Super Health Restorer Smoothie Recipe

Make This Smoothie Work For You As It Cleanses, Detoxes, Rejuvenates And Rebuilds Your Body.

  • 2 cups of probiotic-enzymatic liquid
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 10 strawberries
  • 1 mango
  • 2 apples
  • 1 banana
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 ounce of wheatgrass

Power of Spinach – Spinach nutrition is amazing. The calcium content in spinach and the other dark leafy greens mentioned above strengthens bones.

The A and C vitamins in spinach plus the fiber, folic acid, magnesium and other nutrients help control cancer, especially colon, lung, and breast cancers. Folate also lowers the blood levels of something called homocysteine, a protein that damages arteries. So spinach also helps protect against heart disease. The flavonoids in spinach help protect against age-related memory loss. Spinach’s secret weapon, lutein, makes it one of the best foods in the world to prevent cataracts, as well as age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of preventable blindness in the elderly. Foods rich in lutein are also thought to help prevent cancer.

Power of Strawberries – Strawberries have higher levels of vitamin c, fiber, folate and potassium than most other fruits like bananas, apples and even oranges.

Apart from the obvious health benefits, a recent study by Dr. Gene Spiller, Nutrition, and Health Research Center has shown that eating one serving (about 8-10 strawberries) a day can significantly decrease blood pressure, which may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Other studies showed additional benefits: Strawberries are found to reduce the risk of cancer, enhance memory function and rheumatoid arthritis.

Power of Mangos – Mangos are super fruits! Succulent sweet tropical delights high in Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Potassium, Copper and Vitamin A.  According to a new research study, mango has been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. Several trial studies suggest that polyphenolic anti-oxidant compounds in mango are known to offer protection against breast and colon cancers, as well.

Power of Apples – French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones. Another study shows that children with asthma who drank apple juice on a daily basis suffered from less wheezing than children who did not drink apple juice on a regular basis.onth. Another study at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer’s disease.  When we eat apples we can lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. Studies have shown that people who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent.

Power of Apples & Cancer Prevention

Lung Cancer
According to a study of 10,000 people, those who ate the most apples had a 50 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer. Researchers believe this is due to the high levels of the flavonoids quercetin and naringin in apples.

Breast Cancer
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

Colon Cancer
One study found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 43 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Other research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Liver Cancer Prevention
Research has found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 57 percent lower risk of liver cancer.

Power of Lemons – Fresh lemons have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers. Lemons are also used as a weight loss aid as lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons contain many healthful substances–notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene–that promote immunity and fight infection. The most valuable ingredient of lemon, next to vitamin C, is citric acid, of which it contains 7.2 percent. Lemon contains more potassium than apples or grapes, which makes its juice beneficial to the heart.

Power of wheatgrass

  • Increases and sustains energy naturally
  • Detoxifies and cleanses your body
  • High alkalinity helps balance your body’s pH level
  • Strengthens your immune system
  • Insoluble fiber gently cleanses your digestive tract and promotes regularity
  • Complete food with enzymes and all essential amino acids
  • Natural source of antioxidants to help repair damaged cells
  • Excellent source of beta-carotene, folic acid, and vitamin C

Be sure to add this amazingly healthy smoothie to your weekly repertoire of different smoothie concoctions. Be sure to not have the raw spinach more than 3 days in a row. You can change out other greens on the alternate days.

Wishing you life health and happiness

Bobby

Healing Disease – Creative Health Institute (CHI) Approved Video Interview

Dr. Gary Tunsky, Healing Disease- Part 1

http://youtu.be/rbkz9dPOftM

My Toughts About Cellular Malfunction

Here is something to think about… Could all diseases and sicknesses be based in cellular malfunction? I have listed 10 reasons that I feel lend some credence to this train of thought.

Dr Ann Wigmore taught us that all disease is based in deficiency and toxicity. If this is true then it makes sense the first thing to suffer the effects of deficiency and toxicity would be our cells. What do you think; Could the detox rebuild program that we do here at Creative Health Institute (CHI) that includes wheat grass, living foods, rejuvelac, fermented foods, pure alkaline water, fresh clean air, proper rest at the right time, exercise and a positive-loving mental attitude change how a cell replicates and presents itself in our bodies?

1. There are 243 different types of cells that come in all shapes and sizes.
2. They are the bricks and mortar from which all living tissue and organs and systems are made.
3. Your body (tissue, organs and systems) is made up of more than 75 trillion of these cells.
4. You (spirit-brain) is given sole responsibility for every one of these 75 trillion plus cells health and welfare.
5. You have the greatest of responsibilities, as only you can guarantee the health and safety of every cell.
6. When you take charge of the situation, by providing proper guidance and direction every cell will answer to your commands.
7. Every second 10’s of millions of cells are reborn, creating amino acids, vitamins, hormones, neurotransmitters, enzymes and adenosinetriphosphate (ATP – cellular energy), all await your direction.
8. An almost endless army of cellular workers along with the bricks and mortar you will ever need to self generate a healthy body are under your command.
9. So, a strong healthy body can only originate at the cellular level and must be given the proper information and substance to do so.
10. So, a sick and diseased body can only originate at the cellular level and must be given improper information and harmful substance to do so.

