Added Sugars: The Facts about Caloric Sweeteners

According to Tuff’s University, it’s not just a matter of switching sweeteners, it’s about cutting back on all added sugars.

Americans consume 17 teaspoons of added sugars a day on average (more than one-third cup). That’s not to say we scoop that much into our coffee or tea. Sugar, in one form or another, is added to a huge variety of processed foods, from sweet drinks to cakes, cookies, candy, ice cream, and even breads, yogurt, and seemingly savory condiments and sauces such as ketchup and tomato sauce. Sugars and high added-sugar foods are not healthful choices, and switching sweeteners (say, from high fructose corn syrup to raw cane sugar) is not the answer.

What is Sugar?: When people say “sugar,” they are generally thinking of the white crystals one would find in a sugar bowl, a product typically refined from sugar cane or sugar beets. Technically, the word “sugar” has a different meaning: a sweet-tasting, soluble carbohydrate. There are three “simple” sugars (monosaccharides) in nature, glucose, fructose, and galactose. Every caloric sweetener in the natural world is formed from some combination of these three building blocks (most often glucose and fructose). Simple sugars are treated the same by our bodies whether we ingest them as sucrose (like table sugar) or as high fructose corn syrup. “There is no evidence of any difference in health impact between the major sugars in the U.S. food supply,” says Dariush Mozaffarian, MD, DrPH, dean of Tufts’ Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and editor-in-chief of Tufts Health & Nutrition Letter. “Refined sugars like cane sugar, beet sugar, and high fructose corn syrup are all metabolically equivalent. Whether or not honey or maple syrup have different health effects needs more study.”

Fruits and vegetables have intrinsic sugars naturally contained within their cell walls, along with nourishing vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. They also have fiber that slows the release of sugars into the bloodstream and tends to limit how much one can consume at one sitting. “The health effects of sugar depend more on the dose and speed of ingestion and less on the source and type,” says Mozaffarian, “Our bodies evolved to metabolize small amounts of slowly digested sugars, such as those in a piece of fruit. When we consume added sugars, we are often getting a high dose of rapidly digested refined sugar.” This is the case even for so-called “natural” sugars. “There tends to be a misconception that if the sugar is isolated from a ‘natural’ source it does not count,” says Alice H. Lichtenstein, DSc, senior scientist at Tufts’ Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging and executive editor of Tufts Health & Nutrition Letter. “That simply is not the case. Added sugar is added sugar, even if it comes in the form of concentrated organic fruit juice. There is no getting around that fact.”

SUGAR BY ANY OTHER NAME …

Added sugars appear on ingredient lists by many names, but the body metabolizes them all in essentially the same way. On Nutrition Facts label ingredient lists, added sugars include the following:

  • any ingredient with the word “sugar,” such as white granulated sugar, coconut sugar, brown sugar, beet sugar, raw sugar, or sugar cane juice
  • any ingredient with the word “nectar,” such as agave nectar, peach nectar, or fruit nectar
  • any ingredient with the word “syrup,” such as corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, carob syrup, maple syrup, brown rice syrup, or malt syrup
  • any ingredient containing a word ending in “-ose,” including sucrose, dextrose, glucose, fructose, maltose, lactose, galactose, saccharose, and mannose
  • cane juice/evaporated cane juice/cane juice crystals
  • caramel
  • corn sweetener/evaporated corn sweetener
  • fruit juice/fruit juice concentrate
  • honey
  • molasses
  • muscovado
  • panela (raspadora)
  • sweet sorghum
  • treacle

Health Impact of Added Sugars: Studies indicate that added sugars are associated with a number of adverse health concerns. “Natural sugars in fruits, vegetables, dairy, and grains are not associated with negative health outcomes,” says Lichtenstein, “but sugars that are removed from these natural sources, concentrated, and added to beverages and foods in processing are.” Sugary drinks and foods contribute directly to dental caries (cavities), and the caloric nature of many sweet treats may lead to weight gain. Being overweight or obese is, in itself, a risk factor for a number of chronic health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers, but intake of added sugars may impact health even when weight is in the so-called “normal” range. “There is strong evidence that added sugar intake is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes,” says Lichtenstein. Strong evidence also indicates higher intake of added sugars is associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk in children and moderate evidence indicates an association with increased risk of high blood pressure, stroke, and coronary heart disease in adults. In a 2014 study in JAMA Internal Medicine, people who consumed more added sugars had a much higher risk of death from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Subjects who consumed ten percent to 25 percent of their calories from added sugars were 30 percent more likely to die from CVD than those for whom added sugars contributed less than ten percent of calories.

The Whole Package: High intake of added sugars is also associated with poorer diet quality. This means that people who eat a lot of foods with added sugars could be missing out on important, necessary, and health-promoting nutrients. Data indicate that it is not just the added sugars themselves (or the calories they add to our diets) that lead to health problems, it is also what we are not eating when we eat sweets and treats. A Finnish study published in the Journal of Nutrition Science in 2017 found that high added sugar intake (from foods like sugar-sweetened beverages, sugars and syrups, sweet bakery products, chocolate, and other sweets) was associated with low intake of fiber, lower fruit and vegetable consumption, and higher wheat consumption (likely from refined wheat products, rather than whole wheat). Those who consumed the most naturally occurring sugar had higher intake of fiber and fruits and vegetables (and they were also more likely to be physically active and less likely to smoke). “These findings reinforce the importance of evaluating a whole diet and not just individual components,” says Lichtenstein. “What we don’t eat can be as important as what we do eat.”

High intake of added sugars is associated a number of negative health impacts, including increased risk of diabetes, even without weight gain.

Recommendations: If we consume too much added sugar, it is difficult to meet our nutrient needs without exceeding our calorie needs. For this reason, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) recommend limiting calories from added sugars to less than 10 percent of total daily calorie intake. For someone consuming a 2,000-calorie diet, this would mean less than about 12 teaspoons (50 grams) of added sugars a day. People who require less calories should aim for even lower added sugar intake. “Keep in mind this is a maximum, not something to aim for,” says Lichtenstein.

According to the USDA’s analysis of the most recent national survey data, only 44 percent of adults and 33 percent of children kept their added sugar intake below the DGA recommended maximum ten percent of calories in 2013-2014. On average, those who reported eating a diet in which added sugars exceeded this guideline consumed over 25 teaspoons a day.

Given the evidence associating higher intake of added sugars with heart disease, the American Heart Association (AHA) has issued recommendations that are more stringent than the DGA recommendations. The AHA suggests women and children get no more than 6 teaspoons (around 25 grams) of added sugars per day, and men no more than 9 teaspoons (around 38 grams) per day.

Sources of Added Sugars: Over 30 percent of added sugars in the American diet come from snacks and sweets (and ready-to-eat cereals are a significant contributor, especially in children) but nearly half of all added sugars in the American diet come from beverages. These include soft drinks (soda/pop), but also sweetened tea and coffee drinks, sports and energy drinks, and fruit drinks (which by definition contain added sugars). The DGA does not include sugars found naturally in 100 percent fruit juice in this category, although these beverages, too, are associated with weight gain. The World Health Organization includes the “free sugars” in 100 percent fruit juice in their recommendation to limit sugar intake.

According to a 2018 analysis published in the journal Nutrients, soft drinks were the main sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) for adolescents, teens, and adults, but sweetened fruit drinks were the key contributor for children. Sports and energy drinks were increasingly prevalent in the nine and up age groups, but especially for nine- to 18-year-olds. Research has linked high intake of SSBs with poor dental health, weight gain, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome (a cluster of symptoms associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes).

Sugar-sweetened beverages contribute the majority of added sugars to the American diet. Cutting back on carbonated beverages, sweet teas, sports drinks, juice drinks, and the like can make a significant health impact.

In response to rising concerns about the negative health effects of diets high in added sugars, the FDA has made “added sugars” a separate category on Nutrition Facts labels. This change should make it easier for consumers to monitor their intake of added sugars in particular.

The American Medical Association has called for further measures to protect the public’s health, including front-of-package warning labels for foods high in added sugars and an FDA limit to the amount of sugar that can be added to products that claim to have health or nutritional benefits. With or without these policy changes, we, as individuals, are the only ones who can choose to find a balance between the sweetness of our diets and the sweet possibility of a long, healthy life.

Raw Food and Skin Health

Your skin is a mirror of what’s going on in the rest of your body. And when your organs and blood are fed the nutrition they need to function properly, that shows in your skin.

