“It’s not 100% certain that consuming more or less of certain foods or nutrients will guarantee cancer protection,But science has found that certain dietary habits tend to have a greater influence.”
Fighting Cancer With Foods:
The foods we eat and their effect on cancer is in many ways is as mysterious as the disease itself. The latest research is showing us that there are many foods that help prevent certain types of cancer. Conversely there are also many foods that when eaten increase our chances of getting cancer.
We also know that genetics and environments play a role in cancer cases. The latest studies estimate that less than 30% of a person’s lifetime risk of getting cancer results from uncontrollable factors. Its my personal belief and that of many other Naturopaths that 70% of the factors that bring about cancer are under our control with diet, environment and attitude being the three areas that we can address and work on in conjunction with the allopathic and integrative cancer treatments.
I want to make it perfectly clear that I do not want you to choose diet as a treatment for cancer but to see it as more of a cause-and-effect relationship.
“It’s not 100% certain that consuming more or less of certain foods or nutrients will guarantee cancer protection,But science has found that certain dietary habits tend to have a greater influence,” according to Dr. Edward Giovannucci of Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Seven of My Favorite Cancer Fighting Foods
1 .Raw Cabbage or Sauerkraut: 1/2 cup three times weekly. The anticarcinogenic compounds in cabbage are called glucosinolates. Studies in Poland have shown that people who ate a lot of cabbage in their youth were 40% less likely to get breast or prostate cancer.
2. Raw Flaxseeds: 3 tablespoons daily, One tablespoon breakfast lunch and dinner. It is the lignans in flax that act like a weak estrogen, which can result in a 58% less risk of breast cancer.
3. Raw Reishi Mushrooms: 1/2 cup daily. Reishi mushrooms have a rich content of organic polysaccharides and triterpenes (known as ganoderic acid), which have been proven to enhance the body’s immune functions. In 1986, Dr. Fukumi Morishige, M.D., Ph.D, a renowned Japanese surgeon and a member of the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine, found that the active anti-cancer constituent in the reishi mushroom is a polysaccharide called beta-D-glucan, which is thought to stimulate or modulate the immune system by activating immune cells, as well as enhance the immunoglobulin levels to produce a heightened response to foreign cells. Two other studies which were completed in 2008 found reishi mushrooms, combined with green tea, creates a synergetic effect that inhibits the growth of tumors and delayed the time of death in mice with sarcomas.
4. Raw Olives& Olive Oil: 8-10 large olives daily, or 5 teaspoons of raw olive oil. Researchers in Europe have shown that DNA damage is associated with cancer risks. They measured the effects on DNA damage in 183 participants and found that in less than three weeks that those eating five teaspoons of uncooked olive oil had an average DNA damage decrease of 13 percent. This remarkable study shows the impact that the oil of olives have on cancer prevention can be comparable to the positive effect of completely quitting smoking.
5. Raw Pungent Onions: 1/2 cup five times times weekly. Researchers at Cornell University have found, in preliminary lab studies, that members of the onion family with the strongest flavor — particularly New York Bold, Western Yellow and shallots — are the best varieties for inhibiting the growth of liver and colon cancer. Onions were significantly better at inhibiting the growth of colon cancer cells than liver cancer cells, an indication that they are potentially better at fighting colon cancer. The potent antioxidant quercetin which is found in pungent onions, is linked to protection against cataracts, heart disease and now cancer.
6. Raw Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds: 1/4 cup daily. Raw sprouted pumpkin seeds play a great part in the prevention of cancer. Phytosterols contained in pumpkin seeds fight a number of different cancers such as breast, colorectal, gastric, lung and prostate. Pumpkin seeds are loaded with the powerful antioxidant Selenium. Selenium fights free radicals and kills cancer cells. Pumpkin seeds also contain Omega 3, another known cancer fighting ingredient.
7. Raspberries: 1 cup three to five times weekly. Researcher Christine Sardo of the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, says berries, particularly black raspberries, are loaded with ellagic acid–a phytochemical shown to inhibit the growth of cancer in laboratory studies. Researchers at Ohio State gave rats a cancer-causing compound and then fed some of the rodents a diet rich in black raspberries. After 30 weeks, the raspberry-eating rats showed a significant reduction in cancers of the mouth and esophagus and an 80 percent decrease in the number of tumors in the colon. Early results of a study involving people at high risk for esophageal cancer also show positive results. It’s not just the ellagic acid in berries that seems to fight cancer, says Sardo. “The numerous phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals and fiber may act together for disease prevention.”
According to Karen Collins, nutrition consultant to the American Institute for Cancer Research, ellagic acid provides “several different anti-cancer methods at once: It acts as an antioxidant, it helps the body deactivate specific carcinogens, and it helps slow the reproduction of cancer cells.”

Wheatgrass the elixir of life! 50 plus benefits of drinking wheatgrass juice.
“Until man duplicates a blade of grass, nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge.” Thomas A. Edison
Wheatgrass consumption for medicinal purposes has been in use for more than 5000 thousand years. The ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations, designated wheatgrass as a sacred plant that was used in more than 100 healing modalities. The Egyptians considered it the elixir of life, and the Chinese used it for blood detoxification.
List of 55 Specific Wheatgrass Benefits
A shot of wheatgrass is 70% chlorophyll, 12% water, 12% protein, 2% crude fiber, 2% fat, 1.8% minerals. Organically grown wheatgrass contains 92 of the 102 known minerals. Wheatgrass also contains 13 essential vitamins and minerals, and 20 plus amino acids are found in wheatgrass.
Dr. Ann Wigmore taught, when we drink wheatgrass juice, regularly we feel a positive difference in strength, endurance, health, and spirituality, and experience a sense of well-being.
The enzymes, amino acids, and chlorophyll in wheatgrass juice contain antibacterial compounds that are especially good at destroying anaerobic bacteria that thrive in oxygen-poor blood and tissue.
Science has proven that chlorophyll arrests growth and development of unfriendly bacteria. Because wheatgrass is 70% Chlorophyll, it makes short work of bacteria and can be used inside and outside the body as a healer.
Dr. Birscher, a research scientist, called the chlorophyll in wheatgrass “concentrated sun power.” He said, “Chlorophyll increases the function of the heart, affects the vascular system, the intestines, the uterus, and the lungs.”
Wheatgrass juice is great for blood disorders of all kinds, including anemia. A recent study in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that supplementing with the natural antioxidants found in wheatgrass “holds great promise in overcoming the ill effects of oxygen toxicity,.”
Today, we know wheatgrass is one of the most potent sources of living chlorophyll available.
Wheatgrass Juice reduces high blood pressure and enhances the capillaries.
Wheatgrass juice can be taken by a human or animal orally, vaginally, as a poultice and as a colon implant. Wheatgrass implants (enemas) are great for healing and detoxifying the colon walls. The implants also heal and cleanse the internal organs.
How to do wheatgrass implants – After doing a pure water enema, wait 10 minutes, and then implant 3-6 ounces of wheatgrass juice. Retain it for 20 minutes.
The chlorophyll in wheatgrass goes into the bloodstream, fills the tissues, extricates dying and diseased cell, making room for new healthy live cells, rejuvenating tissues, thus slowing the aging process.
The liquid chlorophyll in wheatgrass washes unwanted drug deposits from the body.