Wishing you and your family the best year ever.

Testimonials: June 2011

A Testimony From Velisa of Hobart, In.

Velisa has been at Creative Health Institute for seven days.  Before coming to Creative Health Institute, Velisa had been fighting breast cancer with traditional western medicine and she was not happy with the results. She will graduate with her 10-Day Detox Certificate on Sunday and she has experienced some amazing changes in the past few days.

” I would definitely recommend (CHI) to other people — the camaraderie, the love and the best part about it is they are not being paid to do what they do. They are sharing and loving toward the guests that come here and it is a life-altering experiencing, a life-changing experience. In society you think  people just don’t care anymore but when you come here, you find that there are still caring, loving and concerned people.”

“When I first came I had two lumps, one in my upper left chest and one in the sternum. By Day 3 the one in my upper left chest had gone down.  It had been about the size of a small egg, now – it is about the size of a quarter.

Velisa, who has had a double mastectomy and undergone two rounds of chemotherapy as well as 65 radiation treatments, was told by her doctor that the lumps were still spots of cancer. The doctor also told her that chemotherapy would no longer prolong her life.

The Raw Living Foods Lifestyle has given her a new hope — and a new energy for life.

“My body feels extremely good. Not only did the program transform my natural body. It was also a mental transformation. It reminds me of the bible where it says, ‘Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.’

“Bobby has taught me how to transform my eating habits to transform my body so my body can heal itself.”

A Testimony From Tim of Peoria, Il.

“My blood pressure went down more than 50 points and I lost nearly 13 pounds in four days… The techniques being introduced of ways to maintain your body and how to care for your body are very helpful… When I had a colonic she said some of that stuff that came out of me had been in there for 20 years. I feel so much lighter and so much healthier and it was an opportunity to meet so many healthier people… I have been given a new lease on life. I want to look forward not back.”

Another testimony from Russ, of Marshall, Mi:

“The day I walked into the Creative Health Institute… well, I actually was hobbling for all of my joints and muscles were so painful, it would bring me to tears if I moved just right. Suffering from high levels of metal toxicity made me very sick and grumpy and I knew in my heart something had to be done. I signed up for the five-day detox program and didn’t know what to expect but understood if I wanted real results, I would have to follow the Ann Wigmore program to the Tee. Let me not mislead anyone, the first three days were very difficult but the support I had from the staff and others who were taking the program offered a hope of a newly sprouting seed and kept my head in the game. On the fourth day when I woke in the morning, I actually sprang out of bed and started moving about the room getting ready for the day and then realized… holy cow! my feet, ankles, knees and hips were virtually pain free! My range of motion had also greatly increased. My heartburn had vanished. My brain seemed to be bright and fogless.  On top of all that good stuff I had lost almost twelve pounds in toxic body weight in five days! Thank you, Ann! Thank you all at Creative Health Institute, for this truly has been a life-changing and educational experience for me.”

A testimony from Julia of Marshall:

“I just completed the 5-day detox at Creative Health Institute and have never felt this vibrant and healthy since childhood. The time I spent at CHI was transforming in the most positive way.  It is a place that overflows with love, giving of self, gratitude, positive energy, health, healing and life. Every day I felt more vibrant, alive and radiant and already after the second day I was excited to get out of bed and feel the blessings of the day. The lethargy I felt from eating the foods I had been eating prior to coming to CHI was eliminated immediately and my energy remained high throughout the day. Minor skin irritations/rashes I had battled with for the last month disappeared within 24 hours from entering the doors at CHI. The staff was so unbelievably inspiring — not only through learning about their own healings but also with their unselfish love and positive support they gave to the guests and their own colleagues. Thank you, thank you, thank you CHI for existing, for giving, for teaching and for life. You will forever be a part of my life.”

Learning to Live the Robust Raw Life

Ann Hartenbach of Winneconne Wisconsin had a gentle epiphany on Thursday after breakfast.

It was the day something shifted inside Ann, who has lost 18 pounds since arriving at Creative Health Institute May 1. Following the 10-Day-Detox Program she participated in, Ann became an intern. And this week she’s been getting experience preparing food in our raw kitchen.

She had been through detox programs at CHI in the past and reaped emotional, spiritual and physical rewards from them.  The 10-Day Detox she went through this month was extremely beneficial, too. But the experience she has been gaining behind the scenes in the kitchen since her internship began is really what’s helping Ann take her raw living foods lifestyle to another level.