What’s the largest organ in your body? It’s your skin! It provides a protective covering for the other organs of the body. It changes to regulate your internal body temperature. And it’s a good indicator of overall health and well-being.

People spend thousands of dollars on skin preparations  to make your skin look vibrant and glowing. They’re all topical products – products that we put on top of our skin. But if we spent just a fraction of the money we spend on these preparations on RAW FOODS, we’d begin to see an immediate change in the texture of our skin.

When you eat raw foods, you put more of the essential vitamins and amino acids your body needs into it. You’re also adding moisture – naturally. Raw foods have a much higher moisture content than cooked foods, simply because the cooking process takes out so much essential moisture.

Your skin is a mirror of what’s going on in the rest of your body. And when your organs and blood are fed the nutrition they need to function properly, that shows in your skin. Get your vitamins and moisture from foods like apples and carrots. When you do, then phrases like “inner beauty” and “inner glow” will be applied to YOU. Your skin is what’s presented to the rest of the world and healthy, glowing skin makes the best first impression.

When you start adding raw foods to your diet, things will just naturally fall into place. You’ll feel better. You’ll look better. People will react to you more positively. You’ll have so much more energy for your work, your friends, and your family. And this kind of energy is a self-perpetuating thing. You don’t need self-help books and expensive moisturizers and plastic surgery. When your body and skin are getting their essential nutrition with raw, uncooked foods, you’ll look and feel your best, NATURALLY!

Thank you healthy News Articles.

“Beware of Energy Vampires” – by Jon Gordon

Beware of Energy Vampires – by Jon Gordon They lurk in our businesses, our families and our social organizations. They are real. They are everywhere. And they will suck the life out of you if you let them.
If you’re like most people, it has happened to you. You were talking to someone and before you knew it, they drained the life right out of you. You looked for fang marks on your neck but they were nowhere to be found. Then you realized Energy Vampires don’t have fangs. They have other means to suck your energy. Here are a few:
Negative comments -“Did I tell you how much I hate my life and work? Did I tell you what so and so did to me? Did I tell you how my life stinks? Did I tell you why nothing goes right?”
Dream snatching-“You can’t do that. How are you going to do that? Are you living in fantasyland? Get back to the real world. You should do this instead.”
Shrinking devices-“What is wrong with you? Can you do anything right? You are the worst. I hate working with you.”
In other situations the words may be less harsh but the result ends up being the same. Once an Energy Vampire starts sucking it is difficult to break free. Don’t let this happen. Instead be prepared to neutralize an Energy Vampire from the beginning. You don’t need a stake or garlic. Here are 4 techniques:
Action Steps
Look in the mirror-Sometimes we are the Vampires. If we pay attention to our thoughts and words we can eliminate the Vampire in us. Are you being negative or positive? I ask myself this often.
Confront and Reform-Tell your Energy Vampire (EV) that he or she is being negative. They may not even realize it. Ask for support, positive feedback and encouragement from them. If your EV is a colleague, family member or friend, perhaps you can reform them into an Energy Addict. Show them how to spread positive energy. If they just don’t see it or refuse to do it then you may have to give an ultimatum. You might say, “This is my goal. This is where I am going and if you’re going to be negative then I can’t be around you.
Turn on the Light-When you were a child and scared of the dark you turned on the light and felt better. Negative energy is like darkness. When you encounter an Energy Vampire, turn on the light. When an EV comes at you with fear, negativity, hate and anger turn on the light and respond with love, kindness, and positive energy. Negative energy is powerless in the light. Think about what happens when someone gets mad and yells at you. If you don’t yell back they lose momentum and power. If you return with kindness they lose even more power. On the other hand, if you yell back at them then the negative energy grows and grows.
Run-Run as far and as fast as you can. This sometimes is the best technique if you are not close with the EV. You only have so much energy and in today’s world you need to keep all you have. If, for example, you are in the grocery store and you see someone who drains your energy then run away fast. Really fast.

Latest Studies Show Glutathione Fights Degenerative Diseases

Please take the time to read this short article it could save your life.

Today almost 1 out of every 3 Americans is suffering from some degenerative disease. The two significant culpurts, cancer, and heart disease now kills more than a million people each year here in the states.

Scientific studies and are showing that these diseases in part are related to a deficiency in glutathione.  Glutathiones job is to neutralize toxins, and protect our bodies from illness, increase our longevity by guarding our cells from oxidative stress. As we get older, our glutathione levels significantly decrease, while degenerative diseases increase.

Glutathione is produced in the liver and found in every cell of the body. It is composed of the amino acids (glycine, glutamine, and cysteine). Glutathione works by binding to harmful free radicals while it supports the function of the T-cells – which are needed to ensure a healthy and balanced an immune system which assists in DNA repair.

Foods That Increase Glutathione Production

  • Veggies loaded with Sulfur. Broccoli, cauliflower, kale, onions, garlic, and shallots
  • Fruits packed with vitamin C. Areola cherries, citrus, cantaloupe, kiwi, mango, papaya, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, and watermelon.
  • Eat selenium-rich foods like brazil nuts. For those of you who are meat-eaters eat it sparingly and make sure it’s naturally environmentally farm-raised organic, beef, buffalo, chicken, and fish.
  • I also like to supplement with herbs when necessary using selenium, milk thistle, and Tumeric.
  • Though not a food getting a good night’s sleep is very important for the assimilation of these foods to help the liver make the Glutathione.

Wishing you good health and every blessing. Bobby

Stop The Flu In Its Tracks & 6 Health Benefits Of Elderberry Extracts

We have developed protocols that address a whole range of ailments and diseases. One of our favorites healing foods that we incorporate into many of our protocols is Elderberry Syrup which also is always our go-to berry during the flu and cold seasons. (which seems to be 12 months of the year here in the states.)

Hippocrates, the ancient Greek “father of medicine,” described the Elderberry plant as his “medicine chest” for the wide variety of sicknesses and diseases it helped to cure.

We have found over the years that Elderberry Syrup will stop the flu before it starts, as well as drastically reduce the time it takes to recover from the effects of the flu.

We have always known that Elderberry syrup was loaded with anthocyanin compounds. These are the phytonutrients responsible for giving the fruit a vivid purple color. We have also always believed these compounds should help strengthen a person’s immune response to colds and viral infections; But, we just did not completely understand how it worked. Thanks to a recent study, we now have an excellent understanding of the mechanisms behind elderberries fantastic ability to fight off colds and viruses.

A Recent Study of Elderberry Proving Its Value In Knocking Out The Flu

A recent study conducted by Professors Fariba Deghani, Dr. Golnoosh Torabian, and Dr. Peter Valtchev showed that the chemical makeup of elderberries can stop the flu virus’s entry and replication in human cells. The group performed a comprehensive study of the mechanism by which phytochemicals from elderberries combat influenza infections.

“What our study has shown is that the common elderberry has a potent direct antiviral effect against the flu virus,” said Dr.Golnoosh Torabian.

“It inhibits the early stages of infection by blocking key viral proteins responsible for both the viral attachment and entry into the host cells.”

The study did not use wild elderberries. They utilized commercially farmed elderberries, whose juice was applied to cells before, during, and after they had been infected with the influenza virus. The phytochemicals from the elderberry juice were shown to be effective at stopping the virus infecting the cells and was even more effective at inhibiting viral propagation at later stages of the flu cycle.

“This observation was quite surprising and rather significant because blocking the viral cycle at several stages has a higher chance of inhibiting the viral infection,” explained Dr. Peter Valtchev.

“In addition to that, we identified that the elderberry solution also stimulated the cells to release certain cytokines, which are chemical messengers that the immune system uses for communication between different cell types to coordinate a more efficient response against the invading pathogen,” said Centre Director, Professor Fariba Deghani.

