after the green leaves, or foliage, which proved to be its richest source. Scientists knew they were on to something as they observed the health and growth benefits that the known vitamins and minerals in the  cereal grasses provided.  Other benefits, however, could not be attributed to known nutrients.

In the early 1940’s, Dr. Charles Kettering (former chairman of the board of General Motors) donated money for the study of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll was studied intensively by medical doctors (there are currently over 40 articles written up in medical journals about the healing effects of chlorophyll.) These medical doctors found that chlorophyll was a great healer.

In 1940, in the American Journal of Surgery,  Benjamin Cruskin, M.D., recommends chlorophyll for its antiseptic benefits. The article suggests the following clinical uses for chlorophyll:

“To clear up foul-smelling odours, neutralize strep infections, heal wounds, hasten skin grafting, cure chronic sinusitis, overcome ear inflammation and infections, reduce varicose veins and heal leg ulcers, eliminate impetigo and other scabby eruptions, heal rectal sores, successfully treat inflammation of the uterine cervix, get rid of parasitic vaginal infections, reduce typhoid fever, and cure advanced pyorrhea in many cases”.

Through the 1940s and 1950s, scientist continued to research the potential of cereal grasses and their effect on humans and animals. Expanded research led to their finding that cereal grass was shown to contain factors which support the growth of lactobacilli and other beneficial intestinal bacteria, block the development of scurvy, stop the formation of histamine induced and peptic ulcers.

Other Unidentified Health Factors in Cereal Grasses

By 1950, all the nutrients now considered essential to the human diet (with the exception of selenium) had been identified. But researchers continued to describe green food “factors” which could not be correlated with any known nutrient.

I see a world without sickness…a world in complete harmony and in perfect physical, mental, and spiritual balance by following nature’s laws of cause and effect. – Ann Wigmore

In the late 1950’s early 1960’s Ann Wigmore “re-discovered” wheatgrass and was able to cure her own ‘untreatable’ colon cancer. She also had been a terrible accident which had crushed her legs, gangrene set in and the doctors wanted to amputate her legs. Ann had made friends with Dr. Earp Thomas, who believed that wheatgrass was one of the most powerful healing foods known to man. Dr. Thomas found that an ounce of wheatgrass in a gallon of fluoridated water would turn the fluorine into harmless calcium-phosphate-fluoride compound. Used in wash water it adds softness to the face and hands. It stops bleeding, eases itching, and helps in wound healing . Dr. Thomas further discovered that fruits and vegetables contaminated by sprays were thoroughly cleaned and the negative food transformed by wash water with a wisp of wheatgrass placed in the water.

As Ann spent untold hours with her mentor, Dr. Thomas and as she learned more and more about the medicinal effects of grass, she decided to heal herself of her disease and her injuries. She began drinking fresh wheatgrass and eating natural raw living foods. She shared wheatgrass with several sick friends and along with her, each recovered from their sickness.

Drinking wheatgrass should not be considered a one-stop cure all. Although wheatgrass has helped hundreds of thousands of people recover from serious illness, it is neither a drug nor a magic bullet. Here at Creative Health Institute, (CHI) wheatgrass  is grown on the premises and serves as one of our nutritional cornerstones in our full body detoxification and rebuilding health process.  We believe that when our guests take in substantial quanities of wheatgrass along with raw living foods and take the time address their lifestyle physically, spiritually and  their mental and emotional state they can create an immune system that will not be as greatly affected by illness We invite you to join us on the wonderful journey of health and happiness.

Love & blessings,

Bobby

Millions Die Due to Withheld Medical Treatment

This post is by Dr. Mark Hyman, MD.
Dr. Hyman’s insight into the world of conventional medicine and how it affects our lives is amazing. I hope you will take the time to read all of it. Wishing you the greatest of health and blessings.
Bobby
Imagine we found the cure for heart disease or diabetes, but as a society chose to withhold that treatment from those who need it most. Would it be ethical to withhold effective treatments when the result is unnecessary suffering and death that costs our health care system hundreds of billions of dollars a year?