“The kitchen supervisors create confidence and show how easy the lifestyle can be,” Ann said. “I feel I can go home now and know  what to buy and how long to keep it.”

Ann’s new-found confidence in the kitchen helped her to look at a bowl of leftover oatmeal from breakfast and see a future batch of oatmeal cookies. Before long, Ann was mixing together ingredients from an oatmeal cookie recipe developed for Creative Health Institutes own Master Chef and creator of the Raw Chef Level 1 Certification Class, Bobby Morgan.

Her cookies were a huge hit and other interns were eating them right out of the dehydrator.

It was her first batch of raw cookies. Now that she realizes it’s just as simple to make raw cookies as it is to make baked cookies, Ann expects to be doing quite a bit of “un”baking.

Ann recommends the CHI internship program for budding raw foodists who want to learn more at an accelerated pace.

And for those who can’t commit three months for an internship, she still recommends  the 10-Day Detox program.

“The detox is more than just losing weight. It clears toxins leaving you with a clear head and lighter feeling, ” Ann said.

She is so grateful for all she is learning at Creative Health Institute — and for her new confidence to continue the lifestyle when she returns home.

“Good tasting healthy food is in abundance,” Ann said. “Healthy food does not have to be without flare, spice and richness.”

Here’s what a few recent guests said about our 10-Day Detox Program…

“I am so grateful for my experience at CHI! I learned so much about food and how it can really affect your health. I always ate from the Standard American Diet and now I am much more aware of the health benefits from eating raw food so everyday I try to make better choices. It’s not easy but I learned there that I want to ‘Eat to live, not live to eat.’ And I met so many great people and I can’t wait to visit again.”
~ Suzette, Wheaton, Illinois
***

“The 10 day detox was very educational, motivating, and an uplifting experience. I learned that healing can and does happen from within and with the foods we put into our bodies. It is so important to be aware of this because in the long run it will save our lives. Not only have I made significant changes for my own health and lifestyle but, have passed this knowlege onto my loved ones so they will have a greater chance of good health. CHI is truly a place of love and you feel it the minute you enter the doors and if anyone has an opprotunity to stay they should, regardless of a health issue or not.”

Research Studies – Diet & Nutrition

VERIFIED FORMAL LARGE-SCALE

HUMAN DIET & NUTRITION STUDIES

The China Study
(Vegetarian & Vegan):  The New York Times called it  “The Grand Prix” of nutritional studies. From 1983-89, the China Study  engaged the most comprehensive and strictest epidemiological nutrition study ever conducted. Tracking participants in 65 Chinese provinces the study documented their eating habits. An international team of researchers from from Cornell University, Oxford University, and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine have given us major insight as to how diet affects our health. The study definitively proves,  eating less meat lowered the risks of major chronic diseases. The number of calories, the mix of protein and carbohydrates all mattered much less than the amount of meat based protein consumed. This larger study goes beyond the findings of other diet and nutrition studies. Correlating 800 different nutritional factors, the study shows that the intake of plant-based protein in every region of China correlated with good health and the intake of animal protein with ill chronic health or the common chronic diseases of modern times.

The Seventh-Adventist Study

(Vegetarian/Vegan): Begun in 1959 and sponsored by Loma Linda University, this tracked the lives of 22,940 Seventh-Day Adventists in California. It has a five-year formal and 25 year informal follow up. The Seventh-Adventist study showed that there was a 7.3 year longer life-expectancy average for men (and women 4.4). Similar statistics were tracked in Norway, Finland and Holland to show longer life expectancy and lower risk of most all chronic ailments. This large population of Seventh-Day Adventists who were vegetarian had significant lower cancer rates of all types as well as of all cardiovascular diseases, and as compared to even non-smoking non-Adventists. Vegan (stricter than vegetarian) eaters raised the bar. They had still lower blood pressure, LDL levels, obesity and premature death and overall chronic ailments. See: Diet, Life Expectancy, and Chronic Disease: Studies of Seventh-Day Adventists and Other Vegetarians by Gary E. Fraser.

The European Epic Study
The EPIC STUDY recruited over a half-million individuals in ten European countries for a massive and diverse nutritional study. It is led by Dr Elio Riboli, Head of the Division of Epidemiology at the Imperial College in London. “Only a fraction of the available data has been computerized thus far, but that which has suggests that vegetarians and vegans are generally lighter and less likely to be obese than meat eaters.”  The study is showing that obesity play a large part  in the development of many degenerative diseases, especially diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular ailments. Other preliminary findings include that a diet high in fruits and vegetables reduces the risk of pre-mature death by 20%. Also see the official EPIC site for more information.