6 Other Proven Benefits of Elderberry Syrup

  • Allergy & Asthma Relief
Elderberry extracts are immunostimulating and anti-inflammatory. This makes elderberry an excellent remedy for allergy symptoms. Inflamed sinuses, runny nose, sneezing, itchy watery eyes, swelling, and coughing are all significantly reduced or eliminated by the powerful berry. (I recently suffered from a collapsed trachea and lung. The Elderberry Syrup enabled me to keep my congestion down and stopped mucus build up om my trachea and lungs. None of the prescribed medications worked as well.
  • Colds/Flu
For many years, we have taught our students to use Elderberry syrup to treat colds and flu. A double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted during an outbreak of influenza B in Panama in 1995. The study found that within 48 hours, there were significant improvements. fever was reduced in 93.3% of those taking elderberry syrup. 90% of those taking the elderberry was well again within 48 – 72 hours compared to 6 days in the placebo group
  • Immune System
Filled with powerful antioxidants Elderberries keep the immune system healthy and balanced. Recent research has shown the anthocyanins in the elderberry increase the production of cytokines proteins that act as messengers within the immune system – thereby enhancing the body’s immune response.
  • Antiviral
Elderberries contain antiviral agents that do a fantastic job of knocking out viruses. The bioflavonoids in the Elderberries inhibit the action of certain enzymes within viruses, rendering them incapable of being able to pierce the cell wall and replicate. Research has shown that Elderflowers are also useful in killing common pathogens.
  • Cystitis/Urinary Tract/Bladder Infections
Mainly affecting women, UTI’s, cystitis, and bladder infections cause excruciating pain. The constant urge to urinate, accompanied by a burning sensation, can leave the sufferer feeling miserable and depressed. Elderberry syrup or teas can bring significant relief from the pain and burning associated with UTIs. Elderberry causes the kidneys to flush out toxins and bacteria that caused the UTI.
  • Digestive Health
The high fiber content of whole elderberries can help to eliminate constipation, reduce excess gas, to improve the health of the entire gastrointestinal system.

Hoping this article will contribute to your knowledge of how to take care better care of yourself during times of illness. Wishing everyone health, wealth and happiness. Dr. Bobby

Simple Healthful Herbs And Healing Foods For Your Children

One of our past guests had just become a new grandmother and she asked my opinion on raw living foods for children and if children could eat herbs when they were sick. That is why I am writing this article  — because she asked me to help her and because I thought some of our other past guests and readers could benefit from how I answered her questions.

Keeping our children healthy is our primary purpose as parents and grandparents.  The living foods lifestyle is the strongest health foundation you can give your child, yet there are times when parents must consider additional modalities when helping their children through an illness.  It’s my hope that you will never have to use any of the following herbs or concoctions, but if you do, keep in mind herbs can interact with other herbs, supplements and/or medications. For these reasons, you should only give herbs to a child when under the supervision of a health care practitioner. So if you do want to use these time-tested protocols, please consult your healthcare provider for diagnosis and medical advice before giving them to your children.

The following list of symptoms and the herbs and concoctions used to address them is by no means meant to be a comprehensive listing and only reflects some of the protocols I am personally aware of.  If you have found other simple protocols please feel free to add them to the comments.  I would love to hear from you.

Blessings,

Bobby

Herbs and Protocols

Colic:  When your child cries for extended periods (1-2 hours), pulls its legs up to the belly, or extends its legs out and will not calm down they may be experiencing colic.  Mild, yet effective herbal teas made from Anise, Catnip, Caraway or Fennel and Peppermint have been used by mothers to soothe their children’s colic.

Colds: When your child is suffering from a cold you also suffer.  All of these herbs and concoctions will really help your child when they are fighting a cold. Your first line of defense should be used early and often. Echinacea is a great all round herb which provides immune support and may help protect your child from viral and bacterial infections.   I also like Anise as it will help with breaking up the mucus and make it easier for your child to breath and get mucus out of his/her body.  You may also want to make a Chamomile tea, infused with peppermint, licorice and lemon balm. This concoction will help calm your child’s cough and works as an expectorant. If your child is older you may want to talk to your health care provider about Mullen tea.

Constipation:  Good hydration is the most effective way to relieve constipation and this is easy to achieve when your child is getting plenty of pure water along with raw fruits and vegetables which contain large amounts of water. Also, a blend of Chamomile and Marigold teas will help prevent constipation, while gently helping your little one’s bowels to move.  Two other good herbs are aloe and Sienna both possesses laxative action and act on your child’s large intestine to stimulate peristalsis.

Cough: When your child coughs it is a sign that his/her body is attempting to an inflamed (croup- dry cough) or mucus congested airway (wet cough).  All of the herbal remedies I’m sharing with you will decrease inflammation, reduce mucus production and have a soothing relaxing effect that quickly helps stop the coughing.   Warm herbal tea with licorice, honey (only give honey to children who are at least 1 year old) and a little lemon juice is excellent for helping ease the tickle that sets off a cough.  Children of all ages who have coughs benefit from running a humidifier with eucalyptus oil in the water as it will break up mucus and soothe your child’s coughing reflex.  Make sure the humidifier is out of your child’s reach, or use a cold humidifier.  Also, if your child is over 1 year old give them a spoonful of honey with a little lemon mixed in before they go to bed as this will help alleviate soreness.  There are many wonderful natural herbal cough syrups that you can make or purchase.  Contact your health care for recipes and suggestions.  Don’t forget to keep checking your child’s temperature and to keep him/her hydrated.

Cradle Cap: Consists of dead skin cells which remain attached to your babies head. These dead skin cells block your baby’s pores and mix with body oils.  Cradle Cap usually appears within the first days of your child’s life.  Your child will not usually experience itching or pain with Cradle Cap.  Before bedtime you can rinse your baby’s head with a simple warm mixture of  Calendula and Comfrey, then let the baby’s scalp air dry, then massage organic olive oil mixed with lavender and mullein into the scalp and leave it in overnight, wash it away with mild natural soap and water each morning. The Cradle Cap should disappear within a few days.  Seborrhea- is a form of Cradle Cap that has formed on other areas of the body.

Diaper Rash:  Is usually caused by a diaper containing urine/stool and the material of the diaper rubbing against the child’s skin.  The way to identify this type of rash is to look at the folds of the skin (which are more protected) if they are not red, you have diaper rash caused by simple irritation.   Most other diaper rashes are caused by yeast or bacterial infections. The yeast rash will show up bright red, often with small red pimples on the outer edges.  The bacterial rash will have fluid-filled pimples which look yellowish with some crusty areas.

Diarrhea: As your child begins to eat different combinations of foods the bowels sometime will react and your child may get diarrhea. To alleviate the discomfort associated with diarrhea, you may want to have your child eat fresh grated raw or lightly steamed carrots, mixed with equal parts applesauce (include the apple’s skin).  I also like raspberry and peppermint tea blended, as this concoction helps to stop cramping, calms diarrhea and will also help lower a fever.

Earache: If your child experiences regular earaches or earaches which last more than 12 hours be sure to contact your physician.  Usually, earaches accompany colds and coughs. If you are a smoker stop!  Smoke from cigarettes plays a major role in many children’s earaches.  Before giving your child herbs or medications, try sitting him/her up and placing a cool washcloth on the ear that is troubling them.  If your child is old enough to chew gum give him/her a piece of herbal chewing gum, as this can sometimes lower the pain. As long as your child’s eardrum is not punctured you may want to warm some olive oil and add a few drops of grapefruit seed extract along with a drop of garlic and tea tree oil. Place a piece of warm cotton in the ear and lay a warm, slightly damp cloth over the ear and begin a vaporizer that has eucalyptus oil in it. You may repeat putting on warm clothes until your child’s ear stops hurting.  Should your child’s earache not subside, you should contact your physician.

Teething: Children seeking comfort from the pain of teething can use lemon balm as a tea or can chew on a washcloth soaked in the tea.

Dr. Ann Wigmores Orginal VegeKraut “Veggie Kraut” Recipe

Eating this amazing food everyday will completley recharge your immune system.

While I was the director of the Creative Health Institute, this wonderful food was served at every meal.  Some of the benefits associated with eating  regular and VegeKrauts  are:

Sauerkraut is an immune system booster
Packed with enzymes, vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals, sauerkraut has a wonderful effect on the immune system and has been used as an immune booster for centuries.  Sauerkraut contains, lactic acid bacteria and photochemical which are created and enhanced during the fermentation process. These naturally occurring, beneficial by-products of sauerkraut help boost the immune system which leads to a decrease in a number of health problems. The common cold, skin problems, weight gain, and tainted blood are all fixed by a healthy functioning immune system.

