Let’s Lower The Risk of Heart Disease

Maybe it’s time to consider a novel approach to healing heart disease

Heart disease is a leading cause of death, but many forms are preventable by eating healthier and exercising regularly. Unfortunately, heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States. More than 600,000 Americans die from heart disease every year—that’s one person every 33 seconds! The good news is that many forms of heart disease are preventable through lifestyle changes such as eating healthier and being physically active.

Heart disease can be prevented by eating a diet rich in whole grains, legumes, or polyunsaturated fats. You can also reduce your risk by exercising regularly, such as walking or cycling, and shedding pounds if you’re overweight.

The American Heart Association recommends keeping our intake of saturated fat to no more than 7% of total daily calories. Any amount above that can eventually damage the arteries and lead to heart disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. It’s also a leading cause of disability, affecting more people than all forms of cancer combined. In addition, cardiovascular disease can lead to heart attack or stroke, which are life-threatening conditions that require immediate medical attention.

Research has shown that vegans and vegetarians tend to have lower cholesterol levels than non-vegetarians and also a reduced risk of heart disease. A vegan diet is typically high in fiber and antioxidants, both associated with lower cholesterol levels. Fiber helps you feel full faster and longer, so it’s a good idea to eat plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables daily.

Analysis of studies involving more than 70,000 people found that Vegan and Vegetarian diets are associated with a reduced risk of death from ischemic heart disease and stroke. Vegan diets are also linked to lower blood pressure levels, lower rates of type 2 diabetes, and a reduced risk of certain cancers. A vegan diet can be challenging to follow if you don’t plan ahead because many foods are made with animal products.

A large-scale study involving more than 125,000 people found that those who consumed more animal protein were at an increased risk of heart disease compared with those who ate less. Moreover, vegan and vegetarian diets are linked to lower rates of this disease compared with omnivorous diets. A vegan diet can be challenging to follow if you don’t plan ahead because many foods are made with animal products. If you decide to go vegan, discuss your plans with your doctor so he or she can help ensure that you get all the nutrients you need compared with omnivorous diets.

Latest Studies Show Glutathione Fights Degenerative Diseases

Please take the time to read this short article it could save your life.

Today almost 1 out of every 3 Americans is suffering from some degenerative disease. The two significant culpurts, cancer, and heart disease now kills more than a million people each year here in the states.

Scientific studies and are showing that these diseases in part are related to a deficiency in glutathione.  Glutathiones job is to neutralize toxins, and protect our bodies from illness, increase our longevity by guarding our cells from oxidative stress. As we get older, our glutathione levels significantly decrease, while degenerative diseases increase.

Glutathione is produced in the liver and found in every cell of the body. It is composed of the amino acids (glycine, glutamine, and cysteine). Glutathione works by binding to harmful free radicals while it supports the function of the T-cells – which are needed to ensure a healthy and balanced an immune system which assists in DNA repair.

Foods That Increase Glutathione Production

  • Veggies loaded with Sulfur. Broccoli, cauliflower, kale, onions, garlic, and shallots
  • Fruits packed with vitamin C. Areola cherries, citrus, cantaloupe, kiwi, mango, papaya, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, and watermelon.
  • Eat selenium-rich foods like brazil nuts. For those of you who are meat-eaters eat it sparingly and make sure it’s naturally environmentally farm-raised organic, beef, buffalo, chicken, and fish.
  • I also like to supplement with herbs when necessary using selenium, milk thistle, and Tumeric.
  • Though not a food getting a good night’s sleep is very important for the assimilation of these foods to help the liver make the Glutathione.

Wishing you good health and every blessing. Bobby

SMOOTHIES

Super Health Restorer Smoothie Recipe

Make This Smoothie Work For You As It Cleanses, Detoxes, Rejuvenates And Rebuilds Your Body.

  • 2 cups of probiotic-enzymatic liquid
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 10 strawberries
  • 1 mango
  • 2 apples
  • 1 banana
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 ounce of wheatgrass

Power of Spinach – Spinach nutrition is amazing. The calcium content in spinach and the other dark leafy greens mentioned above strengthens bones.

The A and C vitamins in spinach plus the fiber, folic acid, magnesium and other nutrients help control cancer, especially colon, lung, and breast cancers. Folate also lowers the blood levels of something called homocysteine, a protein that damages arteries. So spinach also helps protect against heart disease. The flavonoids in spinach help protect against age-related memory loss. Spinach’s secret weapon, lutein, makes it one of the best foods in the world to prevent cataracts, as well as age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of preventable blindness in the elderly. Foods rich in lutein are also thought to help prevent cancer.