The Oxford Vegetarian Study

Vegetarian & Vegan): The Oxford Study observed 6,000 vegetarian and 5,000 non-vegetarians, and covering a longer span of time in a formal study, namely 12 years. This confirmed lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other degenerative disease. The mortality figures were even more dramatic than the Seventh-Day Adventist study. The Pub-Med abstract reports“all-cause mortality in the whole cohort was roughly half that in the population of England and Wales.” Vegans had still lower LDL levels than fish-eating vegetarians. A followup Oxford studyshowed a lower rate of emergency appendectomies, indicative of acute apendicitis) among the vegetarian subjects.

The Pritikin Study
(Mostly Vegetarian): Since the 1950’s, over 90 studies have shown the advantages of a dietary approach (mostly low-fat, whole grains, fruits and vegetables) with animal proteins restricted to one serving a day or less! If animal protein is allowed willd fish is always preferable to even organic, free range poultry and red meat is not a part of the program and is not to be eaten more than once a month.  An analysis of almost 4,600 patients showed an across the board improvement in heart disease risk factors. The average 23% drop in LDL levels within 3 weeks and an average 33% drop in triglycerides. Also 14 more studies confirm the above or show the effects of using the Pritikin type diet against high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer prevention, and metabolic diseases. These include a 45% reduction in prostate cancer cell growth, lower blood pressure and control of diabetes. Keep in mind, 1000’s of students who have attended Creative Health Institute over years have been able to duplicate and even exceed the results shown in all of the aforementioned studies.

OTHER LARGE STUDIES

Harvard’s Pooling Project of Prospective Studies of Nutrition and Canceroffers a meta-analysis of over 28 large-scale nutritional studies. This includes a Harvard Study of 50,000 health professionals It showed that men who ate meat as their main dish 5 or more times a week tended to have 4X the risk of colon cancer. Heavy meat eaters were 2X as prone to have prostate cancer. Over a hundred studies have been published based on this Harvard study of male health professionals.

The Nurses Health Study

Started in 1976 and expanded in 1986, this study surveyed the nutritional status of 238,000. Women consuming over 95 gm protein/day had a 22% increased risk of forearm fracture compared with women consuming less than 68 gm/day. The increased risk of osteoporotic fractures was seen for animal protein but not for vegetable protein.

The Framingham Study

(All Diets) )The Framingham study began in 1948, recruited 5209 men and women between the ages of 30 and 62 years of age who had not yet developed overt cardiovascular disease or suffered a heart attack or stroke. Satellite studies have since recruited more than twice as many. Among the findings of risk factors were high HDL cholesterol, inactivity, smoking, and obesity. Also low LDL cholesterol levels indicated decreased risk. Other factors, like calcium deposits, thickening and hardening of the arteries also need to be considered for life-time risk past age 50.

Two Systems Of Medicine

At Creative Health Institute, we focus on teaching our students how to approach illness and disease from the broadest view possible. Learning this view is many times met with some resistance due to the contemporary medical model (allopathic) which is built largely on the contagion theory of disease and the suppression of symptoms, with the use of prescription medications.

The holistic  curriculum we use in our classes teaches our students that most illness and disease is usually the result of multiple causes (both internal and external), and therefore they must learn to approach illness and disease from a multi-dimensional approach which take into account the body, mind, emotions and spirit

We know that when we nourish our bodies with a diet high in natural raw living foods our bodies will respond and naturally detoxify and that the nutritional deficiencies which may have played a part in our illness or disease will be replaced with health and wellness. When we combine this type of natural eating with physical exercise, breathing exercises, prayer/meditation and relaxation we give our bodies the opportunity to heal and overcome illness and disease.  In some instances, when illness or disease has stressed our bodies system in a manner that makes it difficult to properly assimilate natural raw living food nourishment, we may decide to utilize herbs and supplements to nourish our bodies so we can bring them back into balance. Keeping our bodies systems in balance serves to protect us from sickness and disease. Below are a comparison of the allopathic and holistic health views.

CHI DETOX – Family Style

Jimmy Ehrhart, 15

Jessica Ehrhart, 12

Standing in front of a small group of Creative Health Institute guests with a Sharpie in hand and a smile on his face, Jimmy Ehrhart, 15, recorded numbers on a large pad of paper propped upon an easel.

“I feel great right now,” Jimmy told the other guests who were going through a 10-day detox with him. It was the beginning of Day 8 and relief had come for Jimmy and others who had experienced the typical uncomfortable symptoms people have when they withdraw from sugar, caffeine, high-protein and high-fat foods.  “I feel better than I have ever felt—honestly.”

The Camden, Michigan, teen was front-and-center for the morning and happy about the progress everybody was making  with the detox. Jimmy came to CHI with his younger sister, older brother, mother and grandfather. All of them wanted to make significant changes to their diets and health. They decided to go raw after reading books such as Victoria Boutenko’s Raw Family and watching videos including Thirty Days Raw.  Now that their detox at CHI is nearly complete, the family agrees visiting our nutritional education center in Hodunk, Michigan,  has been one of the the best things they’ve ever done together.