Wheatgrass combined with a raw living foods diet cures acne in days and removes scars after it has been ingested for six to eight months.
Wheatgrass juice acts as a detergent in the body and is used as a body deodorant.
A small amount of wheatgrass in the human diet helps prevents tooth decay.
The chlorophyll in the wheatgrass helps purify the liver.
Toxins in and on the body are more easily neutralized by the chlorophyll in wheatgrass.
Diabetics benefit from the chlorophyll in the wheatgrass as it balances blood sugar.
It is easily absorbed and carries high levels of oxygen and light energy to the body. Being loaded with chlorophyll and chlorophyll being the first product of light, therefore means wheatgrass contains massive amounts of light energy.
Chlorophyll is the lifeblood of wheatgrass and is quickly assimilated into our bodies and is just one molecule different in structure than our own blood.
Being loaded with oxygen wheatgrass helps us to think clearer as it feeds our brain, tissues, and organs with optimal levels of chlorophyll based oxygenated nutrients.
The amino acids in wheatgrass are absorbed directly into the blood and act to neutralize toxic substances like cadmium, nicotine, strontium, mercury and polyvinyl chloride (a type of plastic) by changing them into insoluble salts that the body can eliminate quickly, rejuvenating the tissues, thus slowing the aging process.
Wheatgrass also rebuilds the bloodstream. Studies of various animals have shown the chlorophyll in wheatgrass raises the red blood cell count. The red cell count was returned to normal within 4 to 5 days of the administration of chlorophyll, even in those animals which were known to be extremely anemic or low in red cell count.
Just soaking in a bathtub of wheatgrass bath for a ½ hour for each day for 5 days will raise the red blood cell count.
Dr. Ann Wigmore proved that wheatgrass takes only minutes to get digested and therefore uses up very little of the body’s energy.
Wheatgrass is also a powerful heavy metal detoxifier and studies have shown to remove heavy metals from the body. Wheatgrass also has a positive effect on sterility and can restore fertility. (The high magnesium content in chlorophyll builds enzymes that restore the sex hormones.)
Wheatgrass juice held in the mouth for 5 minutes will help eliminate toothaches. It pulls poisons from the gums
Do what Dr. Ann Wigmore did and drink Wheatgrass Juice to keep your hair from graying.
Toxic side effects – Wheatgrass has no known toxic side effects and is a powerful full body detoxifier.
In the American Journal of Surgery (1940), Benjamin Gruskin, M.D. recommends chlorophyll for its antiseptic benefits.

Gum disease of the mouth is helped by rinsing and applying a wheatgrass poultice. Use the fiber(pulp) left over from juicing to make a poultice.
B17 in wheatgrass has been shown to have positive effects on the immune system.
Help rebuild and balance the immune system, enabling the body to strengthen itself so it can eliminate cancer cells.
Wheatgrass may be an anti-cancer super food, precisely due to selenium and laetrile which are anti-cancer compounds found in wheatgrass.
Cancer cells like acidic atmosphere and wheatgrass help alkalize the body.
With wheatgrass, the body becomes a more difficult place for cancer cells to continue thriving.
Along with Dr. Ann Wigmore and like minded colleagues we have been showing people how to take charge of their lives, drink wheatgrass, and recover from chronic and life-threatening health disorders for 100 years.
BONUS – Plant a small trays of wheatgrass and set them throughout your home, especially placing them on your nightstand. e You will notice the air in your home stays fresh and oxygenated and that you will sleep much sounder.
Wishing everyone here in the USA a happy 4th of July. For our friends around the world we wish you peace, health and prosperity. Sending love and blessings. Dr. Bobby
The medicinal value of wheatgass has been known about for more than 5000 years.
“Wheatgrass juice is the nectar of rejuvenation, the plasma of youth, the blood of all life. The elements that are missing in our body’s cells – especially enzymes, vitamins, hormones, and nucleic acids can be obtained through this daily green sunlight transfusion”. – Viktoras Kulvinskas, Author of Survival into the 21st Century
Throughout the history of wheatgrass, it has been recognized for its beneficial health effects. Mankind has always known that livestock showed improved health and vigor when they feed on the young grasses of early spring. Herdsmen have moved their livestock across every continent in search of the best grazing grasses for their animals.
Today, grass is the world’s most widespread form of vegetation. There are over 12,000 species of grass found across the planet, covering more than 25% of the earth land mass. You will find grass wherever there is the sun, water, and soil. Grass has truly become recognized as the staff of life with four of the world’s top five crops being grains/grasses.
The use of wheatgrass can be traced back more than six thousand years, to ancient early Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations.
Wheatgrass has been usesd for medicinal purposes for more than 5000 years
Five thousand years ago, Egyptians were using wheatgrass for health purposes. The Priests, Pharaohs, and influential members of ancient Egyptian society used wheatgrass regularly, believing that it improved their health.
Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Babylonian Empire, and builder of the Hanging Gardens reigned from 605 BC – 562 BC., reportedly restricted his diet to grasses and attributed the health benefits of this magnificent chlorophyll rich plant to the improvement of his physical and mental health.
Almost two thousand years ago, during the first century A.D., we found a Jewish sect known as the Essene’s using wheatgrass as a healing food. From their holy book The Gospel of Peace, translated by Edmund Bordeaux Szekely, we read: “We may also eat of the tender blades of grass that the strength of the Earthly Mother may enter into us. But chew well the blades, for the Son of Man has teeth unlike those of beasts, and only when we chew well the blades of grass can the Angel of Water enter our blood and give us strength. Eat, then, Sons of Light, of this most perfect herb from the table of our Earthly Mother, that your days may be long upon the earth, for such finds favor in the eyes of God.”
WELCOME TO WHEATGRASS SCIENCE IN THE 20TH CENTURY In 1915 Dr. Richard Willstätter’s pioneering work on natural products; especially chlorophyll was honored with the 1915 Nobel Prize in chemistry. His founding of the healthful link between the chlorophyll in plants and the hemoglobin in our blood was the start of scientific research into how close the composition of chlorophyll and human blood are. He showed that chlorophyll molecules bonded in in a very similar way as the iron molecule in hemoglobin. Close to the time of Dr. Willstätter’s work and discovery of the wonder of chlorophyll, in the laboratory, world war I had broken out across Europe. In the small county of Lithuania, a young girl named Ann Wigmore watched as her grandmother treated sick and wounded soldiers with grass poultices as well as having them drink the juice of the grasses. Later in life, Ann drank wheatgrass to manage her own colon disease.
In the late 1920’s and early 1930’s scientists, including Charles Francis Schnabel were studying grasses and green leafy vegetables and unlocking their nutritional mysteries. They tested all types of plant and meat based feeds and found that animals did not only survive on the grass-based feed but thrived on it, in contrast, their health failed when they were fed other healthy vegetables, including green leafy vegetables.
In 1931 Charles Francis Schnabel an American school teacher and agricultural chemist who is kindly referred to as the “father of wheatgrass” discovered that wheat and barley grasses reached their nutritional peak at or just before the commencement of the jointing stage. Because he was an agricultural chemist, the focus of Schnabel’s studies were based in developing feeds for livestock, which would help them recover more quickly from sickness, grow faster, and increase fertility. His research proved to be the most in-depth study of its time, demonstrating the nutritional value of grasses and how the dietary values changed through different stages of the plant’s life.