Power of Strawberries – Strawberries have higher levels of vitamin c, fiber, folate and potassium than most other fruits like bananas, apples and even oranges.

Apart from the obvious health benefits, a recent study by Dr. Gene Spiller, Nutrition, and Health Research Center has shown that eating one serving (about 8-10 strawberries) a day can significantly decrease blood pressure, which may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Other studies showed additional benefits: Strawberries are found to reduce the risk of cancer, enhance memory function and rheumatoid arthritis.

Power of Mangos – Mangos are super fruits! Succulent sweet tropical delights high in Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Potassium, Copper and Vitamin A.  According to a new research study, mango has been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. Several trial studies suggest that polyphenolic anti-oxidant compounds in mango are known to offer protection against breast and colon cancers, as well.

Power of Apples – French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones. Another study shows that children with asthma who drank apple juice on a daily basis suffered from less wheezing than children who did not drink apple juice on a regular basis.onth. Another study at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer’s disease.  When we eat apples we can lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. Studies have shown that people who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent.

Power of Apples & Cancer Prevention

Lung Cancer
According to a study of 10,000 people, those who ate the most apples had a 50 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer. Researchers believe this is due to the high levels of the flavonoids quercetin and naringin in apples.

Breast Cancer
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

Colon Cancer
One study found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 43 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Other research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Liver Cancer Prevention
Research has found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 57 percent lower risk of liver cancer.

Power of Lemons – Fresh lemons have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers. Lemons are also used as a weight loss aid as lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons contain many healthful substances–notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene–that promote immunity and fight infection. The most valuable ingredient of lemon, next to vitamin C, is citric acid, of which it contains 7.2 percent. Lemon contains more potassium than apples or grapes, which makes its juice beneficial to the heart.

Power of wheatgrass

  • Increases and sustains energy naturally
  • Detoxifies and cleanses your body
  • High alkalinity helps balance your body’s pH level
  • Strengthens your immune system
  • Insoluble fiber gently cleanses your digestive tract and promotes regularity
  • Complete food with enzymes and all essential amino acids
  • Natural source of antioxidants to help repair damaged cells
  • Excellent source of beta-carotene, folic acid, and vitamin C

Be sure to add this amazingly healthy smoothie to your weekly repertoire of different smoothie concoctions. Be sure to not have the raw spinach more than 3 days in a row. You can change out other greens on the alternate days.

Wishing you life health and happiness

Will An Eating Related Disease And The High Costs Off Conventional Medicine Consume Your Income And Steal What You Save For Your Retirement?

Will Eating-Related Diseases Plus The High Cost Of Conventional Medicine Consume Your Income And Steal What You Save For Retirement?

A True Thanksgiving Story- I just returned from visiting my parents, family and friends over the Thanksgiving holiday. On Wednesday evening, my parents and other family members had prepared a pre- Thanksgiving Day dinner consisting of ham and all the trimmings.

I watched as the men in the family consumed foods that were loaded with fats, cholesterol and sugar. By the end of the dinner, one of my relatives breathing was labored, my father was exhausted, and just past midnight my 50 year old brother had a major stroke and was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. This is one Thanksgiving we won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

Sadly, both my father and my brother had already experienced heart and circulatory disease that required major surgeries, consisting of several stints implanted into their bodies, to keep them alive.  These two men, whom I admire in so many ways, are by the world’s standard two very bright and successful individuals. So, why do two intelligent people keep eating food that is killing them?

Both my dad and brother say they are pretty much following the kind of eating program that their doctors recommend for patients with heart and circulatory disease and both of them are sure their doctors would tell them the right thing to do- after all their doctors knows what’s best for them. (Oh I almost forgot, we came close to loosing my wonderful father, as he had a stroke this past February).

Well, anyway, why would my family and friends listen to me?  I’m not a Doctor; I’m just a cancer survivor who believes I am here to tell this story, because my surviving the cancer and keeping it a bay is based on my eating a 99% raw living food diet- a diet consisting of daily drinks of wheatgrass accompanied by rejuvelac and eating meals that blend, combining my food in the proper proportions, so every ounce of food I take in nourishes my body and strengthens my immune system.