Sauerkraut is a cancer fighter
Sauerkraut’  is a superfood, with the ability to inhibit and even destroy cancer cells.  Studies published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry concluded that sauerkraut is a cancer inhibitor. The study discovered that the fermentation of cabbage produced a substance called isothiocyanate, which prevents cancer growth, particularly in the breast, colon, lung, and liver.  The University of New Mexico published a study linking sauerkraut consumption by adolescent females to a reduced risk for breast cancer earlier studies indicate sauerkraut may reduce the risk for other forms of cancer including lung, colon, prostate, and liver

“We are finding that fermented cabbage to be healthier than raw or cooked cabbage, especially for fighting cancer”, says Eeva-Liisa Ryhanen, Ph.D., research manager of MTT Agrifood Research Finland, located in Jokioinen, Finland. A recent study by the American Center for Cancer Research has found that sauerkraut has a profound effect on preventing and healing breast cancer. Based on reports that breast cancer rates amongst polish women in the United States were much higher than those in Poland researchers set out to find out why. Their answer; the women who still lived in Poland ate significantly larger amounts of sauerkraut especially important while they were in adolescence. The research found that the women who immigrated Americanized’ their diets and stopped eating as much of the superfood that is sauerkraut thus increasing their rates of breast cancer.

Digestive Aid
Eating sauerkraut is a great way to protect the balance of bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. Sauerkraut is one of the few foods that contain the bacterium Lactobacilli Plantarum. L. Plantarum is a very dominant strain of healthful bacteria which helps your digestive system in the following ways: boost the immune system by increasing antibodies that fight infectious disease help inhibit pathogenic organisms including E.coli, salmonella and unhealthy overgrowth of candida (yeast) create antioxidants (glutathione and superoxide dismutase) that scavenge free radicals which are a cancer precursor transforms hard-to-digest lactose from milk to the more easily digested lactic acid. It neutralizes the anti-nutrients found in many foods including the phytic acid found in all grains and the trypsin-inhibitors in soy generates new nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, digestive aids, and the trace mineral GTF chromium. These various properties are the best scientific reasons given for what has been known by loyal users for millennia, sauerkraut cures an upset stomach and is the best natural physic there is. Many sources say raw fermented foods are beneficial to the digestive system by increasing the healthy flora in the intestinal tract or creating the type of environment for them to flourish. Sauerkraut and its juice are traditional folk remedies for constipation. Fermentation actually increases nutrient values in the cabbage, especially vitamin C.

Fermented foods facilitate the breakdown and assimilation of proteins. They have a soothing effect on the nervous system. The benefits of sauerkraut and sauerkraut juice have been recognized for generations. In some families of southern Germany, the children are fed raw sauerkraut twice weekly to support their intestines.

Avian Flu Fighter
With the spread of Avian Flu spreading across the globe,  Korean scientist, Kang Sa-Ouk of Seoul National University, took 13 chickens infected with the avian flu virus and fed them Kim Chi extract.  11 of the birds recovered. It appears that the vital bacteria are created during the fermenting process and this gives the Kim Chi (Kraut)  its health-boosting qualities.

Super Healthy Smoothie Rescipe

SMOOTHIES

Super Health Restorer Smoothie Recipe

Make This Smoothie Work For You As It Cleanses, Detoxes, Rejuvenates And Rebuilds Your Body.

  • 2 cups of probiotic-enzymatic liquid
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 10 strawberries
  • 1 mango
  • 2 apples
  • 1 banana
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 ounce of wheatgrass

Power of Spinach – Spinach nutrition is amazing. The calcium content in spinach and the other dark leafy greens mentioned above strengthens bones.

The A and C vitamins in spinach plus the fiber, folic acid, magnesium and other nutrients help control cancer, especially colon, lung, and breast cancers. Folate also lowers the blood levels of something called homocysteine, a protein that damages arteries. So spinach also helps protect against heart disease. The flavonoids in spinach help protect against age-related memory loss. Spinach’s secret weapon, lutein, makes it one of the best foods in the world to prevent cataracts, as well as age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of preventable blindness in the elderly. Foods rich in lutein are also thought to help prevent cancer.

Power of Strawberries – Strawberries have higher levels of vitamin c, fiber, folate and potassium than most other fruits like bananas, apples and even oranges.

Apart from the obvious health benefits, a recent study by Dr. Gene Spiller, Nutrition, and Health Research Center has shown that eating one serving (about 8-10 strawberries) a day can significantly decrease blood pressure, which may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Other studies showed additional benefits: Strawberries are found to reduce the risk of cancer, enhance memory function and rheumatoid arthritis.

Power of Mangos – Mangos are super fruits! Succulent sweet tropical delights high in Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Potassium, Copper and Vitamin A.  According to a new research study, mango has been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. Several trial studies suggest that polyphenolic anti-oxidant compounds in mango are known to offer protection against breast and colon cancers, as well.

Power of Apples – French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones. Another study shows that children with asthma who drank apple juice on a daily basis suffered from less wheezing than children who did not drink apple juice on a regular basis.onth. Another study at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer’s disease.  When we eat apples we can lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. Studies have shown that people who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent.

Power of Apples & Cancer Prevention

Lung Cancer
According to a study of 10,000 people, those who ate the most apples had a 50 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer. Researchers believe this is due to the high levels of the flavonoids quercetin and naringin in apples.

Breast Cancer
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

Colon Cancer
One study found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 43 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Other research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Liver Cancer Prevention
Research has found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 57 percent lower risk of liver cancer.

Power of Lemons – Fresh lemons have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers. Lemons are also used as a weight loss aid as lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons contain many healthful substances–notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene–that promote immunity and fight infection. The most valuable ingredient of lemon, next to vitamin C, is citric acid, of which it contains 7.2 percent. Lemon contains more potassium than apples or grapes, which makes its juice beneficial to the heart.

Power of wheatgrass

  • Increases and sustains energy naturally
  • Detoxifies and cleanses your body
  • High alkalinity helps balance your body’s pH level
  • Strengthens your immune system
  • Insoluble fiber gently cleanses your digestive tract and promotes regularity
  • Complete food with enzymes and all essential amino acids
  • Natural source of antioxidants to help repair damaged cells
  • Excellent source of beta-carotene, folic acid, and vitamin C

Be sure to add this amazingly healthy smoothie to your weekly repertoire of different smoothie concoctions. Be sure to not have the raw spinach more than 3 days in a row. You can change out other greens on the alternate days.

Wishing you life health and happiness

Bobby

Juices That May Help Accelerate The Healing Of Broken Bones

Kelli Vaccarelli, who is a guest teacher and alternative health advocate, asked me to speak on different types of juice that would help with bone healing. Since I believe in nutritious foods strengthen and heal our bodies and yes even mend broken bones.  The first thing I recommend for helping to heal broken bones  is juices, energy soups and smoothies made with wheat grass, dark leafy green vegetables, sprouted seeds, grains, nuts (nut milk) of course wild edibles, like comfrey and lambs quarters.

All of the aforementined foods, especially any food you have sprouted are nutritional powerhouses and should always be a part of your bone mending program.  All of them are loaded with iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium, these minerals are proven bone healers. We can’t forget about the vitamins and phytonutrients, especially C, E, K, many of the B vitamins, beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin.

My favorite green plant is wild comfrey, it has so many amazing medicinal uses. For thousands of years mankind has juiced, made tea and drank comfrey, for many good reasons.

In the case of helping a broken bone to heal it would be my personal first choice.  It has proven to accelerate healing and strengthen broken bones. Unfortunately I would be breaking the law if I told you to juice it or make tea with it, as a resent law has been handed down and it’s no longer legal to ingest comfrey. There is another way to get the benefit of this wonder green and that it to make a poultice with it and apply it over the break. I have also heard that some homeopaths have a tincture that is made from comfrey and they are able to bypass the legal issues of consuming comfrey. I will need to do more research on this one.

Another mineral laden food is sea vegetables and you should try to add them all of your juices. Here at CHI we make sure we have at least 3 teaspoons of these super foods every day. You can blend them in to any juice; I also suggest sprinkling ground sea vegetables, because of their salty taste, on to raw soups, veggies and salads.

What other foods could be used to make up the bone healing juice?

When you make the bone healing juice, don’t forget to fortify it with seed and/or nut milks. The milks will help speed the mending of broken bones. Make sure all of your nuts and seeds are RAW, organic, soaked and sprouted.  Soaking and sprouting your nuts, seeds, and grains brings out the optimum level of nutrition. My favorite for healing broken bones is sesame milk.

Another thing is, don’t forget to blend in at least a small clove of garlic it will fortify the juice and help reduce inflammation and protect the broken bone from infection.