Jessica Ehrhart, 12, said she plans to spread the word about the great time she’s had with her family and new friends at  Creative Health Institute.

“I would like to see lots of families come here. I wish everyone in the world could do it because then everyone would just be healthy,” Jessica said. “Fast foods are gross!”

After seeing the videos and reading the books his mother exposed the family to in preparation of their detox, Jimmy still was a bit skeptical about how much a raw food diet could affect him. He was willing to give raw living foods a try because he had some health concerns and wanted to see what a difference the Ann Wigmore way of life could make. Jimmy said for several years he has suffered from asthma, allergies, trouble sleeping, snoring and being overweight.  It’s been tough for him to join the fun and games kids his age typically enjoy.

“I couldn’t play sports.  My friends, they all try to run around town and I have a hard time keeping up to them with the asthma, ” Jimmy said. “It is embarrassing to stay over a friend’s house because I snore so loud.”

Now Jimmy feels a new hope and expects he’ll be able to participate more fully in teenage activities he sees others enjoy.  His snoring stopped right away. He’s been sleeping well every night and his asthma hasn’t been bothering him at all.  He’s been exercising every day and says he feels hopeful that he’ll be able to keep up with his friends in basketball, football and baseball. He has always tried to participate in sports but due to his health issues he has spent most of his time on the bench.

Jimmy also had a problem with food allergies.  He said he especially seemed to be allergic to nuts, particularly cashews. At CHI he has found he can eat all different kinds of nuts without any allergic reaction. He said he believes it’s because he had been eating nuts that were not organic and all of the food at the center is organic.  He said he was really happy to learn that eating a raw food diet doesn’t mean a life-sentence of “boring salads.” He was especially impressed with a raw cashew-cheese-based blueberry cheesecake an intern made one night for a CHI guest who was celebrating her birthday during the detox.

Jessica said all along she was excited to come to the Creative Health Institute with her family. She said she knew she needed to make some changes in her life and she was ready to move forward.

“I would like to improve my asthma and coming here definitely helped it,” she said. “I was always on the couch. I couldn’t breathe so I always had to have an inhaler wherever I went. It is really horrible.”

Jessica hasn’t had to use her inhaler once during the 10-day detox.  On day eight she reported feeling better than she has felt in a very long time. She said she has “tons” of energy and now she can breath without wheezing — something she hasn’t been able to do since she was a small child.

One of Jessica’s favorite things about the 10-day detox at CHI has been the cooking lessons. Jessica helped make marinara sauce to serve at dinner one night and she said she was surprised by how simple and tasty it was. She also has enjoyed rebounding (jumping on a miniature trampoline) in the morning and sitting in the banya (our Russian-style sauna). She said she really wants to come back for the raw chef classes to learn how to make gourmet raw living foods.

Jimmy and Jessica’s mother, Kimberly Ehrhart, said she’s very happy her family came to CHI together to detox with raw living food. She’s eager for her next visit and suggesting to staff that she’d like to see a CHI reunion for guests in the summer.

“I would highly suggest the 10-day detox,” Kimberly said.  “It’s more than cleansing for your body and mind, and it’s more than just new relationships — it’s family.”

Most Of Us Love New Year’s Eve. It’s a wonderful Time To Reflect & Imagine What Could Be…

It’s a New Year; a Fresh Start!

Now is the perfect opportunity to reflect and re-evaluate life. As we reflect on the past year, we naturally reassess our priorities – those individual behaviors that have been ‘working’ for us as opposed to those that haven’t.

“Happy New Year” offers a collective moment in unison with all of humanity as we come together with mutual desire to create positive change within ourselves, which most definitely creates positive changes in the life forces of our planet as a whole. Each second in which we encourage others to achieve their own objectives we reaffirm our own (and visa versa). Still, change itself is a personal quest.

The great news is, your change is all about you!

As you consider what’s working for you in your life and what isn’t, consider your health. How do you feel right now? Are you eating a diet of raw living foods or one that is high in raw living foods? If you’re eating foods that don’t provide you with the all natural nutrients your body deserves, then you probably notice the difference in how you feel.

January 1, 2011 – Today, I begin nourishing my body and soul.

Now is the time to make your change. Recommit yourself to living your life at the highest level possible. Enjoy the heath and spiritual benefits which go hand-in-hand with making raw living foods a major part of your diet… your health… your life!

Vegan Diet Out Scores American Diabetes Associations Recommended Diet

J Am Diet Assoc. 2008 Oct;108(10):1636-45.

Changes in nutrient intake and dietary quality among participants with type 2 diabetes following a low-fat vegan diet or a conventional diabetes diet for 22 weeks.