The answer is obvious, yet that is exactly what occurs today in America. We know the most effective treatments for some of the deadliest diseases of our time, but millions are denied access to them. In effect, we are conducting a large experiment on our population without their consent. This happened in America once before. It is a dark stain on our scientific history that most of us would rather forget. It was the Tuskegee experiment.

Tuskegee: Human Experimentation Without Consent

From 1932 to 1972 scientists from the US Public Health Service conducted the Tuskegee syphilis study on 399 impoverished African American sharecroppers from Tuskegee, Alabama without their consent. They withheld a known effective treatment for syphilis–namely penicillin–in order to observe what happened over time to those with untreated syphilis. Scientists wondered how the disease affected the body and mind, so they drew blood from these men and monitored their progress but did nothing to stop the progression of the illness even though they knew they could cure it and prevent horrid disability with a few simple shots of penicillin.

Right now we are in the midst of a similar experiment, but few know about it. The tragedy of this experiment happened in my own family. My stepfather, who had diabetes and heart disease, was a victim of our modern Tuskegee experiment. He ultimately died last year as a result, and cost our health care system $400,000 along the way. If he were simply provided the choice of a different treatment–a treatment that is proven to be more effective and cost less than medication and surgery–namely a program for sustainable and comprehensive lifestyle change, perhaps he would still be alive and our national debt would be reduced by $400,000.

My stepfather was diabetic. He had the best medical, pharmaceutical, and surgical care available. Nonetheless, he suffered from very poor health and functioning. He went to the emergency room with chest pain and was treated with a cardiac bypass operation, even though evidence has shown no reduced mortality for cardiac bypass or angioplasty in diabetics.(i) Not providing effective treatment is one thing, but providing harmful, costly, and ineffective treatment like this is unethical.

Physicians do what they know (often as a result of training in a medical educational system dominated by Big Pharma) and what is paid for by insurance. Having a cardiac bypass after experiencing chest pain isn’t the best treatment option for diabetics, but it is what is paid for by insurance. After the bypass post-operative infection of his sternum with MRSA (an antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria) lead to a month in the intensive care unit, plastic surgery to repair the chest defect, and “mini-strokes” following bypass surgery which led to memory loss or “pre-dementia”,(ii) and a protracted recovery from hospitalization requiring months of home care.

The surgery and subsequent medical therapy with blood pressure medication, cholesterol-lowering medication, and blood thinners did not enhance the quality of his health and life. In fact, he continued to be sedentary, craved sugars and refined carbohydrates, and rapidly declined physically and mentally.

My stepfather was not offered a treatment that exists today, would have cost less than 2 percent of the $400,000 his care cost, and would have likely created an infinitely enhanced quality of life. It should be our right to have access to proven treatments that provide better value for the individual and for the health care system. This shift must be made if we are going to significantly impact our chronic disease epidemic and the frightening convergence of the GDP and health care cost curves.

How is our modern Tuskegee experiment happening today? How did this happen to my stepfather? What treatment was he denied that may have saved his life? Let me explain.

Treatments We are Denied by Conventional Medicine

Overwhelming evidence proves that the most effective prevention and treatment for chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes is what we eat, how much we exercise, how we handle stress, and our social connections. These factors are often referred to collectively as “lifestyle medicine.” Environmental toxins are also known to play a role in these epidemics but are less modifiable.

Lifestyle medicine is not just about preventing chronic diseases but also about treating them. It is often more effective and less expensive than relying exclusively on drugs and surgery. Nearly all the major medical societies recently joined in publishing a review of the scientific evidence for lifestyle medicine both for the prevention and TREATMENT of chronic disease. That report is called the ACPM Lifestyle Initiative, and I encourage you to read it. It concluded there is strong evidence that a lifestyle-based approach to chronic disease often works better than medication or surgery and saves money.

