Sauerkraut is an immune system booster
Packed with enzymes, vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals, sauerkraut has a wonderful effect on the immune system and has been used as an immune booster for centuries.  Sauerkraut contains, lactic acid bacteria and photochemical which are created and enhanced during the fermentation process. These naturally occurring, beneficial by-products of sauerkraut help boost the immune system which leads to a decrease in a number of health problems. The common cold, skin problems, weight gain, and tainted blood are all fixed by a healthy functioning immune system.

Sauerkraut is a cancer fighter
Sauerkraut’  is a superfood, with the ability to inhibit and even destroy cancer cells.  Studies published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry concluded that sauerkraut is a cancer inhibitor. The study discovered that the fermentation of cabbage produced a substance called isothiocyanate, which prevents cancer growth, particularly in the breast, colon, lung, and liver.  The University of New Mexico published a study linking sauerkraut consumption by adolescent females to a reduced risk for breast cancer earlier studies indicate sauerkraut may reduce the risk for other forms of cancer including lung, colon, prostate, and liver

“We are finding that fermented cabbage to be healthier than raw or cooked cabbage, especially for fighting cancer”, says Eeva-Liisa Ryhanen, Ph.D., research manager of MTT Agrifood Research Finland, located in Jokioinen, Finland. A recent study by the American Center for Cancer Research has found that sauerkraut has a profound effect on preventing and healing breast cancer. Based on reports that breast cancer rates amongst polish women in the United States were much higher than those in Poland researchers set out to find out why. Their answer; the women who still lived in Poland ate significantly larger amounts of sauerkraut especially important while they were in adolescence. The research found that the women who immigrated Americanized’ their diets and stopped eating as much of the superfood that is sauerkraut thus increasing their rates of breast cancer.

Digestive Aid
Eating sauerkraut is a great way to protect the balance of bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. Sauerkraut is one of the few foods that contain the bacterium Lactobacilli Plantarum. L. Plantarum is a very dominant strain of healthful bacteria which helps your digestive system in the following ways: boost the immune system by increasing antibodies that fight infectious disease help inhibit pathogenic organisms including E.coli, salmonella and unhealthy overgrowth of candida (yeast) create antioxidants (glutathione and superoxide dismutase) that scavenge free radicals which are a cancer precursor transforms hard-to-digest lactose from milk to the more easily digested lactic acid. It neutralizes the anti-nutrients found in many foods including the phytic acid found in all grains and the trypsin-inhibitors in soy generates new nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, digestive aids, and the trace mineral GTF chromium. These various properties are the best scientific reasons given for what has been known by loyal users for millennia, sauerkraut cures an upset stomach and is the best natural physic there is. With the spread of Avian Flu spreading across the globe,  Korean scientist, Kang Sa-Ouk of Seoul National University, took 13 chickens infected with the avian flu virus and fed them Kim Chi extract.  11 of the birds recovered. It appears that the vital bacteria are created during the fermenting process and this gives the Kim Chi (Kraut)  its health-boosting qualities.

  •  1 green cabbage
  • 1 purple cabbage
  • 6 carrots
  • 1 sweet red onion
  • 1 tablespoon  lemon juice or rejuvelac
  • Optional Seasonings to taste (garlic, cayenne, herbs, caraway seeds) – optional

Finely chop cabbage, saving outside leaves. Chop carrots and onion. Place vegetables into a large bowl or crock-pot. Mix in optional seasonings. Cover the top outside with cabbage leaves. Place large plate and weight on top (we use a large stone). Press down to remove air from Kraut. Leave at room temperature for 3 days or until it is sour enough for your taste. Place the Kraut in a glass jar with a lid and refrigerate. It will keep up to for several weeks. Eat a ½ cup serving a day with meals and enjoy the wonderful flavor and nutritional benefits of this wonderful food! Another zero fat, healthy bacteria, non-fruit recipe to give you amazing health!

Several trial studies suggest that polyphenolic anti-oxidant compounds in mango are known to offer protection against breast and colon cancers, as well.

Power of Apples – French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones. Another study shows that children with asthma who drank apple juice on a daily basis suffered from less wheezing than children who did not drink apple juice on a regular basis.onth. Another study at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer’s disease.  When we eat apples we can lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. Studies have shown that people who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent.