Struck by the power of wheatgrass, Charles Schnabel started promoting his discoveries to feed mills, chemists and the food industry. Two large corporations that are still with us today (Quaker Oats and American Dairies) invested millions of dollars into funding further research. Joined by others, such as biochemist George Kohler, his passion inspired a body of scientific research and much of his research finding served as the basis of Dr. Ann Wigmores development of wheatgrass therapy.
The “Wheatgrass Juice Factor”
In the mid-1930s, at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. George Kohler and his colleagues were studying the differences in the nutritional value of cow’s milk produced at different seasons of the year. Although they thrived on summer milk, experimental rats and guinea pigs failed to grow and eventually became sick and died when fed winter milk. The higher nutritional value of the summer milk was found to be due to the grasses eaten by the cows in the spring and summer. Thus began research on the “Grass Juice Factor”, a water-soluble extract of grass juice which was responsible for this growth effect.
Most of the individual vitamins that we know about today were identified during the 1930s by scientists working to identify all the nutritional factors necessary for growth and reproduction in humans and domestic animals.
Scientists were amazed to find, when they added green chlorophyll-rich foods to the diets of test animals, the growth and health effects of cereal grass and the “Grass Juice Factor” were far our stripping any other type of supplementation. By the late 1930s, dehydrated and dried cereal grasses were available in several forms for use as a human and animal food supplements.
After many years of research and testing, the scientists at the University of Wisconsin determine the highest levels of the “Grass Juice Factor”, was found in cereal grass (wheatgrass), young white clover, peas, and cabbage.
At the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Mott Cannon and his colleagues found that guinea pigs health rapidly failed when fed a stock ration plus high levels of all the then-known nutrients. When the researchers added standard food supplements such as liver extracts, wheat germ, and brewer’s yeast to the animals’ diets, the guinea pigs remained sick and often died. The addition of grass or grass juice brought about dramatic recovery and restimulated growth in these animals.
In 1935, Danish researchers discovered vitamin K, the “Koagulation vitamin”. Because this nutrient was difficult to isolate in large quantities, cereal grasses were used in place of purified vitamin K—both for research and for medical therapy.
In 1938 Folic acid was identified, being named after the green leaves, or foliage, which proved to be its most abundant source. Scientists knew they were on to something as they observed the health and growth benefits that the known vitamins and minerals in the cereal grasses provide. Other benefits, however, could not be attributed to known nutrients.
In the early 1940s, Dr. Charles Kettering (former chairman of the board of General Motors) donated money for the study of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll was studied intensively by scientist and medical doctors (there are currently over 70 articles written up in scientific and medical journals about the healing effects of chlorophyll.) These scientist and medical doctors found that chlorophyll was a great healer.
In 1940, in the American Journal of Surgery, Benjamin Cruskin, M.D., recommends chlorophyll for its antiseptic benefits. The article suggests the following clinical uses for chlorophyll:
“To clear up foul-smelling odours, neutralize strep infections, heal wounds, hasten skin grafting, cure chronic sinusitis, overcome ear inflammation and infections, reduce varicose veins and heal leg ulcers, eliminate impetigo and other scabby eruptions, heal rectal sores, successfully treat inflammation of the uterine cervix, get rid of parasitic vaginal infections, reduce typhoid fever, and cure advanced pyorrhea in many cases”.
Through the 1940s and 1950s, scientist continued to research the potential of cereal grasses and their effect on humans and animals. Expanded research led to their finding that cereal grass was shown to contain factors which support the growth of lactobacilli and other beneficial intestinal bacteria, block the development of scurvy, stop the formation of histamine-induced and peptic ulcers.
OTHER UNIDENTIFIED HEALTH FACTORS IN CEREAL GRASSES
By 1950, all the nutrients now considered essential to the human diet (except for selenium) had been identified. But researchers continued to describe green food “factors” which could not be correlated with any known nutrient.
I see a world without sickness…a world in complete harmony and in perfect physical, mental, and spiritual balance by following nature’s laws of cause and effect. – Ann Wigmore
In the late 1950’s early 1960’s Ann Wigmore “re-discovered” wheatgrass and was able to cure her own ‘untreatable’ colon cancer. She also had been a terrible accident which had crushed her legs, gangrene set in and the doctors wanted to amputate her legs. Ann had made friends with Dr. Earp Thomas, who believed that wheatgrass was one of the most potent healing foods known to man. Dr. Thomas found that an ounce of wheatgrass in a gallon of fluoridated water would turn the fluorine into the harmless calcium-phosphate-fluoride compound. Used in wash water, it adds softness to the face and hands. It stops bleeding, eases itching, and helps in wound healing. Dr. Thomas further discovered that fruits and vegetables contaminated by sprays were thoroughly cleaned and the harmful food transformed by wash water with a wisp of wheatgrass placed in the water.
As Ann spent untold hours with her mentor, Dr. Thomas and as she learned more and more about the medicinal effects of grass, she decided to heal herself of her disease and her injuries. She began drinking fresh wheatgrass and eating wild and natural raw living foods. She shared wheatgrass with several sick friends, and along with herself, each recovered from their sickness.
Drinking wheatgrass should not be considered a one-stop cure-all. Although wheatgrass has helped hundreds of thousands of people recover from serious illnesses, it is neither a drug nor a magic bullet.
As of 2019, Creative Health International, (CHI) wheatgrass is grown on the premises and serves as one of our nutritional cornerstones in our full body detoxification and rebuilding health process. We believe that when our students and guests take in substantial quantities of wheatgrass along with raw living foods and probiotics, they quickly overcome their health challenges. When we have them take the time to address their lifestyle physically, spiritually and their mental and emotional states, they can create an immune system that will not be as much affected by any illness.
I invite you to join us on the beautiful journey to health and happiness as you make drinking at least 2 ounces of wheatgrass daily as apart of your living a healthy lifestyle.
Love & blessings, Bobby
“Until man duplicates a blade of grass, Nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge.” – Thomas A. Edison
One of our past guests had just become a new grandmother and she asked my opinion on raw living foods for children and if children could eat herbs when they were sick. That is why I am writing this article — because she asked me to help her and because I thought some of our other past guests and readers could benefit from how I answered her questions.
Keeping our children healthy is our primary purpose as parents and grandparents. The living foods lifestyle is the strongest health foundation you can give your child, yet there are times when parents must consider additional modalities when helping their children through an illness. It’s my hope that you will never have to use any of the following herbs or concoctions, but if you do, keep in mind herbs can interact with other herbs, supplements and/or medications. For these reasons, you should only give herbs to a child when under the supervision of a health care practitioner. So if you do want to use these time-tested protocols, please consult your healthcare provider for diagnosis and medical advice before giving them to your children.
The following list of symptoms and the herbs and concoctions used to address them is by no means meant to be a comprehensive listing and only reflects some of the protocols I am personally aware of. If you have found other simple protocols please feel free to add them to the comments. I would love to hear from you.
Blessings,
Bobby
Herbs and Protocols
Colic: When your child cries for extended periods (1-2 hours), pulls its legs up to the belly, or extends its legs out and will not calm down they may be experiencing colic. Mild, yet effective herbal teas made from Anise, Catnip, Caraway or Fennel and Peppermint have been used by mothers to soothe their children’s colic.