CONCLUSIONS: Vegan diets increase intakes of carbohydrate, fiber, and several micronutrients, in contrast with the American Diabetes Association recommended diet. The vegan group improved its AHEI score whereas the American Diabetes Association recommended diet group’s AHEI score remained unchanged.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Although vegan diets improve diabetes management, little is known about the nutrient profiles or diet quality of individuals with type 2 diabetes who adopt a vegan diet.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the changes in nutrient intake and dietary quality among participants following a low-fat vegan diet or the 2003 American Diabetes Association dietary recommendations.

DESIGN: A 22-week randomized, controlled clinical trial examining changes in nutrient intake and diet quality.

SUBJECTS/SETTING: Participants with type 2 diabetes (n=99) in a free-living setting.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Participants were randomly assigned to a low-fat vegan diet or a 2003 American Diabetes Association recommended diet.

MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Nutrient intake and Alternate Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) scores were collected at baseline and 22 weeks.

STATISTICAL ANALYSES PERFORMED: Between-group t tests were calculated for changes between groups and paired comparison t tests were calculated for changes within-group. Pearson’s correlation assessed relationship of AHEI score to hemoglobin A1c and body weight changes.

RESULTS: Both groups reported significant decreases in energy, protein, fat, cholesterol, vitamin D, selenium, and sodium intakes. The vegan group also significantly reduced reported intakes of vitamin B-12 and calcium, and significantly increased carbohydrate, fiber, total vitamin A activity, beta carotene, vitamins K and C, folate, magnesium, and potassium. The American Diabetes Association recommended diet group also reported significant decreases in carbohydrate and iron, but reported no significant increases. The vegan group significantly improved its AHEI score (P<0.0001), while the American Diabetes Association recommended diet group did not (P=0.7218). The difference in AHEI score at 22 weeks between groups was significant (P<0.0001). With both groups combined, AHEI score was negatively correlated with both changes in hemoglobin A1c value (r=-0.24, P=0.016) and weight (r=-0.27, P=0.007).

CONCLUSIONS: Vegan diets increase intakes of carbohydrate, fiber, and several micronutrients, in contrast with the American Diabetes Association recommended diet. The vegan group improved its AHEI score whereas the American Diabetes Association recommended diet group’s AHEI score remained unchanged.

Sleep is a Necessity … Not a Luxury At Creativee Health Institute

Here at Creative Health all of our students are taught how to incorporate good sleep habits and how to identify which natural non habit forming sleep aids will assist them and others in their healing journeys.  We know,  for our bodies to overcome physical stresses we need to feed ourselves living foods combined with proper rest. These two elements are the basis for boosting the bodies immune system and putting the brakes on illnesses and disease that stress the body.

The Center for Disease Control has adopted the slogan, “Sleep is a necessity … not a luxury” and has even implemented a viral e-card campaign on the Internet to spread the word.

Are you getting by with 5 to 6 hours of sleep or less per night? Have you convinced yourself you can function just fine on this small amount of of sleep?

The National Sleep Foundation has noted that the need for sleep changes as we age, but as a general guideline, adults need at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep during every 24 hour period. Sleep is when our body rebuilds muscle, calms nerves, balances hormones and does overall repair to the damages that  physical and mental stresses our body systems have endured during our waking hours.

30% to 50%  of north Americans are getting insufficient sleep. Pour sleeping habits and insomnia weaken the immune system, brings on depression, aches and pains, weight gain,  lowered mental capabilities,  confusion, irritability, headaches and even death.

Best Life Ever!

A Dozen Great Reasons Why We Do Lymphatic Exercise At Creative Health Institute

A Dozen Great Reasons Why We  Do Lymphatic Exercise At Creative Health Institute

Lymphacizing” – Lymphatic Exercise for Vibrant Health…  Mention the heart or the cardiovascular system and most people have a pretty good idea of what that is and how it functions. Mention the lymphatic system which is vitally important to our health and you will find most people don’t understand much about it; Some have not even heard of it. The lymph system is interactive with every organ, and is directly related to immune function and efficiency.