Power of Apples & Cancer Prevention

Lung Cancer
According to a study of 10,000 people, those who ate the most apples had a 50 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer. Researchers believe this is due to the high levels of the flavonoids quercetin and naringin in apples.

Breast Cancer
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

Colon Cancer
One study found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 43 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Other research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Liver Cancer Prevention
Research has found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 57 percent lower risk of liver cancer.

Lose Up To A Pound A Day – The CHI Way By Just Eating An Alkaline Balanced Diet?

 

Believe it or not there is a good side to having a high percentage of body fat, as it plays a major role in extending lives because it provides the first line of defense from the acid wastes that go hand-in-hand with the Standard American Diet (SAD).

When we eat the SAD, we consume vast amounts of acid-based foods.  These acidic foods cause acidic waste, so our body’s first line of defense is to use the body’s optimal amount of fat cells to store the toxins. Creative Health Institutes Teaching On COPD Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Causes of COPD
The primary causes of COPD is long term cigarette smoking, the more years you smoke and the more packs you smoke, the greater your risk. Symptoms of COPD usually appear about 10 years after you start smoking, but other irritants can cause COPD including second hand smoke, occupational dust, vapors, hazardous fumes, asbestos as well as air pollution have all been shown to be contributing factors. In very rare cases, COPD results from a genetic disorder that causes low levels of a protein called alpha-1-antitrypsin.

Early Warning Signs
Early warning signs of COPD are unique to each person and you may not even realize that you are having trouble breathing. Therefore we have put together some signs to watch for. If you find that you have any of these symptoms you may want to talk to your doctor since a change, combination or increase in the symptoms I have listed may be an early warning sign of COPD.

Are You Experiencing One Or More Of The Following:
1. An increase in the amount of sputum produced (Sputum: The mucus and other matter brought up from the lungs, bronchi, and trachea that one may cough up and spit out or swallow)
2. An increase in the thickness or stickiness of sputum
3. A change in sputum color to yellow or green or the presence of blood in the sputum
4. An increase in the severity of shortness of breath, cough and/or wheezing
5. Using more pillows or sleeping in a chair instead of a bed to avoid shortness of breath
6. A general feeling of ill health
7. Ankle swelling
8. Forgetfulness, confusion, slurring of speech and sleepiness
9. Increasing morning headaches, dizzy spells, restlessness
10. Trouble sleeping
11. An unexplained increase or decrease in weight
12. Increased feeling of fatigue and lack of energy that is persistent
13. A lack of sexual drive

Herbs & Supplements
1. Comfrey leaves – help because they stimulate new cell growth and support quick healing. This makes it an excellent natural remedy for the lungs. It inhibits the cough reflex, softens and soothes damaged and inflamed bronchial mucus membranes. It helps to loosen mucus from the bronchial tubes so that it does not accumulate. You can buy comfrey leaf or root in various forms. Check with your Doctor before taking this herb.
2. Black tea – many COPD sufferers turn to tea for relief from tightening in the chest. Black tea contains chemicals related to the stimulant theophylline, which is also the basis of many modern medical remedies. Three or four cups of black tea can open airway passages and ease breathing.
3. Ginkgo – when used regularly the active ingredient has helped some patients to cut down on prescribed medication. Taken three times a day for a week or a month at a time. Ginkgo helps relax the lungs and keeps the breathing passage clear. Check with your Doctor before taking this herb.
4. Vitamin C and magnesium – improves lung function.
5. Pleurisy Root – possesses a specific action on the lungs, assisting expectoration, subduing inflammation and exerting a general mild tonic effect on the system, making it valuable in all chest complaints. It is of great use in pleurisy, mitigating the pain and relieving the difficulty of breathing, and is also recommended in pulmonary catarrh. The infusion may be prepared by taking 1 teaspoonful of the powder in a cupful of boiling water. The decoction is taken in doses of 2 to 3 fluid ounces. The dose of the fluid extract is 1/2 to 1 drachm; of Asclepin, 1 to 4 grains. A much-recommended herbal recipe is: Essence of composition powder, 1 OZ.; fluid extract of Pleurisy Root, 1 OZ. Mix and take a teaspoonful three or four times daily in warm water. Doctor before taking this herb.
6. Yerba Santa Holy Herb – medicines prepared with it or its extracts to treat bronchial and laryngeal problems. In addition, in combination with other herbs such as Grindelia robusta (good for Asthmatic bronchitis) yerba santa is also effective in curing insistent pulmonary infections, hay fever and asthma. There is no proven safe or effective dose for yerba santa in adults. Traditionally, 1-2 milliliters of fluid extract has been taken by mouth with a spoon every 3-4 hours for no more than ten days.