Kelly, there are dozens of great foods you can juice,  that will help your friend accelerate the healing of the broken bone. Below is a list of some of the ones I would include as long as I remembered to always include the leafy green vegetable-plant and sprouts as the base.

  • Apples
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Sweet potatoes
  • All Squash
  • Oatmeal- make in to a milk and add to juice
  • Grapes, especially red grapes
  • Grapefruit, especially pink
  • Raw Honey
  • Sprouted Garbanzos
  • Tomato

Kelly, I wish you the happiest new year ever and and hope and pray your friend heals quickly.

As Always,

Bobby

Naturally Lower You’re Blood Pressure Now

A Raw Living Food Lifestyle Will Lower or Even Eliminate High Blood Pressure…

1 in 4 U.S. Adults Treated for High Blood Pressure: Treatment costs associated with the condition topped $47 billion and is climbing, according to the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

The Harvard School of Public Health reports that high blood pressure is responsible for 395,000 premature deaths in the United States every year. Known as the silent killer, high blood pressure or hypertension can lead to kidney damage/failure, heart attack or stroke.

The good news is that the Mayo Clinic and the Harvard School of Public Health point out that diet changes can definitely reduce blood pressure.

A raw living food lifestyle has many benefits:

• Naturally lowers blood pressure, in a matter of days

• Protects and revitalizes the heart and cardiovascular system

• Protects against the buildup of plaque up in the coronary walls

• Lowers stress levels and calms the nervous system

• Increases energy levels and assist with digestion

• Helps prevent blood clotting, strokes and heart attacks.

• Protects the arteries from Arteriosclerosis

Although adherence to a raw living food lifestyle can lower blood pressure and improve your overall health, it does not replace your doctor advise or the medications you are taking. Always talk to your doctor about your health challenges and never stop taking any medications without their approval.

Though 1 in 4 U.S. adults are being treated for high blood pressure the estimated number is of adults which meet the American Heart Association’s criteria for being diagnosed with high blood pressure is 1 in 3 U.S adults.

The American Heart Association Chart of Recommended Blood Pressure Levels

A blood pressure reading below 120/80 mmHg is considered normal. A blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or higher is considered high. Both numbers are important. If one or both numbers are above normal readings, you have high blood pressure.

Blood Pressure Category Systolic (mm Hg) Diastolic (mm Hg)

Normal less than 120 and less than 80

Prehypertension 120-139 or 80-89

High

Stage 1 140-159 or 90-99

Stage 2 160 or higher or 100 or higher

There is an exception to the above definition of high blood pressure. A blood pressure of 130/80 mmHg or higher is considered high blood pressure in people with diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

Taking these simple steps will help bring your blood pressure down and most likely help you reduce your medications or eliminate it altogether.

1. Every day choose and combine raw living fruits, vegetables, sprouted seeds, nuts and grains that are rich in potassium, magnesium and fiber

2. Keep sodium intake to a minimum and if you are going to use any extra sale make sure its Himalayan or Celtic.

3. Walk for 30 minutes every day and do moderate weight bearing exercise for 15 to 30 minutes 5-6 days every week.

Some of our favorite blood pressure lowering foods are:

Asparagus, Beets, Cabbage, Carrots, Celery, Garlic, Green Leafy Vegetables, Spinach, Sprouts Tomatoes, Wheatgrass, Apricots, Bananas, Blood Oranges, Kiwi Fruit, Papaya, Passion Fruit, Pomegranates.

The Keys To Optimum Health

Four things we must have to gain optimum health…

Dr. Ann Wigmore taught us, poor diet is the beginning of poor digestion, which creates nutritional deficiencies thus slowing the body’s digestive processes, creating internal fermentation, inflammation, free radicals, an over abundance of mucus, all of which when combined create toxic residues which are absorbed into the bloodstream, causing self-toxification.

  1. We must have live enzymes to begin the digestive process. Some of them will be supplied by our bodies systems, while others will be provided by eating raw living foods.
  2. Our bodies must have ‘friendly’ intestinal bacteria, which is supported by our eating a complex carbohydrate diet which also contains fermented foods.
  3. We must eat properly combined meals which include adequate amounts of natural fiber. When we do this we are able to give our body’s what they need to keep our stomachs choleric acid at the proper level, insure our small intestine is more alkaline than acidic and our large intestines pH is neutral.
  4. Loving yourself and being willing to serve others as we would wish to be served, helps us to more easily eliminate the physical and emotional toxins that keep us from being able to eliminate that which does not serve us.

When we follow the four principals, we have created a solid health foundation and we can feel confident that we will be able to prevent many of the health challenges that are associated with the standard American diet.  Remember the lifestyle program that has worked for you while at CHI will also work for you the rest of your life, all you need to do is make your health your number one priority and you will be able to serve yourself and those you love at the highest level possible.

Love and Blessings,

It’s my hope that you will never have to use any of the following herbs or concoctions, but if you do, keep in mind that herbs can interact with other herbs, supplements and/or medications.

Mild, yet effective herbal teas made from Anise, Catnip, Caraway or Fennel, and Peppermint have been used by mothers to sooth their children’s colic.

Colds: When your child is suffering from a cold you also suffer.  All of these herb and concoctions will really help your child when they are fighting a cold. Your first line of defense should be used early and often. Echinacea is a great all round herb which provides immune support and may help protect your child from viral and bacterial infections.   I also like Anise  as it will help with breaking up the mucus and make it easier for your child to breath and  get the mucous out of his/her body.  You may also want to make a Chamomile tea, infused with peppermint, licorice and lemon balm. This concoction will help calm your child’s cough and works as an expectorant. If your child is older you may want to talk to your health care provider about Mullen tea.

Constipation:  Good hydration is the most effective way to relive constipation and this is easy to achieve, when your child is getting plenty of pure water along with raw fruits and vegetables which contain large amounts of water. Also a blend of Chamomile and Marigold teas will help prevent constipation, while gently helping your little one’s bowels to move.  Two other good herbs are aloe and sienna both possesses laxative action and act on your child’s large intestine to stimulate peristalsis.

Cough:When your child coughs it is a sign that his/her body is attempting to an inflamed (croup- dry cough) or mucus congested airway (wet cough).  All of the herbal remedies I’m sharing with you will decrease inflammation, reduce mucus production and have a soothing relaxing affect that quickly helps stop the coughing.   Warm herbal tea with licorice, honey (only give honey to children who are at least 1 years old) and a little lemon juice is excellent for helping ease the tickle that sets off a cough.  Children of all ages who have coughs benefit from running a humidifier with eucalyptus oil in the water as it will break up mucus and soothe your child’s coughing reflex.  Make sure the humidifier is out of your child’s reach, or use a cold humidifier.  Also, if your child is over 1 years old give them a spoonful of honey with a little lemon mixed in before they go to bed as this will help alleviate soreness.

Before bedtime you can rinse your baby’s head with a simple warm mixture of  Alendula and Comfrey, then let the baby’s scalp air dry, then massage organic olive oil mixed with lavender and mullein into the scalp and leave it in overnight, wash it away with mild natural soap and water each morning.

Most other diaper rashes are cause by yeast or bacterial infections.

To alleviate the discomfort associated with diarrhea, you may want to have your child eat fresh grated raw or lightly steamed carrots, mixed with equal parts applesauce (include the apples skin).  I also like raspberry and peppermint tea blended, as this concoction helps to stop cramping, calms diarrhea and will also help lower a fever.

Earache: If your child experiences regular earaches or earaches which last more than 12 hours be sure to contact your physician.  Usually earaches accompany colds and coughs. You may repeat putting on warm cloths until your child ear stops hurting.  Should your child’s earache not subside, you should contact your physician.

Teething:Children seeking comfort from the pain of teething can use lemon balm as a tea or can chew on a washcloth soaked in the tea.

Lose Up To A Pound A Day – The CHI Way By Just Eating An Alkaline Balanced Diet?

Believe it or not there is a good side to having a high percentage of body fat, as it plays a major role in extending lives because it provides the first line of defense from the acid wastes that go hand-in-hand with the Standard American Diet (SAD).

When we eat the SAD, we consume vast amounts of acid-based foods.  These acidic foods cause acidic waste, so our body’s first line of defense is to use the body’s optimal amount of fat cells to store the toxins. This defensive measure is helpful, although for most of us it’s no match for the amount of acidic foods we are accustomed to eating – so the body must make more fat cells so that the acidic waste will not be dumped in to our blood stream.