Taken collectively, the evidence is actually overwhelming. Lifestyle intervention is often more effective in reducing cardiovascular disease, hypertension, heart failure, stroke, cancer, diabetes and all cause mortality than almost any other medical intervention.(iii) This data in conjunction with a number of extraordinary recent research papers that call into question the very foundations of our current approach–treating risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high blood sugar to prevent heart disease and diabetes–forces us to rethink our whole approach to medicine. These studies showed that lowering blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol in pre-diabetics with medication didn’t reduce the risk of heart attacks or death and created unnecessary side effects.(iv),(v),(vi),(vii)

We’re targeting the wrong things–we need to treat the cause, not the effects. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar are NOT the cause of heart disease or diabetes. The real culprit is what we eat, how much we exercise, stress, and environmental toxins. Our lifestyle and environment influences the fundamental biological mechanisms that lead to disease: Changes in gene expression, which modulate inflammation, oxidative stress, and metabolic dysfunction. Treating risk factors is like blowing away the smoke while the fire rages on. Lifestyle medicine puts out the fire.

Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t usually pay for it. No one profits from lifestyle medicine, so it is not part of medical education or practice. It should be the foundation of our health care system, but doctors ignore it because doctors do what they get paid to do. They get paid to dispense medication and perform surgery. They also need to be paid to develop and conduct practice-based and community programs in sustainable lifestyle change such as those pioneered by Dr. Dean Ornish.

The new health care bill provides for community based wellness initiatives like these, and that’s a step in the right direction. The National Council on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health has begun to develop policies that will create a healthier nation. But what’s missing is insurance and Medicare reimbursement for treatments known to be effective for heart disease and diabetes–lifestyle-based therapies that are critical not just for prevention but also for the treatment and reversal of these modern epidemics. By not offering reimbursement for these treatments we have, in effect, begun the Tuskegee experiment of the 21st century.

The future of medical care must be to transform general lifestyle guidance–the mandates to eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise that many physicians try to provide to their patients–into individually-tailored lifestyle prescriptions for both the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. The only way this is going to happen is if doctors are paid to do it. Lifestyle is often the best medicine when applied correctly, and it is the only thing that will end our modern Tuskegee experiment.

To your good health,

Mark Hyman, MD

Fibromyalgia Raw Living Food Diet Tips

  • Avoid eating late in the evening.
  • Eat your evening meal not later than 6 p.m., and avoid eating anything else after that.
  • Avoid eating sweet fruit in the evening. Your evening meal should be composed of vegetables with either: avocado, olives, nuts or seeds. Eating fruit in the evening will disturb sleep, due to their (natural) sugar content.
  • Especially avoid eating acid fruits in the evening, such as oranges or pineapple. • Avoid eating fat during the day. This works for a lot of people.
  • The best time to eat fat is in the evening. During the day, prefer fruit and green vegetables for optimum digestion and energy.
  • Don’t feed your false appetite. We have to differentiate between hunger and appetite. Hunger is true physiological need, expressed by a strong desire for food. Appetite is false hunger, is very capricious, very demanding, and is never fully satisfied.
  • Exercise to create true hunger. Vigorous exercise is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. By exercising vigorously, we create true demand for food and prepare thus the ground for superior assimilation, upon which radiant health depends.
  • Limit the quantity of fat in your diet. Many raw-foodists go overboard on raw fat. Avocados, oils, olives, nuts and seeds should be a small part of your diet, as they can be a major cause of fatigue and lack of energy I recommend limiting fat consumption to as little as 10% of your calories. In a 2000-calorie diet, this would mean only 22gm of fat (since 1gm of fat contains 9 calories) per day. To put it in perspective, half a medium avocado contains that amount.
  • Eat only one type of fat per meal. Here are the different concentrated, fatty foods in the raw diet: Avocados, Oils (Olive, hemp, flax, etc.), Olives, Nuts (Almonds, pistachios, pecans, etc.), Seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, etc.)
  • These foods are all very satisfying, but also difficult to digest. That is why if you mix them with each other you will experience digestive difficulties and feeling tired. Eating only one type at a meal, is a good rule to follow. Have your salad plain or with a non fat dressing.
  • Eat simple foods. The raw food diet is simple unprocessed, unadulterated, whole, in its natural state. Eating foods that are simply uncooked is a step in that direction. The next step is to start eating mostly whole foods, simple fruits and vegetables, It’s perfectly alright to enjoy some gourmet raw food cuisine once in a while, but try not to make a habit out of it. Instead, go in the direction of simplicity. You will find that you will enjoy your food much more, finally tasting the subtle but complex flavors of natural foods. • Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables doesn’t mean eating many types of food in one meal, and not even in one day. It means varying your food choices over the course of the seasons. By varying your diet, you will not only make sure you get a full spectrum of nutrients, but also will avoid the harmful effects of making one food the center of your diet, which could have a few downsides you are not even aware of. It is also quite natural to eat with the seasons. Why eat melons in the winter? Melons are a summer food. In the winter, we eat apples, oranges, carrots, etc. So vary your diet and eat mostly what’s in season, without making a religion out of it.
  • Get support. It’s almost impossible to do this on your own. We need to be able to share our experiences with others. If you don’t know any other raw-foodist, found a support group or start your own potlucks. You will be surprised to know how many people are interested in the raw-food diet once you start your own potlucks. There are hundreds of people in most cities that are just waiting to meet other raw-foodists and share their experiences with them.
  • Avoid eating cold fruits and vegetables during the winter. Why freeze in the winter when you don’t have to? To avoid getting cold, submerge your fruits and vegetables in hot water for a few minutes before consuming them. And while we’re at it, drinking hot water is not forbidden on a raw-food diet. In fact, it will help you a lot to maintain your internal heat without resorting to cooked foods or stimulating hot baths and showers.