Colds: When your child is suffering from a cold you also suffer. All of these herbs and concoctions will really help your child when they are fighting a cold. Your first line of defense should be used early and often. Echinacea is a great all round herb which provides immune support and may help protect your child from viral and bacterial infections. I also like Anise as it will help with breaking up the mucus and make it easier for your child to breath and get mucus out of his/her body. You may also want to make a Chamomile tea, infused with peppermint, licorice and lemon balm. This concoction will help calm your child’s cough and works as an expectorant. If your child is older you may want to talk to your health care provider about Mullen tea.
Constipation: Good hydration is the most effective way to relieve constipation and this is easy to achieve when your child is getting plenty of pure water along with raw fruits and vegetables which contain large amounts of water. Also, a blend of Chamomile and Marigold teas will help prevent constipation, while gently helping your little one’s bowels to move. Two other good herbs are aloe and Sienna both possesses laxative action and act on your child’s large intestine to stimulate peristalsis.
Cough: When your child coughs it is a sign that his/her body is attempting to an inflamed (croup- dry cough) or mucus congested airway (wet cough). All of the herbal remedies I’m sharing with you will decrease inflammation, reduce mucus production and have a soothing relaxing effect that quickly helps stop the coughing. Warm herbal tea with licorice, honey (only give honey to children who are at least 1 year old) and a little lemon juice is excellent for helping ease the tickle that sets off a cough. Children of all ages who have coughs benefit from running a humidifier with eucalyptus oil in the water as it will break up mucus and soothe your child’s coughing reflex. Make sure the humidifier is out of your child’s reach, or use a cold humidifier. Also, if your child is over 1 year old give them a spoonful of honey with a little lemon mixed in before they go to bed as this will help alleviate soreness. There are many wonderful natural herbal cough syrups that you can make or purchase. Contact your health care for recipes and suggestions. Don’t forget to keep checking your child’s temperature and to keep him/her hydrated.
Cradle Cap: Consists of dead skin cells which remain attached to your babies head. These dead skin cells block your baby’s pores and mix with body oils. Cradle Cap usually appears within the first days of your child’s life. Your child will not usually experience itching or pain with Cradle Cap. Before bedtime you can rinse your baby’s head with a simple warm mixture of Calendula and Comfrey, then let the baby’s scalp air dry, then massage organic olive oil mixed with lavender and mullein into the scalp and leave it in overnight, wash it away with mild natural soap and water each morning. The Cradle Cap should disappear within a few days. Seborrhea- is a form of Cradle Cap that has formed on other areas of the body.
Diaper Rash: Is usually caused by a diaper containing urine/stool and the material of the diaper rubbing against the child’s skin. The way to identify this type of rash is to look at the folds of the skin (which are more protected) if they are not red, you have diaper rash caused by simple irritation. Most other diaper rashes are caused by yeast or bacterial infections. The yeast rash will show up bright red, often with small red pimples on the outer edges. The bacterial rash will have fluid-filled pimples which look yellowish with some crusty areas.
Diarrhea: As your child begins to eat different combinations of foods the bowels sometime will react and your child may get diarrhea. To alleviate the discomfort associated with diarrhea, you may want to have your child eat fresh grated raw or lightly steamed carrots, mixed with equal parts applesauce (include the apple’s skin). I also like raspberry and peppermint tea blended, as this concoction helps to stop cramping, calms diarrhea and will also help lower a fever.
Earache: If your child experiences regular earaches or earaches which last more than 12 hours be sure to contact your physician. Usually, earaches accompany colds and coughs. If you are a smoker stop! Smoke from cigarettes plays a major role in many children’s earaches. Before giving your child herbs or medications, try sitting him/her up and placing a cool washcloth on the ear that is troubling them. If your child is old enough to chew gum give him/her a piece of herbal chewing gum, as this can sometimes lower the pain. As long as your child’s eardrum is not punctured you may want to warm some olive oil and add a few drops of grapefruit seed extract along with a drop of garlic and tea tree oil. Place a piece of warm cotton in the ear and lay a warm, slightly damp cloth over the ear and begin a vaporizer that has eucalyptus oil in it. You may repeat putting on warm clothes until your child’s ear stops hurting. Should your child’s earache not subside, you should contact your physician.
Teething: Children seeking comfort from the pain of teething can use lemon balm as a tea or can chew on a washcloth soaked in the tea.
Always contact your physician if you have a question about your Childs health. Do not give your child any type of medicine or herb without consulting the Childs physician. The information contained in this article is for educational and entertainment purposes, and is not intended to diagnose, or treat any sickness, or disease.
Eating this amazing food everyday will completley recharge your immune system.
While I was the director of the Creative Health Institute, this wonderful food was served at every meal. Some of the benefits associated with eating regular and VegeKrauts are:
Sauerkraut is an immune system booster Packed with enzymes, vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals, sauerkraut has a wonderful effect on the immune system and has been used as an immune booster for centuries. Sauerkraut contains, lactic acid bacteria and photochemical which are created and enhanced during the fermentation process. These naturally occurring, beneficial by-products of sauerkraut help boost the immune system which leads to a decrease in a number of health problems. The common cold, skin problems, weight gain, and tainted blood are all fixed by a healthy functioning immune system.
Sauerkraut is a cancer fighter Sauerkraut’ is a superfood, with the ability to inhibit and even destroy cancer cells. Studies published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry concluded that sauerkraut is a cancer inhibitor. The study discovered that the fermentation of cabbage produced a substance called isothiocyanate, which prevents cancer growth, particularly in the breast, colon, lung, and liver. The University of New Mexico published a study linking sauerkraut consumption by adolescent females to a reduced risk for breast cancer earlier studies indicate sauerkraut may reduce the risk for other forms of cancer including lung, colon, prostate, and liver
“We are finding that fermented cabbage to be healthier than raw or cooked cabbage, especially for fighting cancer”, says Eeva-Liisa Ryhanen, Ph.D., research manager of MTT Agrifood Research Finland, located in Jokioinen, Finland. A recent study by the American Center for Cancer Research has found that sauerkraut has a profound effect on preventing and healing breast cancer. Based on reports that breast cancer rates amongst polish women in the United States were much higher than those in Poland researchers set out to find out why. Their answer; the women who still lived in Poland ate significantly larger amounts of sauerkraut especially important while they were in adolescence. The research found that the women who immigrated Americanized’ their diets and stopped eating as much of the superfood that is sauerkraut thus increasing their rates of breast cancer.
Digestive Aid Eating sauerkraut is a great way to protect the balance of bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. Sauerkraut is one of the few foods that contain the bacterium Lactobacilli Plantarum. L. Plantarum is a very dominant strain of healthful bacteria which helps your digestive system in the following ways: boost the immune system by increasing antibodies that fight infectious disease help inhibit pathogenic organisms including E.coli, salmonella and unhealthy overgrowth of candida (yeast) create antioxidants (glutathione and superoxide dismutase) that scavenge free radicals which are a cancer precursor transforms hard-to-digest lactose from milk to the more easily digested lactic acid. It neutralizes the anti-nutrients found in many foods including the phytic acid found in all grains and the trypsin-inhibitors in soy generates new nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, digestive aids, and the trace mineral GTF chromium. These various properties are the best scientific reasons given for what has been known by loyal users for millennia, sauerkraut cures an upset stomach and is the best natural physic there is. Many sources say raw fermented foods are beneficial to the digestive system by increasing the healthy flora in the intestinal tract or creating the type of environment for them to flourish. Sauerkraut and its juice are traditional folk remedies for constipation. Fermentation actually increases nutrient values in the cabbage, especially vitamin C.