Over the last few years, whenever I talk with my mom and dad about what’s going on in their lives, we always seem to end up talking about their health and the costs of their medicine eating into their retirement.  I always try to gently weave the health benefits I have received from eating a raw living food diet and how it has saved me from the high costs associated with managing a disease like cancer.  My parents and friends have seen the positive changes in my body and how the raw living food lifestyle has reversed the damage that cancer brought into my life, saved me from spending what I make on medications and has enabled me to regain the years I lost, due to the disease.  It’s sad for me to say, but even with my family and friends being able to see how this diet has helped me regain my health, they are still blinded to the truth by the medical experts, media and their own historical eating habits.

Even in the face of illness, disability or even death, it appears most of my family and friends will continue eating the cholesterol laden meats and prepackaged foods, loaded with toxic substances, masked by sugar and salt, and hope for the best.

The Standard American Diet – What It Really Costs

A new study that details the price we may all pay for health care costs in retirement has just been released by the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). According to the report, a 55-year old couple today, that believe they will be able to safely retire in 10 years, will need to have saved a minimum of $655.000.00 to cover health care, high drug expense and  regular living costs including a vacation or two. This figure does not include any long-term care costs. (My parents were smart enough to buy the long-term health care insurance, which they are having now in their mid and late 70’s).

What about Medicare coverage? Well, the EBRI estimates are for all costs above and beyond Medicare. Here’s the clincher: EBRI feels their estimates probably underplay the actual costs!

I believe that a couple that adheres to a healthy high raw living food lifestyle (2/3rds raw) and excludes all meats and dairy and includes eating blended foods, juices and properly combined organic vegetables, leafy greens, sprouts, seed and nuts could substantially lower the amount they need to save for retirement. At a minimum, they would not have the high costs associated with drugs that treat only symptoms but can’t cure disease. They would find themselves enjoying the benefits of good health and longevity.

All Fat Is Not The Same

TUESDAY, Nov. 30 (HealthDay News) — Not only does extra weight around the middle increase a woman’s risk of heart disease and diabetes, new research suggests it also ups a woman’s risk of developing osteoporosis.

In a study of 50 premenopausal women of various sizes, Harvard researchers found that women who had more fat around the abdomen were more likely to have lower bone mineral density, which can eventually lead to osteoporosis.

All fat isn’t the same. Tummy fat has a damaging effect on bone health,” said the study’s lead author, Dr. Miriam Bredella, a radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an assistant professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Bredella was slated to present the findings Tuesday at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America in Chicago.

As many as 10 million Americans, most of them women, have osteoporosis, according to the U.S. National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). Another 34 million Americans have low bone mass, putting them at risk of developing osteoporosis, reports NIAMS.

Risk factors for osteoporosis include a deficiency in estrogen, a diet lacking in calcium and vitamin D, eating disorders, certain medications, a sedentary lifestyle, drinking too much alcohol and smoking, according to NIAMS.

But extra weight was previously believed to somewhat protect against bone loss, said Bredella.

The average body mass index (BMI) of the women recruited for the study was about 30, with scores ranging from 19 to 46. A BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered normal, while a BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight. A BMI of 30 or more is considered obese, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

All of the women underwent a special imaging technique called MRI spectroscopy that allowed the researchers to accurately measure fat deposits, including fat found in the bone marrow.

Women who had more visceral fat, meaning fat around the mid-section, were more likely to have a lower bone mineral density. In addition, an association between visceral fat and the levels of bone marrow fat was noted.

“Visceral fat is deep belly fat, and it’s been found to be bad for heart disease and diabetes. This type of fat releases fatty acids into the liver, and it also releases other substances and hormones that have an effect on the heart and the pancreas, and also probably on bones,” said Bredella. “But, we don’t know exactly what it is in visceral fat that causes problems.”

As for the increase in bone marrow fat, “a lot of bone marrow fat makes the bone weak,” Bredella said.

“This study is more bad news for obesity. The one good thing we thought obesity might do — protect the bones — isn’t true,” she added.

“This is a fascinating study that raises interesting and important questions,” said Dr. Judi Chervenak, an associate clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City.

“Being a healthy weight and trying to control visceral obesity is becoming important from so many different angles,” she stated. “You need to make lifestyle changes that focus on overall health and wellness, and exercise is very important for helping prevent osteoporosis and other illnesses. If you haven’t been moving, just try to get out and go for a walk. Ideally, you’ll work up to regular exercise, but get out and get some exercise,” she advised.

Bredella said the researchers are currently studying fat distribution and bone mineral density in men to see if the patterns hold true for both sexes.