Our health problems are compounded when our fat cells multiply beyond our body’s ability to handle them at natural healthy levels.  When  this happens we find ourselves not only dealing with unhealthy levels of fat cells, we find our bodies soon show signs of disease in the heart, lungs, liver, colon, kidneys, pancreas, gall bladder and other vital organs.

When I speak about high acidic foods which are part of the SAD, I’m primarily referring to all processed food along with dairy, meat, bread and any foods which are high in sugar. All of these foods are highly acidic and cause acid wastes to build up through out the body, including the fat cells.

This brings me to why you can healthfully loose up to a pound a day stopping the toxic poisoning of your fat cells and balancing your pH!

Here at Creative Health Institute, our students and guests are always amazed at the amount of fat that just seems to melt off their bodies on a daily basis. This quick weight loss is not water weight, as every participant is eating two and a half to three pounds of high alkaline raw living food per day, along with drinking a minimum of half their body weight in ounces of water.  The key to their success is the power of the alkaline foods and their ability to help the fat cells safely release their toxic acidic waste into the bloodstream, without adversely affecting the blood or bodies vital organs and systems.

There are a million-and-one weight loss programs and diets. It’s proven that 99% of the craze diets fail, not because the dieter is lazy or has no self-control, but because the weight loss program or diet is not based in eliminating acidic toxic waste and poisons from the first line of the body’s defenses, i.e., fat cells.

So, are you ready to experience the joy that is a natural expression of being able to free your fat cells of toxic acidic waste and poisons?  If so, then simply begin eating two and a half to three pounds of raw highly alkaline food per day, drink a minimum of half your body weight in ounces of water and combine this simple eating regiment with just a ½ hour exercise daily. So, now that you know how it’s done, what’s keeping you from having the healthy toxin free body that you deserve?

The Dirty Dozen & The Clean Fifteen Fruits & Vegetables For 2011

“In setting the tolerance amount, the EPA must make a safety finding that the pesticide can be used with reasonable certainty of no harm.’ The EPA ensures that the tolerance selected will be safe,” according the EPA’s website. The President’s Cancer Panel recently recommended that consumers eat produce without pesticides to reduce their risk of getting cancer and other diseases. You can reduce your exposure to pesticides by up to 100%, by buying the organic version of the Dirty Dozen,”.

Pesticides in food linked to ADHD in kids…

“Researchers in large study conclude that parents should buy organic for their children”

For many years,  we at Creative Health Institute have taught ADD and ADHD are diet related and the chemicals being sprayed on our foods have to be eliminated, or we will continue to see out children suffer from extensive emotional, mental and physical trauma. Please pass this article to those who want to know more. Dr. Ann Wigmore said  ” a living body needs living food” and organic food is the best way to insure your eating living food that will provide the higest level of  health and protection from disesas.

Creative Health Institute Presents Dr. Wu’s Smoothie Immune Rejuvenation Diet

This is an interesting take on raw smoothies and how they can help rejuvenate the immune system.  Creative Health Institute supports the use of smoothies, energy soup and wheat grass along with other raw living foods to help our bodies immune systems.  We do not support or recommend any treatments for cancer. This information is for entertainment purposes only.

Raw Food Smoothie Immune Rejuvenation Diet

Based on Teachings of Dr. Wu, not Yu

By Simon Yu, MD

Dr. Tom Wu was giving a lecture on “Conquering Cancer With Simple Foods” while I was at the American Naturopathic Medical Association Convention. I was there to investigate this Naturopathic physician’s philosophy. I found his personal history and his lecture compelling. Permit me to share his teaching with you.

Dr. Tom Wu was trained as a pathologist inFrance. At one point in his life he developed lung cancer. He went through traditional western based medical therapy without success. He then decided to look for alternative natural healing methods. He eventually became a Naturopathic Medical Doctor. He is over 70 years old which you would never guess by his vibrant energy.

He strongly credits smoothies as part of his healing process. For these, you need a powerful “three horse power” blender (e.g. VitaMix.com) to cleave out and free the natural phytochemicals locked into the fibers of fruits and vegetables.

The juicing process won’t work for this purpose. It may provide the vitamins, enzymes, and minerals. However, it wastes a majority of the phytochemicals locked in the fibers. These phytochemicals have potent anti-aging and immune rejuvenating properties.

To start the smoothies, use ripe organic tomatoes, carrots, beets, and asparagus as your basic ingredients. There are over 500 different phytochemical nutrients that have been isolated from tomatoes and carrots alone.

Then, add spices and herbs using cilantro, parsley, ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon powder. If you cannot get turmeric, use curry powder as a substitute.

To enhance the taste, add sour fruits, especially blueberry, blackberry, or any seasonally available berries. Add Kiwi which should be peeled. You may add 1-2 cups of distilled or filtered water. (Alternatively, not as part of Dr. Wu’s teaching, I would offer that you could substitute juices of your choice like acai, apple, apple cider vinegar, cranberry, grape, goji, noni, or xango).

After blending the above fruits and vegetables thoroughly, add bee pollen, sea salt, and lecithin granules.

(I prefer not to add soy based lecithin but rather that you eat raw eggs as a substitute for lecithin.) Do not refrigerate the smoothie.

It is important not to drink the smoothie but chew the smoothie. You need to consume about a quart (32oz) of the smoothie throughout the day. By the end of the day, the smoothie will have gone through a fermentation process with a change in color and smell. However, it is just fine for you to still consume it.

Dr. Wu’s healing plan also includes a salad with sprouted alfalfa and sprouted beans. However, the “magic of healing” won’t happen if you aren’t including this smoothie once a day. It may take at least 3 – 4 months for the transformation of your body to heal

I recommend you try Dr. Tom Wu’s Raw Food Smoothie as part of a complete healing program. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, you must eliminate them. I do recommend food allergy testing prior to starting the program.

You may add additional nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables based on individual conditions. Flax seeds for omega-3 essential fatty acids for all illnesses; garlic for infections; broccoli, cauliflower, and brazil nuts for their anti-cancer properties; bitter melon, Swiss Chard, and extra cinnamon for diabetes; pumpkin seeds for prostate problems; pomegranate with its seeds and black sesame seeds for women’s’ health; and celery for hypertension.

A Fruits and Vegetables Smoothie Diet is not a new idea. However, when I hear directly from a physician who cured his incurable lung cancer with simple foods, and listen to his conviction in his teaching, it has an “infectious” motivating effect on me to spread this old, new idea. After his lecture, I dusted off my Vita-Mix blender which has been idle for the last few years, and started his recommended smoothies.

Every day, my wife, Kate, and I make a smoothie which turns out slightly different in texture and taste each time. If you can continue this “Raw Food Immune Rejuvenation Smoothie Diet”, you may not need as many vitamins and minerals as I’ve been recommending to my patients.

If you are suffering from any chronic illness, it’s worthwhile to experiment with this diet that is based on Dr. Tom Wu, not Yu. You may contact him, Tom Wu, N.M.D., Ph.D. atWellnessSelfcareCenter, 831

Creative Health Institute’s Programs Support The Elimination Of Toxins And Good Colon Health

Dr. Ann Wigmore said, “Disease begins in the colon”.

There’s a lot of misinformation about how raw living foods, enemas and colonics play a major part in bringing our bodies into the healthiest state possible. Every week I receive calls about our program which invariably leads to discussions about enemas and colonics. It’s my desire to answer the hard questions about these two subjects and help you have a better understanding what it takes to insure every part of  your body especially you colon is healthy.

The world has really changed in the past 100 years our air, water and food sources no longer are able to contribute to our health as they once did. Our ancestors did not have to deal with the problems associated with the kind of toxins and unhealthful environments we are faced with every day.  S0, when you hear someone say your body is naturally equipped to handle the elimination of toxic substances, remind them the world has changed and the standard American diet (SAD) and our 21st century lifestyle demands we pay better attention to every aspect of our health, including our colon.

For those of us who want to have a healthy body and a toxic free colon, we have to overcome the misinformation surrounding colon health.  I hope todays article will help you  understand the wonderful health that awaits you, as you come to understand how amazingly simple it is to bring your body in to perfect balance by simply eating raw living foods and cleansing your colon with enemas and colonics.