Fermented foods facilitate the breakdown and assimilation of proteins. They have a soothing effect on the nervous system. The benefits of sauerkraut and sauerkraut juice have been recognized for generations. In some families of southern Germany, the children are fed raw sauerkraut twice weekly to support their intestines.
Avian Flu Fighter With the spread of Avian Flu spreading across the globe, Korean scientist, Kang Sa-Ouk of Seoul National University, took 13 chickens infected with the avian flu virus and fed them Kim Chi extract. 11 of the birds recovered. It appears that the vital bacteria are created during the fermenting process and this gives the Kim Chi (Kraut) its health-boosting qualities.
Finely chop cabbage, saving outside leaves. Chop carrots and onion. Place vegetables into a large bowl or crock-pot. Mix in optional seasonings. Cover the top outside with cabbage leaves. Place large plate and weight on top (we use a large stone). Press down to remove air from Kraut. Leave at room temperature for 3 days or until it is sour enough for your taste. Place the Kraut in a glass jar with a lid and refrigerate. It will keep up to for several weeks. Eat a ½ cup serving a day with meals and enjoy the wonderful flavor and nutritional benefits of this wonderful food! Another zero fat, healthy bacteria, non-fruit recipe to give you amazing health!
Wishing you the best day ever,
Bobby

There are more than 20 species of Candida, the most common being Candida albicans. These fungi live on all surfaces of our bodies. Candida yeast grows naturally in the gut, however, when this yeast multiplies out of control it can unbalance your whole system, creating an acidic environment where yeast over-growth and bad bacteria can thrive. Over time this imbalance in the intestinal flora lowers the immune system, leaving the us open to sickness and disease…

Bobby – Robert Morgan is the Health Education Director at CHI
Dr. Ann Wigmore taught us, poor diet is the beginning of poor digestion, which creates nutritional deficiencies thus slowing the body’s digestive processes, creating internal fermentation, inflammation, free radicals, an over abundance of mucus, all of which when combined create toxic residues which are absorbed into the bloodstream, causing self-toxification.
We must have live enzymes to begin the digestive process. Some of them will be supplied by our bodies systems, while others will be provided by eating raw living foods.
Our bodies must have ‘friendly’ intestinal bacteria, which is supported by our eating a complex carbohydrate diet which also contains fermented foods.
We must eat properly combined meals which include adequate amounts of natural fiber. When we do this we are able to give our body’s what they need to keep our stomachs choleric acid at the proper level, insure our small intestine is more alkaline than acidic and our large intestines pH is neutral.
Loving yourself and being willing to serve others as we would wish to be served, helps us to more easily eliminate the physical and emotional toxins that keep us from being able to eliminate that which does not serve us.
When we follow the four principals, we have created a solid health foundation and we can feel confident that we will be able to prevent many of the health challenges that are associated with the standard American diet. Remember the lifestyle program that has worked for you while at CHI will also work for you the rest of your life, all you need to do is make your health your number one priority and you will be able to serve yourself and those you love at the highest level possible.
It’s my hope that you will never have to use any of the following herbs or concoctions, but if you do, keep in mind that herbs can interact with other herbs, supplements and/or medications.
Mild, yet effective herbal teas made from Anise, Catnip, Caraway or Fennel, and Peppermint have been used by mothers to sooth their children’s colic.
Colds: When your child is suffering from a cold you also suffer. All of these herb and concoctions will really help your child when they are fighting a cold. Your first line of defense should be used early and often. Echinacea is a great all round herb which provides immune support and may help protect your child from viral and bacterial infections. I also like Anise as it will help with breaking up the mucus and make it easier for your child to breath and get the mucous out of his/her body. You may also want to make a Chamomile tea, infused with peppermint, licorice and lemon balm. This concoction will help calm your child’s cough and works as an expectorant. If your child is older you may want to talk to your health care provider about Mullen tea.
Constipation: Good hydration is the most effective way to relive constipation and this is easy to achieve, when your child is getting plenty of pure water along with raw fruits and vegetables which contain large amounts of water. Also a blend of Chamomile and Marigold teas will help prevent constipation, while gently helping your little one’s bowels to move. Two other good herbs are aloe and sienna both possesses laxative action and act on your child’s large intestine to stimulate peristalsis.
Cough:When your child coughs it is a sign that his/her body is attempting to an inflamed (croup- dry cough) or mucus congested airway (wet cough). All of the herbal remedies I’m sharing with you will decrease inflammation, reduce mucus production and have a soothing relaxing affect that quickly helps stop the coughing. Warm herbal tea with licorice, honey (only give honey to children who are at least 1 years old) and a little lemon juice is excellent for helping ease the tickle that sets off a cough. Children of all ages who have coughs benefit from running a humidifier with eucalyptus oil in the water as it will break up mucus and soothe your child’s coughing reflex. Make sure the humidifier is out of your child’s reach, or use a cold humidifier. Also, if your child is over 1 years old give them a spoonful of honey with a little lemon mixed in before they go to bed as this will help alleviate soreness.
Before bedtime you can rinse your baby’s head with a simple warm mixture of Alendula and Comfrey, then let the baby’s scalp air dry, then massage organic olive oil mixed with lavender and mullein into the scalp and leave it in overnight, wash it away with mild natural soap and water each morning.
Most other diaper rashes are cause by yeast or bacterial infections.
To alleviate the discomfort associated with diarrhea, you may want to have your child eat fresh grated raw or lightly steamed carrots, mixed with equal parts applesauce (include the apples skin). I also like raspberry and peppermint tea blended, as this concoction helps to stop cramping, calms diarrhea and will also help lower a fever.
Earache: If your child experiences regular earaches or earaches which last more than 12 hours be sure to contact your physician. Usually earaches accompany colds and coughs. You may repeat putting on warm cloths until your child ear stops hurting. Should your child’s earache not subside, you should contact your physician.
Teething:Children seeking comfort from the pain of teething can use lemon balm as a tea or can chew on a washcloth soaked in the tea.

Raw Food Smoothie Immune Rejuvenation Diet
Based on Teachings of Dr. Wu, not Yu
By Simon Yu, MD
Dr. Tom Wu was giving a lecture on “Conquering Cancer With Simple Foods” while I was at the American Naturopathic Medical Association Convention. I was there to investigate this Naturopathic physician’s philosophy. I found his personal history and his lecture compelling. Permit me to share his teaching with you.
Dr. Tom Wu was trained as a pathologist inFrance. At one point in his life he developed lung cancer. He went through traditional western based medical therapy without success. He then decided to look for alternative natural healing methods. He eventually became a Naturopathic Medical Doctor. He is over 70 years old which you would never guess by his vibrant energy.