  1. FUN FACTS ABOUT THE LYMPH SYSTEM
It is a protector and a defense mechanism against infection, viruses, bacteria, fungi, and disease.
  2. The lymphatic system is not connected to the heart, so it has to rely upon some other activity to create the necessary pumping action it needs to circulate.
  3. It is comprised of fluid, vessels, ducts and various other organs and structures.
  4. It clears toxins, wastes, excess fluids, and infection from all tissues of the body through proper flow and drainage, but only if this essential system is functioning at its peak efficiency.
  5. Unlike the cardiovascular system which delivers life-giving oxygen and nutrients to all the organs and cells of the body, and is connected to a pump – the heart; The lymphatic system has no automatic pump.
  6. The lymphatic system is filled with millions of one-way valves that allow lymph fluid to flow in only one direction – usually upward, away from gravity. Almost anything that can stimulate the movement of lymph fluid inside the lymph vessels of the system is healthy, but the most efficient way to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid is rebounding.
  7.  The lymphatic system is  connected to every cell and organ of the body, but its function is completely different from that of the cardiovascular system. It is the “garbage collector”, the internal vacuum cleaner that sucks up metabolic garbage, toxins, and excess fluid from the extracellular fluid of every organ.
  8. If the lymph systems flow is impaired, the fluid becomes toxic. The parts of the body that rely on it for elimination become less efficient and sluggish as they fill with their own waste.
  9. The lymph system can becomea breeding ground for infection, whe it become sluggish
  10. When toxic lymph fluid enters the bloodstream, as is part of the normal process, infection can now spread to any organ or part of the body. Many viruses, bacteria, and parasites stay locked within the lymphatic system when these conditions are present. The result: physical ailments, degenerative disease, hastening of the aging process, even death.
  11. The three most important methods of lymphatic circulation are external massage, muscle activity, and vigorous exercise.
  12. Here at Creative Health Institute we do a half hour of rebounding every morning. Rebounding’s up and down rhythmic bouncing causes all of the one-way valves to open and close simultaneously, increasing lymph flow as much as fifteen times, during the simple half hour lymphasizing workout!
  13. Lymphasizing hels  the body eliminate foreign matter from one part of the body to another. Most of us thinks only about our eliminative organs, such as the bowels, kidneys, or lungs, but toxins also are elimated via  joints, lymph system and our larges organ the skin.

SYMPTOMS

Many people have a badly congested lymphatic system and don’t even know it. In the U.S., the lymphatic system is the most over-looked system of the human body. In Europe, stimulation of the lymph flow is the fourth most commonly prescribed medical treatment. Most US health-care practitioners seldom consider the lymphatic system’s critical role in preventing illness, or its importance to the overall healing process. Some of the organs that are part of the lymphatic system are lymph nodes, lymph veins, tonsils, adenoids, appendix, and the spleen… and you know what happens to those parts of the body whenever surgeons get close to them. Swollen glands, with which most of us are familiar, are symptomatic of blocked lymph nodes, which indicate a breakdown in the functioning of the lymphatic system. Other examples of congested lymphatics are: Allergies, chronic sinusitis, heart disease, eczema and other skin conditions, loss of energy, fibrocystic disease, chronic fatigue, repetitive parasitic infections, MS, edema, lupus, erythematosis, inflammation, high blood pressure, viral infections, puffy eyes, bacterial infections, low back pain, cancer, ear or balance problems, arthritis, headaches, cellulite, excessive sweating, obesity, and more! Rebound exercise is one of the most efficient exercises for stimulating lymph flow and thats why we meet every morning to”Lymphacizie.”

Wishing everyone the best health and lives filled with love and grace.

At Creative Health Institute We Say When Life Gives You A Lemon Add It To Your Energy Soup…

“When life gives you a lemon add it to your energy soup or at least… squeeze it, mix it with six ounces of (pure) water and drink it.”

Don’t let the bad press about lemons removing tooth enamel scare you into not enjoying these amazing juicy citrus delights. Tooth enamel is made of minerals and its ability to withstand acidic substances varies from person to person.  Lemon juice or any other acidic substance can set up an environment that causes de-mineralization and decay of tooth enamel.

Lemon juice’s high acidity, pH 2-3, is due to the high citric acid content of lemon juice. When eating any food  or drinking beverages with this high acidity your tooth enamel will start to dissolve.

So, pay attention to the way you are consuming lemon juice. If you put it in a cup of water, it will raise the pH from high acidic to a slightly acidic range of 5-7 pH. Eating lemons without the water put your tooth enamel at risk of rapidly decaying. Some people drink lemon juice through a straw to keep the juice off of their teeth. The best and easiest way to protect your tooth enamel is to always rinse  out your mouth after eating a lemon, you should do the same with any fruit juice or sugary beverage. By the way, soda pop, pasteurized juices,  and energy drinks have a much greater impact on your tooth enamel does than lemon juice. The average 16oz soft drink is so acid that it takes drinking at least 32 of the same size glasses of alkaline water to restore the the pH blance

My recommendation is that you never drink anything but pure water, fresh raw living fruit juices, vegetable juices and smoothies, lemons always make a tasty addition to any of these. So, why not make a lemon juice diet a part of your healthy lifestyle and enjoy the amazing health benefits you will receive by doing so. Here at creative health institute most of us drink lemon water everyday and it is added to our many of our energy soups and jucices  The natural cleansing benefits are nothing short of amazing.