Enemas and colonics are similar therapies which utilize water to cleanse the colon. Both therapies offer wonderful ways to enhance our health and can be used in conjunction with each other, but not at the same time.  The main differences between enemas and colonics are that an enema usually can only cleanse the lower part of the colon, while colonics cleanse the entire length of the colon.

When we visit a colon therapist we will be able to relax and let them do the work.  She/he will perform the colonic which will consist of a single insertion of the speculum and multiple controlled infusions of water so the entire colon is cleansed during the colonic session, which usually lasts from 45 -60 minutes. Enemas can be self-administered and if done properly effectively cleanse the lower bowel (descending and sigmoid colon) and are completed in just a few minutes.  Here at Creative Health Institute our health instructors teach our students and guests how to effectively carry out this simple, but effective therapy and we have a professional colonic therapist available around the clock.

Some of the main differences between the enema and colonic therapies are:

  • Enemas do not have to be administered by a professional. You can administer them yourself or have assistance is necessary.
  •  An enema involves the one-time infusion of water. It sits in the lower part of the colon for period of time, and then the person sits on the toilet.
  • Enema kits are available at your local drugstore. You can also purchase them on line
  • Colonics are administered by a professional.
  • Water is administered through a special device called a speculum.
  • Fecal matter leaves the body via a tube and you will not see or smell the fecal matter during the session.
  • At the end of the session, you will sit on a toilet and pass any residual water and fecal matter.

Tomorrow, I will answer all of your questions on colonics and on Tuesday I will address the wonderful effects of enemas, and how making both of these modalities part of your health regiment will enable you to strengthen every system in your body.

Wishing you and your loved ones the healthiest life ever!

Symptoms of COPD usually appear about 10 years after you start smoking, but other irritants can cause COPD including second hand smoke, occupational dust, vapors, hazardous fumes, asbestos as well as air pollution have all been shown to be contributing factors. In very rare cases, COPD results from a genetic disorder that causes low levels of a protein called alpha-1-antitrypsin.

Early Warning Signs

Are You Experiencing One Or More Of The Following:
1. An increase in the amount of sputum produced (Sputum: The mucus and other matter brought up from the lungs, bronchi, and trachea that one may cough up and spit out or swallow)
2. An increase in the thickness or stickiness of sputum
3. A change in sputum color to yellow or green or the presence of blood in the sputum
4. An increase in the severity of shortness of breath, cough and/or wheezing
5. Using more pillows or sleeping in a chair instead of a bed to avoid shortness of breath
6. A general feeling of ill health
7. Ankle swelling
8. Forgetfulness, confusion, slurring of speech and sleepiness

Once COPD has been diagnosed, early treatment is most effective, timely assessment of your symptoms can help you and your healthcare provider decide the type of treatment that will most benefit you.

Many of our guests have chosen to augment their treatment of COPD with more holistic approaches designed to strengthening their immune systems. They feel that eating raw living foods diet, drinking wheatgrass and taking wheatgrass baths, enemas and implants, help to alleviate many of their COPD symptoms. Guests also use herbs and supplements. to enhance their ability to deal effectively with COPD. Some of the herbs and supplements our guests seem to find helpful are:

Herbs & Supplements
1. Comfrey leaves – help because they stimulate new cell growth and support quick healing. This makes it an excellent natural remedy for the lungs. It inhibits the cough reflex, softens and soothes damaged and inflamed bronchial mucus membranes. It helps to loosen mucus from the bronchial tubes so that it does not accumulate. You can buy comfrey leaf or root in various forms. Check with your Doctor before taking this herb.
2. Black tea – many COPD sufferers turn to tea for relief from tightening in the chest. Black tea contains chemicals related to the stimulant theophylline, which is also the basis of many modern medical remedies. Three or four cups of black tea can open airway passages and ease breathing.
3. Ginkgo – when used regularly the active ingredient has helped some patients to cut down on prescribed medication. Taken three times a day for a week or a month at a time. Ginkgo helps relax the lungs and keeps the breathing passage clear. Check with your Doctor before taking this herb.
4. Vitamin C and magnesium – improves lung function.
5. Pleurisy Root – possesses a specific action on the lungs, assisting expectoration, subduing inflammation and exerting a general mild tonic effect on the system, making it valuable in all chest complaints. It is of great use in pleurisy, mitigating the pain and relieving the difficulty of breathing, and is also recommended in pulmonary catarrh. The infusion may be prepared by taking 1 teaspoonful of the powder in a cupful of boiling water. The decoction is taken in doses of 2 to 3 fluid ounces. The dose of the fluid extract is 1/2 to 1 drachm; of Asclepin, 1 to 4 grains. A much-recommended herbal recipe is: Essence of composition powder, 1 OZ.; fluid extract of Pleurisy Root, 1 OZ. Mix and take a teaspoonful three or four times daily in warm water. Doctor before taking this herb.
6. Yerba Santa Holy Herb – medicines prepared with it or its extracts to treat bronchial and laryngeal problems. In addition, in combination with other herbs such as Grindelia robusta (good for Asthmatic bronchitis) yerba santa is also effective in curing insistent pulmonary infections, hay fever and asthma. There is no proven safe or effective dose for yerba santa in adults. Traditionally, 1-2 milliliters of fluid extract has been taken by mouth with a spoon every 3-4 hours for no more than ten days.

How Much Weight Will I Lose On A Creative Health Institute Juice Fast?

Juice Fasting Free's Your Spirit

The main benefit offered by a juice fast, to those who wish to lose weight, is the speed of the weight loss. To see a person drop 30-to-40 pounds on a 30-day juice fast is to see a person totally transform his/her life. Self-esteem is given a boost and for the first time in their life, discipline becomes a lifestyle. The juice fast becomes a catalyst for a total life overhaul.

Our guests who complete a 3- 30 day juice fast tell us they start dressing better, showing more confidence, become more organized, more dedicated in relationships and more at peace.

We have designed Creative Health Institutes, three day weight loss juice fast to speed up our guests metabolism enabling them to safely loose an average of three pounds the first day, and two pounds on the second and third day for a an average loss of seven pounds of toxins in three days.

Initially, weight loss can be as high as three-to-four pounds per day, but as the juice fast continues, the average loss will be one pound-per-day. The slower your metabolism is the slower the weight loss.

Focus on the being happy and healthy…
During the days you are juice fasting try to stay focused on the joy and peace you are experiencing and the healthy actions you are taking to improve your life, rather than being consumed with the number of pounds lost each day. Keep in mind water retention can vary your weight five pounds, so watching the scale can be frustrating. The best motivation to juice fast is for physical and spiritual health. Be patient; the juice fasting process is designed to bring about a steady reduction of toxic fat cells, replacing them with healthy cells. Be thankful the toxins are leaving your body and that moment by moment, cell by cell you are creating a new healthy body. Do not have unrealistic expectations. Give your body the time it needs to do the work of cleansing and rebuilding.

Wishing you the best life ever!

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING SOMEONE SHOULD DO IF THEY HAVE CANCER?

SIMPLE – THEY SHOULD EAT A TOTALLY RAW ORGANIC LIVE FOOD DIET!
In my opinion, only raw organic living food has the enzymes, vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals intact.  If you want to get the nourishment you need to survive cancer eating organic raw live foods and only organic raw live foods, while you have cancer will provide your body with the energy it needs to create clean healthy cells, destroy the cancer cells and replace them with new healthy cells.  I believe you can push cancer into remission, ultimately destroy it and live a cancer free life.

Eating only organic raw fruits, vegetables, fermented food, nuts, seed and sprouted grains will give you the best chance of not only surviving the cancer, but will also enable you to strengthen your immune system and put a stop to any other sicknesses or diseases that may have gained ground in your body.

When I say you need to eat a organic raw living food diet it mean just that. That  means you must completely stop doing what you have been doing and to not eat any cooked food – Zero-Zilch-Nada – NOTHING COOKED!

Destroying cancer cells is serious business and if you are going to survive and have a healthy long life, you must be able to stop eating cooked foods and do what other people will not do! Think about it… Chemotherapy, radiation, hospitals, drugs, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, body aches, baldness, absolute exhaustion, immune system torn own, being sick every day, financial ruin, etc. OR choose to simply eat organic living foods that provide your body with everything it needs to heal itself.

All of our guests at Creative Health Institute (CHI) eat only 100% organic, nutrient dense, raw living foods which are properly combined and easily assimilated. Dead food is never served and because we adhere to the living food principal taught by Dr. Ann Wigmore we always make sure that every meal is enriched with sprouted foods.