He strongly credits smoothies as part of his healing process. For these, you need a powerful “three horse power” blender (e.g. VitaMix.com) to cleave out and free the natural phytochemicals locked into the fibers of fruits and vegetables.
The juicing process won’t work for this purpose. It may provide the vitamins, enzymes, and minerals. However, it wastes a majority of the phytochemicals locked in the fibers. These phytochemicals have potent anti-aging and immune rejuvenating properties.
To start the smoothies, use ripe organic tomatoes, carrots, beets, and asparagus as your basic ingredients. There are over 500 different phytochemical nutrients that have been isolated from tomatoes and carrots alone.
Then, add spices and herbs using cilantro, parsley, ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon powder. If you cannot get turmeric, use curry powder as a substitute.
To enhance the taste, add sour fruits, especially blueberry, blackberry, or any seasonally available berries. Add Kiwi which should be peeled. You may add 1-2 cups of distilled or filtered water. (Alternatively, not as part of Dr. Wu’s teaching, I would offer that you could substitute juices of your choice like acai, apple, apple cider vinegar, cranberry, grape, goji, noni, or xango).
After blending the above fruits and vegetables thoroughly, add bee pollen, sea salt, and lecithin granules.
(I prefer not to add soy based lecithin but rather that you eat raw eggs as a substitute for lecithin.) Do not refrigerate the smoothie.
It is important not to drink the smoothie but chew the smoothie. You need to consume about a quart (32oz) of the smoothie throughout the day. By the end of the day, the smoothie will have gone through a fermentation process with a change in color and smell. However, it is just fine for you to still consume it.
Dr. Wu’s healing plan also includes a salad with sprouted alfalfa and sprouted beans. However, the “magic of healing” won’t happen if you aren’t including this smoothie once a day. It may take at least 3 – 4 months for the transformation of your body to heal
I recommend you try Dr. Tom Wu’s Raw Food Smoothie as part of a complete healing program. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, you must eliminate them. I do recommend food allergy testing prior to starting the program.
You may add additional nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables based on individual conditions. Flax seeds for omega-3 essential fatty acids for all illnesses; garlic for infections; broccoli, cauliflower, and brazil nuts for their anti-cancer properties; bitter melon, Swiss Chard, and extra cinnamon for diabetes; pumpkin seeds for prostate problems; pomegranate with its seeds and black sesame seeds for women’s’ health; and celery for hypertension.
A Fruits and Vegetables Smoothie Diet is not a new idea. However, when I hear directly from a physician who cured his incurable lung cancer with simple foods, and listen to his conviction in his teaching, it has an “infectious” motivating effect on me to spread this old, new idea. After his lecture, I dusted off my Vita-Mix blender which has been idle for the last few years, and started his recommended smoothies.
Every day, my wife, Kate, and I make a smoothie which turns out slightly different in texture and taste each time. If you can continue this “Raw Food Immune Rejuvenation Smoothie Diet”, you may not need as many vitamins and minerals as I’ve been recommending to my patients.
If you are suffering from any chronic illness, it’s worthwhile to experiment with this diet that is based on Dr. Tom Wu, not Yu. You may contact him, Tom Wu, N.M.D., Ph.D. atWellnessSelfcareCenter, 831

As raw living foodest practicing, Dr. Ann Wigmore’s Living Food Lifestyle, we depended on sprouted seeds, to provide us with a host of powerful live enzymes, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. We have found the best way to insure we have the best seeds is to grow and store our own, for future use. This is not always possible and so we still get the majority of our seeds from vendors.
If you are going to purchase seeds make sure the seeds have been carefully dried under proper conditions, before you use them, or store them for later use. Proper storing of your seeds will give them the best chance of germinating and giving you the highest quality sprouts and micro-greens. The great thing is storing seeds is easy to accomplish.
At Creative Health Institute we do not have the facilities to freeze or refrigerate our seeds, but luckily we use them so quickly we do not have the need to freeze or refrigerate them.
Our basic storage rule is to keep our seeds in a cool, dry, dark place where the temperature is between 55 and 70 degrees and the humidity is less then 70%. The lower the humidity, the better.
Most of you will be able to freeze or refrigerate your seeds. Freezing them will at least quadruple the life of your seeds and refrigerating them doubles their life.
With more than 39 years of experience we have a pretty good understanding of different seeds shelf lives. I have designed the following chart that should provide you with a conservative estimate of the life of seeds that have been properly dried. Since we do not have the room for refrigerators and freezer your storage time could be from 2 to 4 times longer. If you have more questions, feel free to call Bobby as 866.426.1213.

Creative Health Institute Interns Make Life Better For Others
Many people come to Creative Health Institute to learn how to get relief from COPD. We have a complete training program for those who need help or would like to help those who suffer from this terrible disease.
Our Health and Education Director Robert “Bobby Morgan” teaches classes which cover all the specific types of foods and herbs which are used in helping COPD sufferers obtain relief. If you know of anyone who is suffering from this disease or you would like to lean learn more about COPD, call Creative Health Institutes toll free number, 866.426.1213 and we will send a information packed brochure, which cover CHI’s COPD programs.
Causes of COPD
The primary causes of COPD is long term cigarette smoking, the more years you smoke and the more packs you smoke, the greater your risk. Symptoms of COPD usually appear about 10 years after you start smoking, but other irritants can cause COPD including second hand smoke, occupational dust, vapors, hazardous fumes, asbestos as well as air pollution have all been shown to be contributing factors. In very rare cases, COPD results from a genetic disorder that causes low levels of a protein called alpha-1-antitrypsin.
Early Warning Signs
Early warning signs of COPD are unique to each person and you may not even realize that you are having trouble breathing. Therefore we have put together some signs to watch for. If you find that you have any of these symptoms you may want to talk to your doctor since a change, combination or increase in the symptoms I have listed may be an early warning sign of COPD.
Are You Experiencing One Or More Of The Following:
1. An increase in the amount of sputum produced (Sputum: The mucus and other matter brought up from the lungs, bronchi, and trachea that one may cough up and spit out or swallow)
2. An increase in the thickness or stickiness of sputum
3. A change in sputum color to yellow or green or the presence of blood in the sputum
4. An increase in the severity of shortness of breath, cough and/or wheezing
5. Using more pillows or sleeping in a chair instead of a bed to avoid shortness of breath
6. A general feeling of ill health
7. Ankle swelling
8. Forgetfulness, confusion, slurring of speech and sleepiness
9. Increasing morning headaches, dizzy spells, restlessness
10. Trouble sleeping
11. An unexplained increase or decrease in weight
12. Increased feeling of fatigue and lack of energy that is persistent
13. A lack of sexual drive
Once COPD has been diagnosed, early treatment is most effective, timely assessment of your symptoms can help you and your healthcare provider decide the type of treatment that will most benefit you.
Many of our guests have chosen to augment their treatment of COPD with more holistic approaches designed to strengthening their immune systems. They feel that eating raw living foods diet, drinking wheatgrass and taking wheatgrass baths, enemas and implants, help to alleviate many of their COPD symptoms. Guests also use herbs and supplements. to enhance their ability to deal effectively with COPD. Some of the herbs and supplements our guests seem to find helpful are:
Herbs & Supplements
1. Comfrey leaves – help because they stimulate new cell growth and support quick healing. This makes it an excellent natural remedy for the lungs. It inhibits the cough reflex, softens and soothes damaged and inflamed bronchial mucus membranes. It helps to loosen mucus from the bronchial tubes so that it does not accumulate. You can buy comfrey leaf or root in various forms. Check with your Doctor before taking this herb.