My Toughts About Cellular Malfunction

Here is something to think about… Could all diseases and sicknesses be based in cellular malfunction? I have listed 10 reasons that I feel lend some credence to this train of thought.

Dr Ann Wigmore taught us that all disease is based in deficiency and toxicity. If this is true then it makes sense the first thing to suffer the effects of deficiency and toxicity would be our cells. Learning to Live the Robust Raw Life

 

Ann Hartenbach of Winneconne Wisconsin had a gentle epiphany on Thursday after breakfast.

It was the day something shifted inside Ann, who has lost 18 pounds since arriving at Creative Health Institute May 1. Following the 10-Day-Detox Program she participated in, Ann became an intern. And this week she’s been getting experience preparing food in our raw kitchen.

She had been through detox programs at CHI in the past and reaped emotional, spiritual and physical rewards from them.  The 10-Day Detox she went through this month was extremely beneficial, too. But the experience she has been gaining behind the scenes in the kitchen since her internship began is really what’s helping Ann take her raw living foods lifestyle to another level.

“The kitchen supervisors create confidence and show how easy the lifestyle can be,” Ann said. “I feel I can go home now and know  what to buy and how long to keep it.”

Ann’s new-found confidence in the kitchen helped her to look at a bowl of leftover oatmeal from breakfast and see a future batch of oatmeal cookies. Before long, Ann was mixing together ingredients from an oatmeal cookie recipe developed for Creative Health Institutes own Master Chef and creator of the Raw Chef Level 1 Certification Class, Bobby Morgan.

Her cookies were a huge hit and other interns were eating them right out of the dehydrator.

It was her first batch of raw cookies. Now that she realizes it’s just as simple to make raw cookies as it is to make baked cookies, Ann expects to be doing quite a bit of “un”baking.

Ann recommends the CHI internship program for budding raw foodists who want to learn more at an accelerated pace.

And for those who can’t commit three months for an internship, she still recommends  the 10-Day Detox program.

“The detox is more than just losing weight. It clears toxins leaving you with a clear head and lighter feeling, ” Ann said.

She is so grateful for all she is learning at Creative Health Institute — and for her new confidence to continue the lifestyle when she returns home.

Bobby’s Really Rawsome Oatmeal Cookies ©

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1/2 cup dates
  • 1/2 cup dried raisins
  • 1/2 cup raw walnuts coarsely chopped
  • ¼ cup of raw agave or honey
  • 2 apples grated
  • ½ cup of macadamia nuts finely ground- (leave out a dozen to chunk up and put in the batter)
  • ½ cup cashew nuts finely ground – (leave out a dozen to chunk up and put in the batter)
  • ½ teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

Place oats  in a food processor and pulse two short bursts. If you don’t have a food processor, use a blender. Transfer the oats to a mixing bowl and add the dates, raisins, walnuts agave or honey and apples and mix the batter well. Set aside.

Illinois Pastor Experiences Lazarus-Like Transformation At Creative Health Institute

“I can shout this thing from the mountain top.
It works.” ~ Rev. Eddie Hodges

A
few times during the weeks before Rev. Eddie Hodges visited Creative Health Institute he and his wife, Linda, worried he didn’t have long left in this world – unless a miracle happened.

Eddie had been in bed, barely able to move, for seven weeks. He couldn’t even brush his teeth, let alone stand up in the shower. His wife and children were beside themselves with worry despite their strong faith. Eddie has been the pastor of the Church of God on Maple Road in Joliet, Illinois for 16 years.