I love the health classic, Back to Eden, in which author points out that, “The lemon is a wonderful stimulant to the liver and is a dissolvent of uric acid and other poisons, liquefies the bile, and is very good in cases of malaria. Sufferers of chronic rheumatism and gout will benefit by taking lemon juice, also those who have a tendency to bleed, uterine hemorrhages, rickets and tuberculosis. In pregnancy, it will help to build bone in the child. We find that the lemon contains certain elements which will go to build up a healthy system and keep that system healthy and well. As a food, we find, owing to its potassium content, it will nourish the brain and nerve cells. Its calcium builds up the bony structure and makes healthy teeth.

“Its magnesium, in conjunction with calcium, has an important part to play in the formation of albumen in the blood. The lemon contains potassium 48.3, calcium 29.9, phosphorus 11.1, magnesium 4.4. Lemons are useful in treating asthma, biliousness, colds, coughs, sore throat, diphtheria, la grippe [flu or influenza], heartburn, liver complaint[s], scurvy, fevers and rheumatism.”

Make this moment the best moment ever!

Because the pH scale is logarithmic, a one unit change in pH is associated with a 10 fold change in the acidity. For example, lemon juice has a pH of 2.0, while grapefruit juice has a pH of 3.0. Lemon juice would therefore be 10x as acidic as grapefruit juice. Even more enlightening, Coke Classic is roughly 100 times as acidic as Barq’s root beer.

Holistic or Allopathic: Which is The Best Aproach For Treating Disease And Illness?

At Creative Health Institute, we focus on teaching our students how to approach illness and disease from the broadest view possible. Often, Learning this view is met with some resistance due to the contemporary medical model (allopathic) which is built largely on the contagion theory of disease and the suppression of symptoms, with the use of prescription medications.

The holistic  curriculum we use in our classes teaches our students that most illness and disease is usually the result of multiple causes (both internal and external), and therefore they must learn to approach illness and disease from a multi-dimensional approach which take into account the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

We know that when we nourish our bodies with a diet high in natural raw living foods, our bodies will respond and naturally detoxify and that the nutritional deficiencies which may have played a part in our illness or disease will be replaced with health and wellness. When we combine this type of natural eating with physical exercise, breathing exercises, prayer/meditation and relaxation, we give our bodies the opportunity to heal and overcome illness and disease.  If, at any point, we can not  properly assimilate natural raw living food nourishment, we may decide to utilize herbs and supplements to nourish our bodies, so we can bring them back into balance.

6 Herbs That May Help Balance Your Cortisol Levels And Help You Lose Weight

6 Herbs To Help Balance Your Cortisol Levels

While cortisol is an important and helpful part of the body’s response to stress, it’s important that the body’s relaxation response to be activated so the body’s functions can return to normal following a stressful event. Unfortunately, in our current high-stress culture, the body’s stress response is activated so often that the body doesn’t always have a chance to return to normal, resulting in a state of chronic stress.

Higher and more prolonged levels of cortisol in the bloodstream (like those associated with chronic stress) have been shown to have negative effects, such as:

  • Impaired cognitive performance
  • Suppressed thyroid function
  • Blood sugar imbalances such as hyperglycemia
  • Decreased bone density
  • Decrease in muscle tissue
  • Higher blood pressure
  • Lowered immunity and inflammatory responses in the body, slowed wound healing, and other health consequences
  • Increased abdominal fat, which is associated with a greater amount of health problems than fat deposited in other areas of the body. Some of the health problems associated with increased stomach fat are heart attacks, strokes, the development of metabolic syndrome, higher levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and lower levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL), which can lead to other health problems!

At Creative Health Institute Our Students Are Taught How To Balance Cortisol Levels With These Herbs

  • Maca: This amazing herb/food is one of the most powerful adaptogens in the world. It increases oxygen levels in the blood, feed the adrenals and balances cortisol levels. This powerful herb is nontoxic and works at the root of the cortisol balancing problem, rather than masking symptoms.
  • Reishi Mushroom: Lowers cortisol as it reduces stress.   It’s very calming and actually performs like a sedative while improving adrenal gland function. When our adrenals are functioning properly, our cortisol levels will be balanced.
  • Holy Basil: This cortisol lowering herb does its job because it’s amazing for the immune system and anytime the immune system is strong then the body naturally reduces cortisol. Don’t skip this one.
  • Green Tea: Works to lower cortisol and stress because it’s extremely high in antioxidants and also minimizes the effects of environmental pollutants, inflammation and other forms of metabolic stress.
  • Rhodiola: A good adaptogenic herb, which helps to balance out the body. It’s also great for improving attention span, mood and mental clarity. Children who have been diagnosed with ADD or any other hyper activity disorder will benefit greatly from this herb.
  • Ginseng: Is a great adaptogenic herb which helps with strengthening our immune system and helps to overcome exhaustion due to psychological and physical stresses. This is a great herb to replace the false boost that is associated with drinking caffeinated drinks which create a physical imbalance and  increase cortisol levels.

Wishing all of our friends and alumni the best health ever.