2. Black tea – many COPD sufferers turn to tea for relief from tightening in the chest. Black tea contains chemicals related to the stimulant theophylline, which is also the basis of many modern medical remedies. Three or four cups of black tea can open airway passages and ease breathing.
3. Ginkgo – when used regularly the active ingredient has helped some patients to cut down on prescribed medication. Taken three times a day for a week or a month at a time. Ginkgo helps relax the lungs and keeps the breathing passage clear. Check with your Doctor before taking this herb.
4. Vitamin C and magnesium – improves lung function.
5. Pleurisy Root – possesses a specific action on the lungs, assisting expectoration, subduing inflammation and exerting a general mild tonic effect on the system, making it valuable in all chest complaints. It is of great use in pleurisy, mitigating the pain and relieving the difficulty of breathing, and is also recommended in pulmonary catarrh. The infusion may be prepared by taking 1 teaspoonful of the powder in a cupful of boiling water. The decoction is taken in doses of 2 to 3 fluid ounces. The dose of the fluid extract is 1/2 to 1 drachm; of Asclepin, 1 to 4 grains. A much-recommended herbal recipe is: Essence of composition powder, 1 OZ.; fluid extract of Pleurisy Root, 1 OZ. Mix and take a teaspoonful three or four times daily in warm water. Doctor before taking this herb.
6. Yerba Santa Holy Herb – medicines prepared with it or its extracts to treat bronchial and laryngeal problems. In addition, in combination with other herbs such as Grindelia robusta (good for Asthmatic bronchitis) yerba santa is also effective in curing insistent pulmonary infections, hay fever and asthma. There is no proven safe or effective dose for yerba santa in adults. Traditionally, 1-2 milliliters of fluid extract has been taken by mouth with a spoon every 3-4 hours for no more than ten days.
If you have questions about any Creative Health Institute program conact Robert (Bobby) Morgan, health education director.
SIMPLE – THEY SHOULD EAT A TOTALLY RAW ORGANIC LIVE FOOD DIET!
In my opinion, only raw organic living food has the enzymes, vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals intact. If you want to get the nourishment you need to survive cancer eating organic raw live foods and only organic raw live foods, while you have cancer will provide your body with the energy it needs to create clean healthy cells, destroy the cancer cells and replace them with new healthy cells. I believe you can push cancer into remission, ultimately destroy it and live a cancer free life.
Eating only organic raw fruits, vegetables, fermented food, nuts, seed and sprouted grains will give you the best chance of not only surviving the cancer, but will also enable you to strengthen your immune system and put a stop to any other sicknesses or diseases that may have gained ground in your body.
When I say you need to eat a organic raw living food diet it mean just that. That means you must completely stop doing what you have been doing and to not eat any cooked food – Zero-Zilch-Nada – NOTHING COOKED!
Destroying cancer cells is serious business and if you are going to survive and have a healthy long life, you must be able to stop eating cooked foods and do what other people will not do! Think about it… Chemotherapy, radiation, hospitals, drugs, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, body aches, baldness, absolute exhaustion, immune system torn own, being sick every day, financial ruin, etc. OR choose to simply eat organic living foods that provide your body with everything it needs to heal itself.
All of our guests at Creative Health Institute (CHI) eat only 100% organic, nutrient dense, raw living foods which are properly combined and easily assimilated. Dead food is never served and because we adhere to the living food principal taught by Dr. Ann Wigmore we always make sure that every meal is enriched with sprouted foods.
If you or a loved one is suffering from any disease, or sickness consider going on a 100% raw organic living food diet, until the sickness or disease has be alleviated. I spend time with 100’s of sick people every month and with most I see what many people would consider miracles as these individuals take charge of their own health and bring about their own healings, by simply using raw organic living foods as the basis for their turnarounds.
Since 1973 Creative Health Institute has taught more then 19,000 people how to take charge of their health and to overcome sickness and disease through by living a raw food lifestyle.
Wishing everyone the greatest of health and happiness,
Robert Morgan – Bobby

Here is something to think about… Could all diseases and sicknesses be based in cellular malfunction? I have listed 10 reasons that I feel lend some credence to this train of thought.
Dr Ann Wigmore taught us that all disease is based in deficiency and toxicity. If this is true then it makes sense the first thing to suffer the effects of deficiency and toxicity would be our cells. What do you think; Could the detox rebuild program that we do here at Creative Health Institute (CHI) that includes wheat grass, living foods, rejuvelac, fermented foods, pure alkaline water, fresh clean air, proper rest at the right time, exercise and a positive-loving mental attitude change how a cell replicates and presents itself in our bodies?
1. There are 243 different types of cells that come in all shapes and sizes.
2. They are the bricks and mortar from which all living tissue and organs and systems are made.
3. Your body (tissue, organs and systems) is made up of more than 75 trillion of these cells.
4. You (spirit-brain) is given sole responsibility for every one of these 75 trillion plus cells health and welfare.
5. You have the greatest of responsibilities, as only you can guarantee the health and safety of every cell.
6. When you take charge of the situation, by providing proper guidance and direction every cell will answer to your commands.
7. Every second 10’s of millions of cells are reborn, creating amino acids, vitamins, hormones, neurotransmitters, enzymes and adenosinetriphosphate (ATP – cellular energy), all await your direction.
8. An almost endless army of cellular workers along with the bricks and mortar you will ever need to self generate a healthy body are under your command.
9. So, a strong healthy body can only originate at the cellular level and must be given the proper information and substance to do so.
10. So, a sick and diseased body can only originate at the cellular level and must be given improper information and harmful substance to do so.
Dr. Joyce Oliveto, who was the director of Creative Health Institute in 1986 and 1987, says whenever she returns to the center it feels like home.
The internationally renown teacher and healer visited the center during the winter and returns as a guest teacher in May when current director Bobby Morgan is out of the country.
Dr. Joyce, who has wonderful stories from her time spent with Dr. Ann Wigmore, said she was really amazed at the level our programs have been taken to under the direction of Morgan.
“To see the level of expertise is amazing,” Dr. Joyce said. “The classes are not only designed around the original program that Dr. Ann put together. They are even better.”
In addition to being impressed with the quality of classes now available for guests who participate in the CHI Detox Programs and gourmet raw chef classes, Dr. Joyce also said she is impressed with the skill level of the interns who devote months of time to make the programs work.
“Everyone has brought this to the highest level that a raw food center can be,” she said. “The healing that I see taking place here — the education, the motivation and the inspiration, is absolutely amazing.
Dr. Joyce said the feeling of community at CHI today is very close knit. In fact, she said, it is so close knit that she felt as if she was one-in-spirit with everyone at CHI during her five-day stay. She said she felt like that when she was the director. But she never expected to experience that level of community within a five-day stay.
“I believe at the very deepest levels of my heart that people need to know about this place,” she said.
Dr. Joyce came to the center in October 1980 after detoxing at the Hippocrates Institute in Boston with Dr. Ann Wigmore. Her health transformed quickly but when she returned to her home in the Brighton area, she needed community. So Dr. Ann put her in touch with CHI Founder Don Haughey, whose memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Creative Health Institute.