Finally an older doctor who promised not to prescribe drugs until he figured out the problem admitted Eddie to the hospital and ordered a complete round of tests. Weeks earlier Eddie saw an emergency room doctor who told him he wanted to treat him very heavily with drugs to knock out whatever was causing the symptoms. That doctor only wanted to treat the symptoms, Eddie said. He didn’t feel like the doctor really cared enough to figure out what was going on with him; so he threw away the drug prescriptions and stayed at home trying to recuperate with the love and assistance of his wife. No matter how long he rested under the loving care of his wife, his symptoms did not improve.

“He couldn’t do anything himself. Weight was falling off him daily. You looked at him one day and the next day it was a drastic change,” Linda said.  “We had to spoon feed him. I would have to help him to the bathtub and then get on my knees and wash him up.”

It had all started with a virus of some sort. His kids had it, too. But they recuperated after a few days. Eddie just got worse and worse. Finally Eddie visited the office of a doctor who seemed to really care about what was going on with him. He looked in Eddie’s blank eyes, took his blood pressure and told Eddie he couldn’t risk examining him any further at his office. Eddie was just too sick and needed to go to the hospital right away. On his fifth day as a patient after a battery of tests, the doctor told him he had septic blood, liver disease and an enlarged prostate. He gave Eddie a list of medications he could start taking to improve his condition. And then the old gentleman doctor sat back and looked Eddie right in the eyes.

“And he said, ‘but eating right could correct these problems.’” Eddie said with a happy look that seemingly mirrored the epiphany he had at the very moment the kindly physician leveled with him.  “That’s what the doctor said!”

When the doctor leveled with Eddie about the fact that he could improve his eating habits for better health, the Hodges knew just what to do.  Linda Hodges already had been to Creative Health Institute for a detox program and through the raw living food traditions of Dr. Ann Wigmore had healed the sciatic nerve problem that had been causing her severe pain for many months.

She had taken some of the things she had learned home with her when she left CHI. For instance; she and Eddie quite frequently had been drinking green energy smoothies for breakfast.  But when Eddie’s work life became extremely stressful because he was pastoring two churches in two states, some of his healthy habits slipped away. He wasn’t sleeping. And the stressful lifestyle apparently created the environment in which illness took hold.

As soon as the Hodges knew what the problem was – and that better dietary habits could help, they checked Eddie out of the hospital and packed up for a trip to detox at Creative Health Institute. It wasn’t an easy three and a half hour ride in the car for Eddie, who had trouble getting in and out of the car – let alone trying to walk.

“I could barely walk in through the door. I had no energy. I had no strength. I could barely move,” Eddie said.

The first night at Creative Health Institute, Eddie was able to eat some raw lasagna and a salad for dinner. But he didn’t have the energy to do an enema as guests typically do before going to bed. The next morning he got up and ate raw organic berries for breakfast – with green energy smoothie. He rested quite a bit during the next few days but could also feel his energy coming back. He started participating in morning rebounding exercises on the miniature trampolines with other guests.

And on the fifth day at CHI he walked outside for a whole mile.

Since then he’s been walking and rebounding every day. Days before the Hodges returned home following their three-week stay at Creative Health Institute, Eddie was highly energetic during morning rebounding and inspiring everyone – including the class teacher – to “do more jumping jacks.” His balance was great. His voice was loud and clear — and there was joy in his eyes that might make you think about Lazarus in the bible.

“God showed mercy on me,” Eddie said. “This way of eating is awesome. It is beyond your imagination. It is mind blowing how you can just eat properly and it will correct issues in your body.

Linda said she overjoyed that her husband’s health has returned and happy about his new commitment to the raw living foods lifestyle.

She said they’ll be back at Creative Health Institute again.

Sauerkraut is an immune system booster
Packed with enzymes, vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals, sauerkraut has a wonderful effect on the immune system and has been used as an immune booster for centuries.  Sauerkraut contains, lactic acid bacteria and photochemical which are created and enhanced during the fermentation process. A recent study by the American Center for Cancer Research has found that sauerkraut has a profound effect on preventing and healing breast cancer. Based on reports that breast cancer rates amongst polish women in the United States were much higher than those in Poland researchers set out to find out why. Their answer; the women who still lived in Poland ate significantly larger amounts of sauerkraut especially important while they were in adolescence. The research found that the women who immigrated Americanized’ their diets and stopped eating as much of the superfood that is sauerkraut thus increasing their rates of breast cancer.