6 Herbs That May Help Balance Your Cortisol Levels And Help You Lose Weight

6 Herbs To Help Balance Your Cortisol Levels

While cortisol is an important and helpful part of the body’s response to stress, it’s important that the body’s relaxation response to be activated so the body’s functions can return to normal following a stressful event. Unfortunately, in our current high-stress culture, the body’s stress response is activated so often that the body doesn’t always have a chance to return to normal, resulting in a state of chronic stress.

Higher and more prolonged levels of cortisol in the bloodstream (like those associated with chronic stress) have been shown to have negative effects, such as:

  • Impaired cognitive performance
  • Suppressed thyroid function
  • Blood sugar imbalances such as hyperglycemia
  • Decreased bone density
  • Decrease in muscle tissue
  • Higher blood pressure
  • Lowered immunity and inflammatory responses in the body, slowed wound healing, and other health consequences
  • Increased abdominal fat, which is associated with a greater amount of health problems than fat deposited in other areas of the body. Some of the health problems associated with increased stomach fat are heart attacks, strokes, the development of metabolic syndrome, higher levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and lower levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL), which can lead to other health problems!

At Creative Health Institute Our Students Are Taught How To Balance Cortisol Levels With These Herbs

  • Maca: This amazing herb/food is one of the most powerful adaptogens in the world. It increases oxygen levels in the blood, feed the adrenals and balances cortisol levels. This powerful herb is nontoxic and works at the root of the cortisol balancing problem, rather than masking symptoms.
  • Reishi Mushroom: Lowers cortisol as it reduces stress.   It’s very calming and actually performs like a sedative while improving adrenal gland function. When our adrenals are functioning properly, our cortisol levels will be balanced.
  • Holy Basil: This cortisol lowering herb does its job because it’s amazing for the immune system and anytime the immune system is strong then the body naturally reduces cortisol. Don’t skip this one.
  • Green Tea: Works to lower cortisol and stress because it’s extremely high in antioxidants and also minimizes the effects of environmental pollutants, inflammation and other forms of metabolic stress.
  • Rhodiola: A good adaptogenic herb, which helps to balance out the body. It’s also great for improving attention span, mood and mental clarity. Children who have been diagnosed with ADD or any other hyper activity disorder will benefit greatly from this herb.
  • Ginseng: Is a great adaptogenic herb which helps with strengthening our immune system and helps to overcome exhaustion due to psychological and physical stresses. This is a great herb to replace the false boost that is associated with drinking caffeinated drinks which create a physical imbalance and  increase cortisol levels.

Wishing all of our friends and alumni the best health ever.

Help For Your Heart

Keep in mind, once a person has been started on a drug therapy, it becomes more difficult to recommend an herb therapy that might also be of assistance,  largely because of fears that the herbs will interact with the drugs, disturbing the effectiveness of the drugs.  Further, most physician know little about herbs and are rightfully concerned about the herb ability to interact with the drugs they are administering.  If you are taking any prescribed medications, please check with you physician before incorporating these herbs into your lifestyle.

CAYENNE PEPPER

Cayenne pepper is a central circulatory stimulant. If you use cayenne on a regular basis you will improve the natural cleansing mechanism of your entire body, and this is particularly helpful in conditions of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and many other chronic illnesses. Cayenne nourishes the heart and helps arteries, veins and capillaries regain the elasticity of youth by feeding cell structure. It helps equalize circulation by regulating the flow of blood from the head to the feet and strengthens the pulse by increasing its power (not frequency) while lowering overall blood pressure.

GARLIC

Without a doubt, garlic (Allium sativa) provides the body with protection against cardiovascular sluggishness. Garlic is one of nature’s most studied and helpful herbs. Scientific trials reveal that it can lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, raise high-density lipoprotein levels (HDL, the good cholesterol), reduce the formation of plaque in carotid arteries and provide protection against aging in the all-important aorta–the cardiac blood vessel responsible for maintaining blood flow and pressure with every heartbeat.

HAWTHORN

Hawthorn is a plant which kept Brechnev alive for ten years. The Soviets know a lot about herbal medicine. Hawthorn is a regulator of the rhythm of the heart; it increases the force of contraction so that the output of blood from the heart is improved, and it’s a restorative of the heart muscle. We can use this to protect the heart against hypertension in the case of high blood pressure.

Hawthorn also prevents the buildup of cholesterol in the liver by encouraging the breakdown of cholesterol into bile acids. When used for a long period of time (weeks or months), extracts of hawthorn dilate blood vessels, including vessels of the coronary system, giving better blood flow through the heart and throughout the body. Hawthorn also affects intracellular calcium levels in the heart muscle, resulting in improved cardiac function and lowered spastic cardiac conditions.