She said when she walked in the door of CHI to meet Don she was desperate for support with the raw living foods lifestyle. Back then there was no other place in Michigan to turn to for support. She could hear carpenters working in the building when she opened the door. Don had purchased it when it was a tavern and when Dr. Joyce met him he was transforming it into a raw-living-foods retreat and education center.
“There were carpenters working on completing the additions to the saloon but from what I understand Don was teaching classes anyway,” Dr. Joyce said. “Back then it was Hippocrates Midwest.”
She loved meeting Don.
“He was a quiet presence. He just had so much knowledge. He could talk for hours no matter what the subject was.”
When Dr. Joyce became the director in 1986 Don was still running his business American Woodcraft and he would visit the center every day but just once a week for meetings.
“I think he walked quietly on the earth. He was a very gentle man — very firm. He knew what needed to be done. Everybody just loved him. They had an energy exchange program through which people would come and volunteer to work in order to get through the program.”
Dr. Joyce said the CHI community was very passionate in the late 1980s when she was director. They painted the buildings themselves and did everything they could with any bit of money they had extra. A few times families with children participated in the energy exchange.
“There was always building and remodeling going on between classes,” she said. “We all felt like free spirits but it was very busy. I remember when I needed to have a break, I would take some classical music out to the room that is now the sitting room. I would just go get my hands in the dirt and I would plant for twelve hours.”
In those days they used to swim nude across the street in front of the mill. There were bushes and trees for privacy and Don wasn’t yet living in the Mill. They had the famous CHI Sunday Buffet dinners and festivals with Dr. Ann Wigmore and Viktoras Kulvinskas.
Creative Health Institute was extremely special to Dr. Ann who visited in the summers.
“It really was the only center in the country that was following her path. Nobody else was. California had changed already,” Dr. Joyce said. “She always felt special when she was here.
When Dr. Joyce first became director of CHI, the center was in a lul. There were not enough guests to keep it going. So she called Dr. Ann to see if she would help her with a marketing effort. The two of them went on tour making appearances on local radio and television stations in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
They stayed in hotels with separate rooms and Dr. Ann always ate alone by herself in her room. After finishing her own dinner, Dr. Ann prepared a meal for Dr. Joyce.
“She would have a table cloth on the floor with a plate and energy soup, dehydrated dates and bananas,” Dr. Joyce said. “We laid on her bed and watched old movies. She loved old movies.”
The times with Dr. Ann were just wonderful, she said.
“She always smelled like strawberries. She used strawberry essential oil and beet juice on her cheeks for a natural blush.”
If they were doing a cable TV show, they would bring in a tray of wheatgrass and a tray of buckwheat. Someone at one of the studios once walked up to the greens and started petting them. “Wow, it smells like strawberries,” the person said, not knowing it was the smell of Dr. Ann’s essential oils.
Dr. Ann winked and said, “Yes, it does, doesn’t it?”
“She had a light-heartedness about her. She was a really sweet soul,” Dr. Joyce said. “But a lot of people didn’t realize that she was funny.”
The fact that Creative Health Institute is keeping the simple raw-living-food traditions of the great healer alive is wonderful because so many other centers have broken from Ann Wigmore’s teachings, Dr. Joyce said.
“One woman knew and believed that we could make a consciousness shift in the world through the living food lifestyle but she took her education, her life experiences with her grandmother, her personal experiences with almost having her foot removed, her health challenges – and started this dream in Boston with Hippocrates Health Institute.”
Dr. Joyce is glad to see the degree to which Dr. Ann is respected and honored at Creative Health Institute and she hopes the Creative Health Institute Community will always keep the memory and traditions of Dr. Ann alive.
“Dr. Ann has had over 50 years of people healing with raw and living foods and the simplicity of this healing program and what it dos for our bodies and our minds and our souls,” Dr. Joyce said. “Her work worked and why change it? Why not pay tribute and recognize somebody who made such a contribution to the world.”
The medical community in the United States has been slow to recognize the benefits of Dr. Ann’s teaching but Dr. Joyce said when she visited other countries she would be met my heads of state and they put her program in hospitals.
“Creative Health Institute has taken Dr. Ann Wigmore’s work – her passion, her vision, her dream,” Dr. Joyce said. “I feel it has been brought to the highest level it could ever be brought to today in 2011. I have never seen it better and I have never seen it this good… There is no ego here.”

We feel so grateful for her amazing life, for her beautiful family and for the opportunity we have had to get to know all of them. Faye brought us so much love and joy and we are grateful for every moment we had the opportunity to spend with her. She is now gone from this world but close to our hearts and we believe God and all the angels in heaven are rejoicing in her company.
We would like to thank Faye’s family for a generous memorial gift to the center and to express our heartfelt condolences. Faye and all of her loved ones have a special place in our hearts and prayers.
One day when I just finished up working in the garden. Don & Sadie walked over to me. He asked me, “Do you love your food?” And I stared at him blankly & thought what a strange question to ask…since I never thought about it before. Then I… thought it & replied “Yes.” With a gentle smile (the kind the lights up in the eyes), he said sincerely to me, “Good. Love your food and in return, it will love you.” That moment forward, I have always made sure that I give gratitude for this healing, nourishment. Don is such a gentle, loving, selfless being, who will be dearly missed. May peace and healing reach all of those…family, friends and lucky individuals who mourn the loss of this man.
Creative Health Grieves the Loss of Its Founder

Please get a message to Hiawatha, the family, staff, and Bobby for me. I hope this will help them in their process.
Once, I touched a loose, dangling, unseen electric wire and found myself seconds later, 15 feet from the wire, on my back and paralyzed, unable to move a muscle or take a breath. The EMT personnel who arrived about 6 minutes later pronounced me dead after trying 3 times to bring me back with defibrillator shocks. I was aware of everything that was happening but could not alert them that I was still ‘in there’ because I was unable to move my fingers or blink my eyes, much less talk.
I zoomed through a tunnel and went into a space of white, and two spirits came to meet me with open arms. My lasting impression was of the most incredible joy and bliss imaginable. It was so strong, I thought I would never want to come back to this life of pain.I was so ready to embrace that light eternally.
Twas not my time, though, and someone did what is called a diaphragm press on me and as their fist sunk into my belly, just above my navel, and went up, pushing into my heart, I was forced to take a deep breath, and began breathing. Reluctantly, I came back, and although my heart stopped 3 times again in the ambulance, and I nearly died again at the hospital when the attending refused to take the saline solution out of my veins, with the help of my three sons, I survived when they kidnapped me and took me to a place called ‘Point of the Mountain’ where I was placed in mineral hot water, to recover.my heart’s rhythm.
Don is at a place of peace. He was taken to that place of no pain before the fire got to him. People should know that he never felt any pain; he felt joy. When I’ve repeated this story to people at the the hospital, in hospice or at home, they die with smiles on their faces because they know they have nothing to fear anymore. They are going home to a place where they will feel no pain, just bliss.
That was not the only time this has happened to me, so I continue to be of service, secure in my knowledge of what awaits me when God is finished with me on this earth. Don is there in bliss now, with Dr. Ann. And those of us who remain get further practice in moving from attachment to detachment.