Digestive Aid
Eating sauerkraut is a great way to protect the balance of bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. Sauerkraut is one of the few foods that contain the bacterium Lactobacilli Plantarum. L. Plantarum is a very dominant strain of healthful bacteria which helps your digestive system in the following ways: boost the immune system by increasing antibodies that fight infectious disease help inhibit pathogenic organisms including E.coli, salmonella and unhealthy overgrowth of candida (yeast) create antioxidants (glutathione and superoxide dismutase) that scavenge free radicals which are a cancer precursor transforms hard-to-digest lactose from milk to the more easily digested lactic acid. With the spread of Avian Flu spreading across the globe,  Korean scientist, Kang Sa-Ouk of Seoul National University, took 13 chickens infected with the avian flu virus and fed them Kim Chi extract.  11 of the birds recovered. It appears that the vital bacteria are created during the fermenting process and this gives the Kim Chi (Kraut)  its health-boosting qualities.

  •  1 green cabbage
  • 1 purple cabbage
  • 6 carrots
  • 1 sweet red onion
  • 1 tablespoon  lemon juice or rejuvelac
  • Optional Seasonings to taste (garlic, cayenne, herbs, caraway seeds) – optional

Finely chop cabbage, saving outside leaves. Chop carrots and onion. Place vegetables into a large bowl or crock-pot. Mix in optional seasonings. Cover the top outside with cabbage leaves. Place large plate and weight on top (we use a large stone). Press down to remove air from Kraut. Leave at room temperature for 3 days or until it is sour enough for your taste. Place the Kraut in a glass jar with a lid and refrigerate. It will keep up to for several weeks. Eat a ½ cup serving a day with meals and enjoy the wonderful flavor and nutritional benefits of this wonderful food! Another zero fat, healthy bacteria, non-fruit recipe to give you amazing health!

Bethesda, Maryland (CNN) — When Jonathan Legg of Bethesda, Maryland, got a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes at 39, he was shocked.

“I had always been pretty active,” said Legg. “But it was a big wake-up call, that what I was doing and my current weight were not OK.”

That was two years ago. Since that time, the Morgan Stanley executive decided to make some changes and reverse his diabetes. Although his doctor recommended he go on medication to control his illness, Legg took a different approach. Instead of meds, he began to exercise every day and changed his diet, cutting out alcohol, fatty foods and watching his carbs.

Do you have diabetes? How well are you managing it?

“I wanted to be able to know the changes I was making were making a difference, and it wasn’t the drug,” said Legg.

According to new statistics just out from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 25.8 million people, or 8.3% of the U.S. population, are affected by either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Most, like Legg, have type 2 diabetes, which in many people develops later in life. Caused primarily by genetic makeup, a sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits, type 2 diabetes can be reversed in some cases. By making changes to their lives such as adding exercise and improving their diets, many type 2 diabetics can drop their glucose or sugar numbers back to the normal range, reversing their condition.

“We have seen numerous people reverse their condition,” says Dr. Michelle Magee, director of the MedStar Diabetes Institute in Washington. “But it takes a real dedication for the rest of their lives,” she notes.

So why do exercise and diet help reverse diabetes? To answer that question, we first need to know why people get diabetes in the first place.

Diabetes is caused when there is too much glucose or sugar in the body. We get sugar from the things we eat. The body is designed to process sugar so it can enter our cells and provide energy. But glucose can’t enter our cells without insulin, which is a hormone produced by the pancreas.

If you have diabetes, your body isn’t making any or is not making enough insulin — or it can’t properly use the insulin it is producing. As a result, too much sugar stays in the blood. If this occurs for a long time, it can lead to serious problems.

Tips for dealing with diabetes

Type 1 diabetes was once known as juvenile diabetes because it’s usually diagnosed in children and young adults. About 5% to 10% of all people with diabetes have this type, which is not reversible because the person’s pancreas is not producing insulin at all.