  14. Skullcap and valerian root improve sleep.
  15. Siberian ginseng is an energizing herb that can help resolve the fatigue associated with fibromyalgia. Choose a standardized extract containing 0.5 percent eleutheroside E and take 100 milligrams twice daily, one-half hour before breakfast and lunch. After two weeks, you can gradually increase the dosage as needed. After six weeks, take one week off, then take the herb for another six weeks.
  16. St. John’s wort is a natural antidepressant and influences the adrenal gland hormones to help relieve stress. St. John’s wort affects nerves and is effective for sharp, shooting nerve pains. It also has antiviral properties. (Caution: Do not take if you are taking conventional antidepressants.) Choose a standardized extract containing 0.3 percent hypericin and take 300 milligrams three times daily
  17. . Teas brewed from burdock root, dandelion, and red clover promote healing by cleansing the bloodstream and enhancing immune function. Combine or alternate these herbal teas, and drink 4 to 6 cups daily.
  18. Pine-bark and grape-seed extracts are natural anti-inflammatories that help to ease pain. Take 50 milligrams of either two to three times daily.
  19. Turmeric helps to reduce pain and inflammation. Take 400 to 500 milligrams three times daily.
  20. Willow bark has anti-inflammatory properties and works as a painkiller.

Morbidity and Mortality

Deaths

Diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death listed on U.S. death certificates in 2006. This ranking is based on the 72,507 death certificates in 2006 in which diabetes was listed as the underlying cause of death. According to death certificate reports, diabetes contributed to a total of 233,619 deaths in 2005, the latest year for which data on contributing causes of death are available.

Researchers Blame The Standard American Diet!

Diabetes is now at epidemic proportions in the US and it is getting worse every year. Most researchers blame the Standard American Diet (SAD) and a lack of exercise for this disease and believe the only way to stop this monster from terrorizing humanity is to re-educate and change the American peoples eating habits. In the past 10 years this epidemic had taken 100’s of thousands of lives and cost billions of dollars, it really is that bad and many people are ignorant of it until it is too late.
Because of the severity of this epidemic, Creative Health Institute (CHI) has stepped up and implemented a program that addresses the diabetes epidemic with our living foods diet and exercise. Together they have proven to be the critical elements in controlling this disease. We work shoulder to shoulder, almost on a weekly basis, helping our students reverse their diabetes.

By 2050, an estimated 48 million Americans will have type II diabetes as the epidemic continues unabated, according to new federal projections. We believe this epidemic can be turned around. Let your friends with diabetes know there is an alternative.