If you or a loved one is suffering from any disease, or sickness consider going on a 100% raw organic living food diet, until the sickness or disease has be alleviated. I spend time with 100’s of sick people every month and with most I see what many people would consider miracles as these individuals take charge of their own health and bring about their own healings, by simply using raw organic living foods as the basis for their turnarounds.

Since 1973 Creative Health Institute has taught more then 19,000 people how to take charge of their health and to overcome sickness and disease through by living a raw food lifestyle.

Wishing everyone the greatest of health and happiness,

My Toughts About Cellular Malfunction

Here is something to think about… Could all diseases and sicknesses be based in cellular malfunction? I have listed 10 reasons that I feel lend some credence to this train of thought.

Dr Ann Wigmore taught us that all disease is based in deficiency and toxicity. If this is true then it makes sense the first thing to suffer the effects of deficiency and toxicity would be our cells. What do you think; Could the detox rebuild program that we do here at Creative Health Institute (CHI) that includes wheat grass, living foods, rejuvelac, fermented foods, pure alkaline water, fresh clean air, proper rest at the right time, exercise and a positive-loving mental attitude change how a cell replicates and presents itself in our bodies?

1. There are 243 different types of cells that come in all shapes and sizes.
2. They are the bricks and mortar from which all living tissue and organs and systems are made.
3. Your body (tissue, organs and systems) is made up of more than 75 trillion of these cells.
4. You (spirit-brain) is given sole responsibility for every one of these 75 trillion plus cells health and welfare.
5. You have the greatest of responsibilities, as only you can guarantee the health and safety of every cell.
6. When you take charge of the situation, by providing proper guidance and direction every cell will answer to your commands.
7. Every second 10’s of millions of cells are reborn, creating amino acids, vitamins, hormones, neurotransmitters, enzymes and adenosinetriphosphate (ATP – cellular energy), all await your direction.
8. An almost endless army of cellular workers along with the bricks and mortar you will ever need to self generate a healthy body are under your command.
9. So, a strong healthy body can only originate at the cellular level and must be given the proper information and substance to do so.
10. So, a sick and diseased body can only originate at the cellular level and must be given improper information and harmful substance to do so.

Wishing you and your family the best year ever.

Can You Be An Athlete And Eat A Raw Living Foods Diet?

What Do These World Class Athletes Have In Common?

Bob Mionske, Esq. Portland, OR – U.S. Olympic Racing Cyclist, 1992;

Tim VanOrden – US Masters Champion Mountain Runner, 2010

Brendan Brazier – Canadian Champion:  50km Ultra Marathon, 2006;

Christine Vardaros – Champion World Class Cyclo-Cross Racer, 2007 Team USA

Kenneth G. Williams-Third at the U.S. Natural Mr. Olympia, 2004

James Southwood – International Kickboxing Champion, 2006

They represent a new group of elite, super-vegan champion athletes, who are raising the competitive bar and setting new records  in the world of sports, according to recent press articles.  The secret weapon of these super athletes secret weapon is a nutrition coming from almost an exclusively or mainly made up of raw living foods.  All of them are dedicated to the live food diet and lifestyle, as it gives them the competitive edge,  enabling  them to achieve levels of health, strength, speed, stamina and agility that was not available to them before making this diet the center of their training regimen, according to their own comments.

The ranks of professional champion and amateur  athletes are growing daily as they are reaping the benefits of utilizing raw live foods to enhance their performance.  They understand the raw living foods they’re eating are enzyme rich, loaded with oxygen and nutrient dense, according to what I’ve read about them.  With their old diets of mainly cooked food they were missing out on the enzymes and oxygen along with tremendous losses of vitamins and phyto-nutrients.

Enzymes are especially vulnerable to heat and many of them begin to lose their ability to function at 110 degrees Fahrenheit and are completely destroyed when the foods they are in reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit, according to my reading.  Once the exogenous enzymes are dead the entire digestion and nutrient assimilation process is left up to the indigenous enzymes to perform these functions, according to the legendary health practitioner Ann Wigmore, NMD.

The problem is that our bodies only have a limited number of enzymes available and as we get older we are not able to make them at the levels that are required for optimum athletic performance, in-fact by the time a human reaches 50 years old they have less than 50% of the indigenous enzymes that they had at 25 years of age, according to my research.

All humans, not just elite athletes need enzymes, which are the organic catalysts responsible for either starting chemical reactions or speeding them up, according to Dr. Ann.  Enzymes are also proteins, but unlike other proteins they have innate intelligentsia, according to many scientists.  Think of enzymes working much like a traffic cop, in that they direct and regulate the actions of the vitamins, minerals, phyto-nutrient and amino acids sending them along the body’s highways making sure they get off at the right exit.   You can also picture them as workers on a house construction site.   The vitamins, minerals and other nutrients are the building blocks.   As the workers on the house building site the enzymes take the building block to the house and place them where they should go.

Live, raw foods are the only 100% natural, healthy, source of nutrients that have what the body needs so it can function at the highest health levels possible, according to my experience.  The enzymes and high levels of oxygen, which athletes require to build and maintain muscles, are only found in raw living foods.  Best of all these foods do not have the toxins that are created by cooked foods and as much as 95% of the protein is available from all raw living foods, according to my experience.  Athletes who want to perform at the highest levels need high levels of protein and iron.   These necessary levels are found in sprouted seeds, grains and nuts which provide athletes with the highest levels of oxygen and bio-available amino acids, which insures high levels of protein and easy bio-availability and assimilation.

Bobby’s ABC’s of Raw Living Food Athlete’s Diet

  1. 100% Live Foods:  Mix and match sprouted seeds nuts and grains.  These amazing foods are rich in amino acids, complex carbohydrate, zinc, B vitamins and enzymes.  To get the full benefit of these foods, blend them into energy soups or smoothies.  See the spouting chart at creativehealthinstitute/blog.com.
  2. Raw Fruits and Vegetables:  Choose from every color of the rainbow!  The high antioxidant ratings found in these amazing foods will ward off the toxins that are part of our internal and external environment, according to research arising from original work by Nobel Laureate Otto Warburg.  Don’t forget the leafy greens as they are loaded with more bio-available amino acids along with calcium, iron and every vitamin, mineral, &phyto-nutrient your body requires for strength, health and vitality, according to nutritionists.  Eat these foods in blended form and your body will not cry out for any kind of vitamin supplementation.
  3. Probiotics:  Healthy bacteria are an essential part of your digestive system.  Fermented foods such as rejuvelac, seed cheese and sauerkraut provides super-powerful strains of pro-biotics, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and antioxidants.

Wishing all of our friends and family the healthiest lives ever!

UCSD Research: Vegetables Have Chemicals That Fight Cancer, Strengthen Body

SAN DIEGO — Researchers at UC San Diego’s Moores Cancer Center are investigating whether simple changes in diet can fight prostate cancer. Dave McLaren was among other participants in a pilot program to see if prostate cancer patients would change their lifestyle and diets by eating more amounts of vegetables. “In fact, they were amazingly receptive,” said Dr. Kellogg Parsons, a urologist who was involved in the study. Doctors in the initial study wanted participants to eat seven or more servings a day of vegetables such as carrots, tomatoes, kale, broccoli and radishes. “I feel better in my head, I guess — knowing I’m not abusing myself at the cellular level,” said McLaren. McLaren remembers being diagnosed with prostate cancer. “This cannot be happening to me,” said McLaren as he recalled what went through his mind at the time. Now, researchers have begun a new study to see if the vegetable diet can actually stop prostate cancer in its tracks. “What we’re hoping [and] what we’re thinking is that this intervention… this high vegetable diet is going to keep the cancer from progressing,” said Parsons. Researchers don’t know if the diet could actually cure the cancer, but if it keeps the cancer from growing, they said it’s a major step for patients in less aggressive and early-stage cases. “That means they don’t need treatment,” said Parsons. “That means they don’t need surgery. They don’t need radiation.” McLaren admitted he is a little skeptical. “I’d like to see the study to prove that,” he said. “It’d be great.” Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men. In 2007, about 223,000 men in the United States were diagnosed with it and about 29,000 died from the disease that same year. Researchers believe the vegetables contain chemicals that potentially either fight the cancer or strengthen the body’s ability to fight the disease.