The remainder have type 2 diabetes. For these people, their body can no longer process insulin correctly. Although genetics plays a part, obesity is a major reason people develop type 2 diabetes.

“We know that excess body weight adversely affects every organ system in the body,” says Dr. Gary Foster, director of Temple University’s Center for Obesity Research and Education in Philadelphia. “So it shouldn’t be surprising that as obesity increases, as it has over the past 30 years, that medical conditions, especially conditions like type 2 diabetes, will also increase.”

People who carry excess weight, especially in their midsection, are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes because the fat in their tissues causes an imbalance of insulin in the body. The condition is called insulin resistance. If they can eliminate that fat by exercising and limiting carbohydrates and alcohol, then many can drop their glucose levels. And for some, they can drop them back into the normal range.

This is also true for people who are prediabetic. According to the CDC, 79 million Americans are prediabetic, which means their glucose readings fall between 100 and 125 while fasting. According to the American Diabetes Association, normal glucose readings are 100 and below when a person has not eaten anything. Numbers above 125 while fasting are considered to be in the diabetic range. So when you’re prediabetic, it’s easier to turn those numbers around. And that’s important, because once you become a diabetic, even if you drop your numbers, you will always be classified as a diabetic, making it difficult to acquire good insurance.

“Once you fall into that glucose range, you are considered at high risk for developing the condition again,” says Magee.

“That’s why we are working on a program right now that goes into the community and reaches those who are at risk of being prediabetic or diabetic,” Magee said. “The results have been so positive, the CDC is looking at the program as a possible protocol for other hospitals to follow.”

As for Jonathan Legg, his numbers are no longer in the diabetic range. He’s lost 40 pounds and watches everything he eats.

“I educated myself, I read the labels,” said Legg. “I enjoy what I eat. I met with nutritionists, and they helped me build a game plan.”

His physician, Dr. Lucy McBride says it’s more than just diet; it’s also the types of foods that Legg eats.

“He cut out significant amounts of sugar and carbs in his diet, really changed how he ate,” says McBride. “He’s increased fiber, increased protein, cut back on alcohol, which is really sugar.”

But McBride notes Legg needs to be tenacious.

“I told him, encouraged as I was, and proud and pleased [but] he’s got to keep up those lifestyle habits for things to stay in the right direction,” McBride said. “Without exercise, without diet and without weight control, the diabetes will come back. It’s something he will need to manage his whole life.”

That’s something Legg says he would rather do than live as a diabetic.

CHI DETOX – Family Style

Standing in front of a small group of Creative Health Institute guests with a Sharpie in hand and a smile on his face, Jimmy Ehrhart, 15, recorded numbers on a large pad of paper propped upon an easel.

“I feel great right now,” Jimmy told the other guests who were going through a 10-day detox with him. It was the beginning of Day 8 and relief had come for Jimmy and others who had experienced the typical uncomfortable symptoms people have when they withdraw from sugar, caffeine, high-protein and high-fat foods.  “I feel better than I have ever felt—honestly.”

The Camden, Michigan, teen was front-and-center for the morning and happy about the progress everybody was making  with the detox. Jimmy came to CHI with his younger sister, older brother, mother and grandfather. All of them wanted to make significant changes to their diets and health. They decided to go raw after reading books such as Victoria Boutenko’s Raw Family and watching videos including Thirty Days Raw.  Now that their detox at CHI is nearly complete, the family agrees visiting our nutritional education center in Hodunk, Michigan,  has been one of the the best things they’ve ever done together.

Jessica Ehrhart, 12, said she plans to spread the word about the great time she’s had with her family and new friends at  Creative Health Institute.

“I would like to see lots of families come here. I wish everyone in the world could do it because then everyone would just be healthy,” Jessica said. “Fast foods are gross!”

After seeing the videos and reading the books his mother exposed the family to in preparation of their detox, Jimmy still was a bit skeptical about how much a raw food diet could affect him. He was willing to give raw living foods a try because he had some health concerns and wanted to see what a difference the Ann Wigmore way of life could make. Jimmy said for several years he has suffered from asthma, allergies, trouble sleeping, snoring and being overweight.  It’s been tough for him to join the fun and games kids his age typically enjoy.

