Seven Emotional Benefits of Meditation

  1. Almost any form of meditation will help reduce stress. Meditation has been shown to also reduce symptoms in people with medical conditions triggered by stress.
  2. Meditating will make you feel naturally high. Much like the natural high a runner experiences. You will not be needing any kind of substance or chemical to feel good about yourself or to experience a feeling of being high.
  3. Researchers have found that meditation increases resilience , and give the practicer a feeling of increased life satisfaction. They note resilience “can be seen as an important source of subjective well-being.”
  4. Meditation creates a feeling of peace and harmony with ourselves and others. And, eliminates or reduces the flight of fight feelings than many people experience when they become anxious.
  5. Feeling at peace with oneself is of the utmost importance for us to feel internally satisfied with who we are and how whether we feel satisfied with ourselves and the world around us.
  6. Meditation softens our hearts and spurs us on to higher levels of consciousness. We find that we become more loving and our relationships are more harmonious and fulfilling.
  7. Pessimism fades and optimism increases as we meditate. Our views of our fellow humans reflect our optimism as we become more understanding and accepting of opinions and less focused on our differences.

Take your time and be gentle towards yourself. Though I have been trained in several different forms of meditation I have found that simply focusing on your breath as you breath in and out is a great place to start.

When I do this type of meditation I make sure I’m comfortable , for me that is sitting with my back straight and my hands in my lap with my palms up. Once I’m comfortable I simply mentally count to four, then count backward from four, doing this in conjunction with each breath.

Here are the steps:

  • Breath in – count one
  • Breath out – count two
  • Breath in – count three
  • Breath out – count forth
  • Breath in – count three
  • Breath out – count two
  • Breath in – count one
  • Breath out – count two

Repeat the process. Try to slowly build up your time meditating so that you are comfortable in meditation for 20-30 minutes twice a day.

Wishing you all to have the best time meditating and may the peace of God rest upon each of you. Blessings, Bobby