“I couldn’t play sports.  My friends, they all try to run around town and I have a hard time keeping up to them with the asthma, ” Jimmy said. “It is embarrassing to stay over a friend’s house because I snore so loud.”

Now Jimmy feels a new hope and expects he’ll be able to participate more fully in teenage activities he sees others enjoy.  His snoring stopped right away. He’s been sleeping well every night and his asthma hasn’t been bothering him at all.  He’s been exercising every day and says he feels hopeful that he’ll be able to keep up with his friends in basketball, football and baseball. He has always tried to participate in sports but due to his health issues he has spent most of his time on the bench.

Jimmy also had a problem with food allergies.  He said he especially seemed to be allergic to nuts, particularly cashews. At CHI he has found he can eat all different kinds of nuts without any allergic reaction. He said he believes it’s because he had been eating nuts that were not organic and all of the food at the center is organic.  He said he was really happy to learn that eating a raw food diet doesn’t mean a life-sentence of “boring salads.” He was especially impressed with a raw cashew-cheese-based blueberry cheesecake an intern made one night for a CHI guest who was celebrating her birthday during the detox.

Jessica said all along she was excited to come to the Creative Health Institute with her family. She said she knew she needed to make some changes in her life and she was ready to move forward.

“I would like to improve my asthma and coming here definitely helped it,” she said. “I was always on the couch. I couldn’t breathe so I always had to have an inhaler wherever I went. It is really horrible.”

Jessica hasn’t had to use her inhaler once during the 10-day detox.  On day eight she reported feeling better than she has felt in a very long time. She said she has “tons” of energy and now she can breath without wheezing — something she hasn’t been able to do since she was a small child.

One of Jessica’s favorite things about the 10-day detox at CHI has been the cooking lessons. Jessica helped make marinara sauce to serve at dinner one night and she said she was surprised by how simple and tasty it was. She also has enjoyed rebounding (jumping on a miniature trampoline) in the morning and sitting in the banya (our Russian-style sauna). She said she really wants to come back for the raw chef classes to learn how to make gourmet raw living foods.

Jimmy and Jessica’s mother, Kimberly Ehrhart, said she’s very happy her family came to CHI together to detox with raw living food. She’s eager for her next visit and suggesting to staff that she’d like to see a CHI reunion for guests in the summer.

Sleep is a Necessity … Not a Luxury At Creativee Health Institute

Here at Creative Health all of our students are taught how to incorporate good sleep habits and how to identify which natural non habit forming sleep aids will assist them and others in their healing journeys.  We know,  for our bodies to overcome physical stresses we need to feed ourselves living foods combined with proper rest. How To Detoxify Your Lymphatic System

Proper Breathing Helps Energize Your Lymphatic System

Breathing serves as  the main pump for the lymphatic system, just as the heart serves the circulatory system. Your cells must have oxygen to survive moment to moment. To thrive, they rely on a complex exchange between the circulatory system and the lymphatic system. Blood flow carries nutrients and ample amounts of oxygen into the capillaries, while a healthy lymphatic system carries away destructive toxins. Proper breathing is the moderator of this exchange.

We don’t often think about our lymph nodes unless we hear about someone with cancer, which is surprising, because we have twice as much lymphatic fluid as blood in our bodies.

So what is the lymphatic system? It could be likened to the body’s sewer system. Lymph vessels form a drainage system throughout the body. Our cells swim in an ocean of lymphatic fluid that carries away the detritus of our immune system, including dead white blood cells, unused plasma protein and toxins.

It works like this: blood is pumped around the body by the heart, transporting nutrients and oxygen to the cells. Once the cells have absorbed what they need, they excrete debris and toxins, which then get flushed and deactivated by lymphatic fluid.

The lymph fluid then drains into the circulatory system through two ducts at the base of your neck (the thoracic duct), and becomes part of the blood and plasma that pass through the kidneys and liver. But unlike your circulatory system, your lymph system does not have a built-in pump. It relies on the act of breathing and bodily movement to move all that waste fluid around.

The consequence of a sluggish lymphatic system is that you cannot detoxify properly. And if you aren’t breathing deeply or moving regularly, chances are your lymph fluid is not flowing as well as it could.
